Chapter 75: Chapter 75

Bianca's POV

"BIANCA!"

I stood up from the bench when I saw Amelia in front of me.

I wiped away the tears on my face and looked at her. "H-he's still in the emergency room."

"Oh… my son." Amelia's tears fell when her eyes turned to the door of the emergency room.

"What happened?"

I was in the house when the hospital called me to inform me that Gideon had been in an accident.

The authorities told me that Gideon avoided a dog who was in the middle of the road, and that's why his car crashed into another car.

The owner of the other car only suffered from a minor injury… while Gideon was unconscious when he was brought to the hospital.

Amelia pulled me into her and enveloped me in her arms.

"Hush, dear. It wasn't as fatal as what happened to him before." Amelia tried to calm me down. "I'm sure he'd survive this. I'm sure he'll be safe."

I remembered what happened to him before. He was in the ICU for three months. He barely survived his accident.

"I can't lose him, Amelia…"

"We won't lose him, Bianca," Amelia had tears in her eyes, but she was calmer than me.

Another thirty minutes passed when the doctor went to us.

"Doc, how's my son?" It was Amelia who asked the doctor. She was holding my hand.

I couldn't manage to open my mouth. I was too nervous to speak. I felt like I couldn't even manage to stand if not only for Amelia who was holding my hand.

"The patient's already out of danger."

I couldn't believe those six words were enough to bring back my heartbeat.

"He was still unconscious due to a head injury he suffered from the accident. Based on his CT scan, it was nothing serious. But we'd still conduct further tests on him."

"Oh, thank God…" Amelia breathed a sigh of relief when the doctor excused himself from us.

I wiped the tears on my face and managed a smile of relief. Thank God he was safe. I didn't know what I'd do if something serious happened to him.

"Where's Darwin?" I only remembered to ask. "He's in Vegas, Bianca." She smiled at me. "He'll be going home tonight."

I examined her. I noticed she was wearing a black dress and a stiletto. But her makeup was already ruined from crying.

"I was preparing myself for a charity call I'll be attending tonight when I received your call."

I cleared my throat. "Oh… you can still attend the party. I'll stay here with Gideon."

"No, dear. I'll stay here with you. I can't attend that party knowing that my son is in the hospital." She touched her face.

"Besides, my make-up is already ruined."

"Mrs. Gideon Henry." I was alone in the hallway when the authorities came to me. Amelia went to the restroom to fix herself.

"Here are the things we found on Mr. Henry's car." The policewoman handed me a bouquet of tulips. It was already wrecked from the accident. He handed me Gideon's phone.

"Thank you, officer."

Gideon told me earlier this morning that he had two meetings this afternoon. That's why I was shocked when the hospital called me to inform me that Gideon had been in an accident.

He shouldn't be on the road at this hour.

I looked at the bouquet in my hand. Was Gideon going to surprise me?

I checked on his phone. The screen was broken but it was still functioning.

My brows furrowed when I saw an unregistered number on his call directory.

"Based on our investigation, Mrs. Henry, your husband was in the middle of the call when the accident happened."

I examined the number on the screen. Whose number is this? Why is it unregistered?

Did it belong to one of Gideon's business clients? Was Gideon going to a meeting when the accident happened?

I looked again at the bouquet beside me. But there were flowers in his car. I'm sure they were for me.

"Amelia!"

We both turned to the voice in the hallway. It was Diana. She was half-running towards us.

"How's Gideon?"

"OH! Thank God!" Diana muttered when Amelia told her that Gideon was already safe.

I looked at Diana in front of me. Her curly hair was disheveled from running. Diana turned to me as if she had only noticed my presence.

"Bianca…"

I gave her a small smile. I remembered everything she had said to me. It was obvious she was trying to ruin me and Gideon.

I don't like her… but I could see the genuine concern on her face. Besides, no matter what I do, she was Gideon's friend.

"Are you alone, Diana?" Amelia asked her.

"I'm with Charlie," Diana answered.

"Where is he?"

Diana cleared her throat. "He's still in the parking lot."

I looked at her. How did she find out that Gideon was here in the hospital? I only called Amelia. Amelia told me she didn't call anyone. She didn't even inform Darwin.

I remembered the unregistered number on Gideon's phone. Did Diana own that number? Was she the one talking to Gideon when the accident happened?

"Excuse me, I'll just answer this call." Amelia excused us when her phone rang.

I turned to Diana who was sitting on the bench. I felt something prickling my heart with the thoughts running around my head.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Diana asked.

I swallowed. My grip on Gideon's phone tightened. "How… did you find out that Gideon had an accident, Diana?" I asked, looking at her face.

I saw how the woman's lips parted. "I…"

"The officer said Gideon was on the phone with someone when the accident happened…" I could feel the corner of my eyes heat up. My voice was on edge.

"Were you that person, Diana? A-are you the owner of that unregistered number on his call history?"

Diana's mouth opened and closed. She looked hesitant… and nervous.

"Answer me, Diana," I demanded in a cold voice.

I watched her swallow hard. Then he slowly nodded. At that moment, I felt like my breath was taken away from me. Something inside of me was slowly collapsing.

"Y-you're right. I was on the phone with Gideon when the accident happened."

Why… why was Gideon talking to her on the phone? On his way home?

Gideon wasn't supposed to be home by seven. But he was on the road in the afternoon. I looked at Diana in front of me.

What if Gideon wasn't really going home? What if the meeting that he was talking about was not really a meeting at all? What if… he was just meeting with her? That's why they're on the phone together?

I glanced at the bouquet of flowers beside me. Were these flowers really for me? Or were they for… Diana?

"Bianca…"

My eyes went back to Diana. The hesitation I saw in them earlier was now gone.

"Do you want to know what Gideon and I talked about on the phone?" she asked, her eyebrows slightly raised.

I swallowed. "No need. I'll just ask Gideon himself."

"Oh. Alright." She smiled at me. "But in case Gideon lied to me, you can go to me and ask."

My lips parted. I swallowed. "And why would Gideon lie to me?"

"Because I already told you, Bianca. Gideon didn't want to hurt you. She still cares for you, after all. So he would lie…"

My jaw clenched. I wanted to erase the smile on her face. I wanted to ask her to leave.

"Are you okay, Bianca?" Amelia asked me. She was back with coffee.

I gave him a small smile. "Yeah."

A lot of things were going on in my mind. I had so many questions right now. But my heart… my heart still wanted to trust Gideon.

I looked at Diana who was sipping coffee beside Amelia.

"You can go home now, Diana. Gideon was already safe. We're just waiting for him to wake up."

"I would like to stay," she smiled. "I gave nothing to do anyway."

I took a deep breath and nodded. I tried to calm myself.

"I need to talk to Mr. Henry's immediate family."

The three of us stood up when the doctor went out of Gideon's room.

"Immediate family only, Diana." I stopped Diana.

She just raised her brow before going back to her seat.

"The patient was already awake. We checked his medical records and we found was suffering from amnesia."

I swallowed. "How is Gideon, Doc?"

"You have nothing to worry about," the doctor assured us. "The result of his brain scan told us that his brain didn't suffer from anything. His brain activity is normal."

I heaved a sigh of relief.

"He was saying something when he woke up…"

"W-what was he saying?"

"He was saying that he remembers everything now."
