Chapter 411: Chapter 411
"Battle, battle, battle..."
"Kill, kill, kill..."
In the Jian Ge Pass region, a murderous aura was seething. The most brutal battle since the pass’s establishment was about to erupt. This battle concerned the survival of the Kylin Holy Land and even the future of the East Border.
The first contingents from the Qionghua Holy Land, Zixiao Holy Land, and the Thousand Demon Saint’s Court launched their attacks simultaneously. Spiritual light flickered as their army souls battled in all directions. To capture Jian Ge Pass, the three major powers had mobilized 300,000,000 soldiers, divided into nine armies, each comprising 30,000,000 soldiers.
"Death Flower, bloom!"
"Heavenly Thunder Army Soul, emerge!"
"Wolf Smoke Army Soul, kill!"
At the forefront, the troops of the Qionghua and Zixiao Holy Lands led the charge. They used the power of their army souls to withstand the Demon Crystal Cannon fire and arrows dispatched from atop the pass. The Thousand Demon Saint’s Court’s army followed closely behind; they intended to summon totems and thus had not set up a military formation. Amidst the gunpowder smoke-filled battlefield, the armies charged on, quickly reaching the base of the city wall.
"Prepare the fire oil!" Lin WuFeng bellowed.
Barrels of fire oil were hauled onto the city wall, ready to be poured down at any moment.
"Ancient bloodline, ancestral glory, totem power, emerge!"
The soldiers of the Thousand Demon Saint’s Court began to summon their totems. Amidst a blood-red glow, countless ancient figures appeared and started to damage the city wall, producing dull thuds.
"Pour!" Lin WuFeng, his face livid, roared.
The fire oil poured down from the ramparts, drenching the soldiers at the base of the wall. It emitted a pungent odor, sparking panic, especially among the non-human soldiers who had previously experienced such an attack and were deeply terrified. The experience of being burned by fire was too dreadful! It was truly a living hell! However, remembering their pre-battle orders, they overcame their fear. Not one retreated. They frantically damaged the city wall—a structure that had stood for countless eons—leaving deep pits of various sizes.
A flicker of worry, almost imperceptible, crossed Lin WuFeng’s eyes as he tossed a torch down towards the city base.
Upon contact with the torch, the fire oil instantly ignited. Countless fire dragons soared into the sky, rampaging wildly as if to claim the very heavens and earth as their domain. The terrifying heat distorted even the Void.
Strangely, this time, no agonizing wails were heard, nor were any soldiers seen struggling in the inferno.
"A water-element Formation is active!" The cry went up from the wall.
Lin WuFeng’s eyes glinted as he peered through the rising flames, discerning the scene within. He saw a layer of blue light covering the enemy soldiers’ bodies. Water and fire are incompatible! To repel the fire oil, a water-element Formation is undoubtedly the most effective method!
"Pass the order! Throw the Thunderstones!" Lin WuFeng quickly devised a countermeasure. He retrieved a fist-sized stone from his personal storage space. It was smooth as jade, meticulously carved with arcane patterns, and emitted a faint glow.
The Thunderstone was a formidable King-grade weapon. When activated, it could generate a cataclysmic explosion, equivalent in power to a Saint Realm Martial Artist self-destructing. It was a single-use weapon, requiring a Profound Level Artifact Refiner to forge. Even in the Kylin Holy Land, Thunderstones were rare!
Lin WuFeng infused a wisp of Spiritual Energy into the Thunderstone and hurled it down. The moment it struck the ground, it exploded violently, the immense force carving out a vacuum within the sea of flames. Thousands of soldiers were annihilated, their flesh and blood splattering everywhere; not a single corpse remained intact.
The remaining soldiers still wrecking the city wall were jolted. Before they could react, they saw numerous Thunderstones, glowing faintly, raining down upon them.
Having witnessed the terrifying power of the Thunderstone, all the soldiers turned and fled.
But they were a step too late.
A series of deafening explosions thundered, blowing countless soldiers to pieces. Flesh and blood flew everywhere. Beneath the walls of Jian Ge Pass, a trench was blasted open. Airborne gore rained down, quickly turning the trench into a channel of blood.
The few soldiers who managed to escape stared at the blood-filled trench before them, swallowing convulsively, their faces deathly pale. Recalling the explosions, they couldn’t help but shudder.
"Order the second unit to continue the attack!" Rong Zu commanded sternly from the command platform. When besieging a city, one must strike with initial fierce momentum; if that wanes, spirits fall, and if it falters further, the effort is exhausted. Read full story at novel(ꜰ)ire.net
"By the Holy Lord’s decree, attack!"
The second units of the three allied forces charged onto the battlefield, maintaining their previous formation. The forces from Qionghua Holy Land and Zixiao Holy Land endured the attacks raining from above, shielding the advancing soldiers of the Thousand Demon Saint’s Court.
RUMBLE! SWOOSH! SWOOSH! SWOOSH!
On the city wall, the Magic Crystal Cannons unleashed a ceaseless barrage. The sheer volume of shells fired caused the cannon barrels to glow red from the intense heat. Millions of archers fired continuously, their arms swelling and aching painfully from the exertion. Even so, they could not repel the charging enemy.
Leaving a field of corpses in their wake, the allied army once again neared the city walls. As they stood by the blood-filled trench, the sight of dismembered corpses soaking in the sanguine fluid made their throats tighten, and they desperately suppressed the urge to vomit. With a touch of fear, the soldiers of the Thousand Demon Saint’s Court began summoning their totems again, continuing their assault on the walls.
"Throw the Thunderstones!" Lin WuFeng ordered, then turned to an elder beside him. "Return to the Holy Land immediately! Bring all the Thunderstones from the warehouse. Also, have the elders of the Artifact Refining Peak dedicate all their efforts to forging more Thunderstones!"
"As you command!" the elder acknowledged, then turned and flew off, tearing through the air.
A fresh series of explosions erupted. Even from the thousand-zhang-high walls, one could still see severed limbs hurtling through the air.
The battlefield experienced a brief moment of tranquility. After a while, fear took root in the soldiers of the three forces. Their will to fight shattered, they turned to flee.
"By the Holy Lord’s order, deserters will be executed without mercy!"
As they retreated from the battlefield, nearing their rear camp, a general roared the command. Instantly, countless arrows sliced through the air, felling the fastest of the fleeing soldiers. They had not died on the battlefield, but at the hands of their own comrades! A bitter irony, indeed!
"Step over their corpses, or die!" the general bellowed. He stood, sword drawn, behind the bodies of the freshly executed deserters, his expression glacial, radiating killing intent.
The remaining deserters exchanged horrified glances. After a brief internal struggle, they gritted their teeth and turned back towards Jian Ge Pass. It was death either way. If they died in battle, their families would at least receive a generous pension—far better than dying as deserters.
"Third unit, engage!" Rong Zu commanded, his expression unchanged, as if the 60,000,000 who had just perished were mere ants, not living beings.
The soldiers of the third unit began their charge, treading over the carpet of corpses, advancing relentlessly on the very edge of death. This time, they quickly closed in on Jian Ge Pass.
Lin WuFeng, without hesitation, once again ordered the use of Thunderstones, killing tens of millions more.
"Great Elder, more than half of our Thunderstones are gone! We need to conserve them!" an elder in charge of weaponry hurried forward, whispering his report, fearful of being overheard. A shortage of weapons was a major taboo on the battlefield! It could easily destabilize the army’s morale!
