Chapter 47: Chapter 47

"Well, you couldn't blame me. My wife's a stunner. I'm a lucky bastard to have her."

I felt my face heated with the way Gideon complimented me in front of these people. I was sure as hell that my neck was red as tomatoes. I hope Gideon won't look at me.

But he did. He smiled at me before excusing us from Mr. Golding.

"Are you blushing earlier?" Gideon asked while we were in front of the food. Gideon asked for truffle pasta.

"What? I'm not, Gideon!" I denied. The hell would I admit it to him!

"Really?" The corner of his lips curled in a playful smile.

"Shut up, Gideon." I rolled my eyes at him as I reached for my glass of champagne.

"Hmm…" From the corner of my eyes, I saw him staring at me.

"Quit looking at me," I said, my eyes turning into slits.

He played with the glass of champagne in his hand. "Why? Am I making you blush?"

I could feel my blood going up to my cheeks. "I told you I'm not blushing. Stop insinuating things!"

He pursed his lips. "Alright. But don't ask me to quit looking at you. I can't help it, wife." His eyes fluttered at me. It emphasized how long his eyelashes are.

"You're stunning tonight," he said before those blue eyes dropped to my lips.

I wasn't able to come up with something to say. Thank heavens someone interrupted us.

"Uncle Gideon, Aunt Bianca!"

A little kid went to our table. I remembered her. It was Macy, the daughter of Gideon's cousin, Sofía. The woman is one of the board directors of the company.

The girl looked adorable in his cute pink balloon dress.

"Hi, Macy," I smiled at the girl. "You looked beautiful."

Macy giggled at me. "You too, Aunt Bianca. And also Uncle Gideon."

We both turned to Gideon. His face was a mixture of confusion and amusement as he looked at the kid.

"Do we know this kid?" Gideon whispered to me.

I pursed my lips. "She's the daughter of your cousin, Sofia. Her name's Macy."

"Oh, Mommy told me you've got amnesia, Uncle Gideon."

We both turned to the kid who was watching us.

"Yes." Gideon cleared his throat and smiled apologetically at Macy. "So, forgive me for not remembering you."

"It's okay." Macy smiled, revealing her two crooked teeth. "I'll just introduce myself. My name's Macy. I'm six years old."

Oh. The last time I saw her, she was still five years old. I looked at her and realized that she had grown up a bit.

"My mother is Sofia, your cousin. So that makes me your niece, Uncle Gideon."

"You've got a beautiful name, Macy," Gideon complimented.

Macy grinned. "Of course, that's because I'm beautiful, too."

Gideon and I couldn't help but chuckle. Macy joined our table and asked for food.

"Do you want this one?" Gideon asked Macy as he showed the kid a platter of strawberry cupcakes he asked the waiter.

"No. This is already fine with me." Macy answered, pointing at her own plate.

"Just be careful eating, okay?" Gideon smiled, tucking Macy's stray hair behind her ear.

I watched the two of them converse with each other. Gideon looked so patient and gentle in front of the kind. I couldn't believe Gideon has a soft spot for kids.

"You know what? You're so different now, Uncle Gideon." Macy said, pursing her lips. "I'd never seen you smile before."

"Really?" Gideon cleared his throat.

"Yup. You're always like this every time I see you." Macy frowned as if trying to imitate the old Gideon. "You're so intimidating."

I pursed my lips to prevent myself from laughing. But Gideon did chuckle.

"Well," Gideon pursed his lips. "I wanted to apologize if I intimidated you before, Macy." Gideon gently caressed Macy's blonde hair. "I promise I'll be a better uncle from now on."

Macy smiled. "Thanks, Uncle Gideon."

"Hmm, where's your mother, Macy?" I asked her as I looked around the ballroom. I was worried that Sofia was already looking for her.

"She was talking to her friend when I left her," the kid answered. "I told her I'll look for grandma Amelia."

"How about your father, Macy? Is he also here?"

My head snapped to Gideon. Of course, he didn't know that Macy didn't have a father.

"I don't have a daddy, Uncle Gideon. Mom said he left her when she was pregnant with me." Macy answered in a casual voice, as if that kind of question was just normal for her.

"Oh. I'm sorry, Macy," Gideon apologized. "I shouldn't have asked that."

The kid shrugged. "It's okay. I'm used to it," she said. "Mom and I don't need him."

"Well, if ever you need a father figure at school… you can always call for me."

Macy's eyes widened. "Really, Uncle Gideon?"

"Yes, of course." Gideon smiled.

Macy pursed her lips. "Where's your baby, anyway?"

My smile faded on my lips. I turned to Gideon whose face also reflected my reaction.

"Macy…" Gideon said in a careful voice. "We lost our baby… because of the accident."

I bit my lower lip when I felt something sting my eyes. It's been months but the pain was still there.

"Y-yeah," I whispered, forcing a small smile on my lips. "I lost her…"

I felt Gideon's hand on mine. He gently pressed it. I felt like his warm hand reached my heart.

His eyes locked into mine, and I couldn't believe I was comforted.

"I'm sorry… for asking, Aunt Bianca," Macy turned to me with an apologetic face.

I gave her a gentle smile. "It's okay, Macy."

Later that night, Gideon was called to give a speech at the front.

"Good evening," Gideon said, holding the mic while standing in front of the people who attended the party.

"I just want to thank everyone here, for attending the anniversary party of the company. As you all know, this year hasn't been good for our family. My wife and I got involved in an accident. I lost all my previous memories. I want to thank our people in the company for being patient and still putting their trust in me. Dad, and all the board members. My Mom," Gideon searched for Amelia in the crowd. "Thank you… And most of all, I want to take this opportunity to thank my partner, my wife, Bianca."

Gideon's eyes locked on mine. I could feel the loud beating of my heart inside my chest.

"There she is, my lovely wife."

Gideon pointed at me, and all eyes were suddenly on me. My cheeks flushed with being the sudden center of attention.

"I thank her for taking care of me, being patient with me and most of all, for staying with me throughout this time."

"Wow. I couldn't believe Uncle Gideon could be this cheesy, Aunt Bianca." I heard Macy comment beside me.

I wanted to react but then I couldn't say anything. I felt like my brain isn't functioning right now.

"I love you. I promise to be a devoted husband to you."

"Thanks again, everyone," Gideon said, raising his glass of champagne in his hand. "I hope you enjoy the rest of the evening."
