Chapter 73: Chapter 73
"What the fuck do you think you're doing here?”
Damien watched in amusement as Mason Connor spat, his hands clenching into fists as he glared at him.
He was giving out the exact reaction he desired, and now by yelling, he was only trying to coat his embarrassment with fury but Damien could see right through it and honestly it was simply pathetic to watch.
He wondered if Mason had learned anything from this downfall, that had befallen his family.
Had the motherfucker learnt values, lessons, morals, manners, anything at all? Damien didn’t think so, because by the looks of things, he had gained nothing.
And all Mason Connor seemed to have lost from before was the wealth his family had, but even till now his sour attitude still remained.
Damien clicked his tongue.
It was just like the Connors to feel threatened when they sensed competition, or any sign that someone was in a better position than they were, and it was also another reason why Damien would enjoy flinging them down their imaginary high horse and teaching them a lesson.
"Mason! Is everything okay? I think I heard someone knocking," A voice from the interior of the house sounded, and instantly Damien recognized the voice as that of Mrs Connor.
That woman… He would have loved to see her and even greet her.
The love he had for Madison had been transferred to her mother, and she was the only member of the Connor household apart from her daughter, that treated him like a human being.
Back then she had treated him like her own son, welcome him anytime with welcome arms, unlike her husband and sons.
Shooting him a glare, Mason poked his head back into the house for a few seconds as he yelled in reply before stepping out and shutting the door behind him, “It's nothing, mom. And there's no one at the door either!"
"Now look here, you fucker. I don't know what the hell you're thinking that you thought you could step here, or what you think you can accomplish my coming here but I want you to know one thing…”
“And what’s that huh?” Damien taunted.
“You are not welcome here. You are never welcome at all! I would have thought years of experience would have taught you never to try and cross me, but it seems you just don’t learn.” Mason added in a menacing tone, and he said his words with such seriousness that Damien couldn't help but laugh.
Even when he had nothing Mason Connor still had the nerve to act all haughty with him. So typical and highly reserved of him.
"Speaking of the past, I see there's been quite the…" Damien trailed off, making sure his eyes moved from Mason's attire to the tiny house, as he finished a small smirk forming on his face, “Development.”
Mason immediately flushed with anger but he was too dumbstruck to say anything for a while, giving Damien the ample opportunity to say all the message he had to pass across.
“The last time I saw you, you were up there on your high horse, and now?" Damien asked with a chuckle, "The almighty Connors live in a dump. What a shame."
The mockery in his voice was evident in each word, and he wanted his statement more than anything to sting and pierce into Mason’s selfish heart.
All the shame Mason was feeling and showing at this point was what fueled him, and Damien was being irreversibly unapologetic.
After all he was only giving him a taste of his own medicine.
"Fuck off.” Mason muttered under his breath, “You don't know a thing so don't act like you have everything figured out. And as for your information, we still own some properties. We're not as poor as you think. You get that?"
Damien held back a smile, wasting no time in replying, "Since you're so convinced about that, it should interest you to know that your family no longer has any properties in their name."
The haughty look on Mason's face slowly changed to one of shock, and choking out he moved closer to Damien as he asked with a stammer, "W-what the hell are you talking about? What do you mean? Or are you bluffing again…?"
Damien deliberately ignored the question, “Oh I won’t give you the benefits of the doubt. It’s up to you to find out if you’re so impatient, but if you can wait then I assume you everything will come to light in due time. Now, I came here to talk to your parents, not you. So kindly get out of my way and inform them."
"Get out!” Mason sputtered, his jaw ticking as he stared at Damien, “Now! Get out of this fucking place!”
"I came here for a reason and I'm not leaving till it's done."
Mason scoffed, raking his hand through his hair in exasperation, "You went through all the trouble of flying down to London just to come back here and stir up trouble. What the hell do you want now? What do you freaking want? To check if we are living in poverty as you must have heard? Well your assumptions are correct, now can you just leave!”
As Mason spoke out this time, Damien just couldn't hold back his anger and he half yelled, his jaw gritting, "The truth! I want the truth and nothing more."
Mason regarded him for a few seconds and then he hissed, "That's why you want to disturb our peace? For the truth? Well, there's no fucking truth, and I am definitely not letting you see my parents over nothing. You can get lost now. Do you understand! Your coming here is a waste of time I’ll say that over and over again, now can you fuck off!”
The two men sized each other for a few seconds and when Mason saw that Damien wasn’t leaving or making any attempt to do so at all, he suddenly laughed, "Oh goodness, I hope this doesn't have anything to do with Madison?” He sneered, “You're even more pathetic than I thought."
Anger made the veins in Damien's neck stand out, and just as he parted his lips to retort, Mason already continued talking, “You came here because of Madison right? And you want to know the truth huh?”
