Chapter 128: Chapter 128

~ They were drawn to each other in ways they had never experienced. It wasn’t a coincidence but an undeniable fated connection. Because when their hearts first collided, they knew their soul was already infused together. ~

SOME MONTHS LATER

“No way…” Madison’s hand shook as she held the white pregnancy test stick in her hand, her jaw dropping as she stared at the result she was seeing.

Her hands shook heavily, and as beads of sweat flowed down her face, she began to walk away from the toilet and back to the bedroom she and Damien shared.

“This has got to be a dream.” Madison muttered to herself, a tear falling down her face as she gently placed the stick on the table and continued to stare at it, but she could not comprehend what she was seeing.

Her eyes closed; she tried to tell herself that, indeed, her eyes were playing some trick on her, so she had to close and open them again, but when she did… The pregnancy stick was still there.

Showing two positive lines, indicating that she had conceived just two months before the wedding.

“Oh my gosh….” Her voice broke, her palms going to her face as she covered her lips, stifling the sob and scream threatening to spring out from within her.

The last few days began to make more sense to her, and she could see the cause of her sickness.

The early morning fever, vomiting and loss of weight. The unnecessary fatigue and raging hormones. She’d lost her appetite for most foods and suddenly became selective, and this was because she was pregnant.

Damien had even been the one taking care of her every day. Cooking and making sure she took her drugs too, as he claimed she was suffering from some malaria, but lo and behold, it wasn’t that.

“Oh goodness…” She didn’t want to believe this, but the truth was staring right back at her.

She was pregnant! Some weeks or months gone, she had no idea, but a fetus was growing in her stomach.

After years of mourning her lost child and getting used to the knowledge that she might never hold her child in her hands anymore, the reality of her situation came crashing down upon her like a ton of bricks, and tears began to stream in torrents down her face.

Opening her eyes and trembling all over, Madison couldn’t hold herself back this time, and so she screamed…

…….

The second Damien heard that scream, the knife he was holding fell to the floor, and his eyes widened in shock. He glanced at his mother, who was standing beside him.

They were both in the kitchen making dinner, as he’d personally taken it upon himself to cook for a very sick Madison.

The last few days had been a hectic one for him, as he’d had to juggle between work and home, as well as taking care of his fiancée, who was a bit under the weather, but then he had no complaints.

Now though, hearing her scream already had his heart rate speeding up to a hundred degrees.

“What the hell was that?” He could hear his mother ask as they both began to walk out of the large kitchen to the bedroom where Madison was.

No sooner had he gotten there did he see the cause of whatever might have made her scream, and he exhaled in relief when he saw her crouched on the floor, head bent down as she stared at something in her hands.

“Madison, dear. What’s wrong?” His mother started to ask her, but Damien didn’t waste any more time; as he rushed towards her and squatted, pulling her close to him.

Not even looking down to check what she was holding, he shook her lightly, his hands palming her face, and he inquired with a raised brow, “Maddie, love. What’s the matter? Why did you scream so loud?”

Again as he asked this question, his heart started to pound heavily again.

“I… I…” She started to stutter, her eyes darting about as she sniffed continuously, but her words just didn’t come out well, and Damien let out a hiss.

“Talk to me, Maddie; what’s wrong?” He asked again, shaking her arms softly and caressing her hair gently.

“I… I…” She stammered again, but this time instead of finishing the sentence, she raised her right hand and that’s when he saw it.

A small device, or stick instead.

He looked back at her in confusion and back at the stick, and it was not until his mother gasped out loud from behind, then did it click together.

He saw the two lines, and that’s when he knew she was holding a pregnancy stick and that she was…

“I’m pregnant.” She blurted out suddenly, and now it was Damien’s turn to let out a gasp, “I just decided to check on impulse, not that I even had a scare, but now I’m pregnant. I… I…”

He’d known per se, but hearing it from her lips, felt surreal and…

“What? You’re pregnant?” He asked, his eyes lifting and chuckling amidst the tears in her eyes; she nodded enthusiastically.

“Mother… we’re pregnant.” Damien announced, his grin widening as he glanced at his mother, who was already dancing and tapping away at her feet in joy.

“So the sickness all these while… damn! We need to go to the hospital. I told you, Madison. I did tell you, but you refused, saying the…”

She didn’t let him finish, though, as she pulled his head closer and began to kiss him passionately.

Breaking her lips away from his, Damien chuckled and said, “Looks like you have so much vigor and…”

“I’m so happy, Damien. Even though I never expected this but still.”

“Seems we’ll be having our honeymoon with our baby growing in you.” Damien said again, and she chuckled.

For a minute, silence befell them as they stared at each other, obviously lost for words.

“I’m so happy, D. We have a wedding to plan and a baby on the way. This is a double blessing, don’t you think?” She asked, breaking the silence, and he just nodded.

“Fuck, Maddie. We’re doing it. Doing everything, we’d promised ourselves back then when we were young and in love. I’m getting married to you, and now this…”

“Yes, D. It feels so surreal that after all these years, we still get to experience it. I can’t wait to tell everyone this news. I’m…”

Leaning forward and placing a kiss on her lips, subtly shutting her up, Damien closed his eyes as a lone tear trickled then down his face.

When he opened them, he had a smile on his lips now, and gently he stood up carrying Madison with him and twirling her about while she giggled.

“You will make a beautiful wife and an even gorgeous mother.” He complimented, and Madison blushed irrevocably.

“Damn! I might have taken the hardest route to find you, Maddie…” He started to say again, drawing her close and kissing her cheek before continuing, “But… our paths merged when it was supposed to. Everything was worth it, despite every fallen step and tragic collision. And now… your soul has become my final destination. I love you, Madison Connor, forever and ever, and I can’t wait to build this family with you.”

“Oh, Damien…” She trailed off, wrapping her arms around him.

“How do you feel? Do you feel better? Any nausea at all? Are you feeling dizzy?” He asked suddenly, kissing her forehead too, and she laughed lightly.

“I feel great. Much better than before, surprisingly. After I saw the two lines, I felt renewed, and it’s like this little bundle inside of me is keeping us safe and sound.”

Damien grinned widely at her answer, and he couldn’t help but feel proud and happy.

This was the greatest moment of his life, being able to witness such a miracle happen to her and know that, in the end she had gotten all that she ever deserved.

He didn’t even care about himself… Just Madison Connor, soon to be Daniel.

The reminder that she would soon be his forever also gave him a sense of peace and security, and as he kissed her temple gently, he whispered in her ears, “I’m making dinner, but after that, I’ll make sure to serve you a very pleasing desert.”

“Damien…”

He heard her gasp out loud, and he could tell she was blushing even though he wasn’t looking at her.

“I’ll be gentle, I promise.” He finished, hugging her tightly and burying his face in her shoulders; he inhaled deeply, smelling the only scent that belonged to the woman he loved.

His heart fluttered, and at that moment, Damien knew he’d found his happy place.

Nothing else mattered.

Not his riches. Not his insane quench for revenge that she’d diminished. Not pride, nothing at all. Just her. She was enough for him.

Despite the odds that threatened to tear them apart, they were finally getting their happy ending or beginning rather.

Despite the hurdles that almost tore them apart. The bumpy ride. So many obstacles and trials. It took days, months and years, but what's meant to be would always be!

THE END.