“Yes! I want to know the truth! Tell me all you know.”
At first it looked like Mason wasn’t going to say thing, but then he asked, “Speaking of truths, did you know Madison was pregnant? With your child?“
Damien scoffed. He wasn't surprised that Mason would try to bring up the stupid rumor. He already knew the truth so it wasn't going to work.
“I know she was pregnant, and I also know she cheated on me so don't try to play that card of that baby being mine, when we both know it might not be true.” He laughed, fed up with these silly tactics already.
Instead of counteracting his statement, to Damien’s surprise Mason began to chuckle.
“Oh I completely forgot about the cheating story. I'm not surprised that you fell for it though. You’ve always been so gullible and stupid. So easy to manipulate. The cheating story was all a fraud designed and planned out by me and my father. It's no wonder you were too blind to see through it, and poor Madison whom we warned about you had to go ahead and suffer for it.”
Damien felt like time had frozen.
Bewildered, he stared into Mason's eyes watching for any signs of deceit in them, but he didn’t see a trace of lie at all and instantly he felt his knees go weak.
It couldn't be true. No way was this true. He pondered, staggering backwards because Mason had to be lying about this.
But Mason's smile never left his face, and instead he continued with a roll of his eyes, "My sister didn't cheat on you. She lied about doing so because she desperately wanted to save you, and I supported her every decision you know. Who am I, after all? Plus it was a good way of getting back at you for that bullshit you pulled." His expression suddenly changed to anger.
Damien knew exactly what he was talking about.
This was the bone of the contention and malice between them. The reason why Mr Connor’s first fruit despised him so much in the first place was because he had slept with Mason's girlfriend, long before he began dating Madison.
Mason up till this moment had never forgiven him for it obviously, and now Damien could just feel his entire body going weak.
All these things couldn't be true. No! Madison, pregnant for him? He just couldn’t believe it and he said his thoughts out loud.
"I-I can't believe this. Y-you're lying. You must be lying.“ He stammered, his mind racing but why would Mason lie about it? He couldn't begin to understand.
His chest was beginning to feel constricted at this new realization.
"You fucking hurt her, you bastard! Don’t you know?” Mason's voice broke into his thoughts.
He looked up to see Mason clench his fist and swing his arm forward to strike him, but at the last minute, he stopped and putting his hand back to his side, he hissed, "Nothing is worth getting into a fight with you young man. Not even my stubborn as fuck sister Madison."
Hissing, he eyed Damien in disgust.
Shaking his head, he began to walk out of the compound, leaving Damien rooted at the spot.
Damien stood there unmoving for a few seconds, panic beginning to take over as Mason's words reverberated in his head again and again. As though lightning had struck him, he quickly turned and ran after Mason.
"If you're really telling the truth, I have to know everything. W-what happened? Was the baby really mine? I need to know! What the hell are you talking about? I know we are enemies but please…” His voice shook as he pleaded with the last strength in him.
He was already beginning to think of all the possibilities.
What if the baby really was his? It meant that he had been wrong about Madison the whole time, and it would also mean that he had treated her badly and casted her aside for something that was never her fault in the first time.
It meant that this whole time… he had put her through so much for no even tangible reason at all.
No! Damien yelled within himself, guilting eating him up and he could feel his palms begin to sweat and as he hurried after Mason, asking for more of the full story.
But as usual Mason was adamant. He may as well have been deaf because he was acting like it, and still ignoring Damien, he walked out the gates of the compound and proceeded to hail a taxi.
As he opened the car door, he turned to Damien, “I’m doing this not because of you, but because of my sister even though it’s the last thing she would have wanted. I think there are some things that you should know.”
“What do you…”
"If you really want to know the full story, we should meet up sometime. Lest I forget again, don’t you even get the wrong idea as to why I’m doing this. I'm not doing it because I give a fuck about you. I'm only doing it because I feel like.” He spat.
His condescending tone was not lost on Damien, but he was past caring about that right now.
This piece of information that Mason had just dropped, changed everything and it was more than a major impact to his life, to his plans, to the way he thought of Madison.
He felt his heart fall to his stomach as he tried to compose himself. He was slowly slipping into a cold abyss of guilt, and fear too.
Smirking, Mason whipped out a pen and piece of paper he already had in his pocket. He scribbled something on it and tossed it to the floor close to Damien's feet.
"Have it.” He said, before getting into the cab and telling the driver to get moving.
Damien stood, still confused and trying to assimilate what just happened.
He slowly bent to pick up the piece of paper which contained a phone number, and looking through it with a frown on his face, he let out a heavy sigh, his hands going to his hair.
Raking his hands through his hair, and standing in the rotten filled surrounding, Damien screamed his lungs out as he kept wondering what the heck was this all.
What was freaking happening to him? Just what?
