Chapter 9: Chapter 9

They settled into a cozy corner, poring over the menu with animated discussions about their preferences.

" So, Ava, have you heard anything new about that project you're working on? " Bella asked, sipping her coffee.

Ava nodded, a spark of enthusiasm in her eyes. " Yes, we made some significant progress yesterday! I'm really excited about the direction it's taking "

" That's amazing! You've been killing it lately, " Bella praised, her genuine admiration evident in her voice.

" And you've been a fantastic support, as always " Ava replied warmly, grateful for Bella's encouragement.

Their laughter echoed through the café as they indulged in their lunch, savoring every bite of their sandwiches and sharing anecdotes about their day.

As they finished their meal, Bella glanced at the time. " Back to work, huh? "

Ava nodded, a contented smile gracing her lips. " Back to the grind. But hey, at least we had this amazing lunch break! "

Together, they made their way back to the office, their steps light and their spirits lifted by their enjoyable lunchtime escapade. Ready to tackle the rest of the day's challenges, they returned to their desks, energized and invigorated by their brief respite.

As the afternoon sunlight streamed through the office windows, signaling the end of the workday, Ava and Bella exchanged glances, simultaneously saving their progress and shutting down their computers. The day had been productive, yet the anticipation of leaving work and unwinding further excited them.

" Ready to call it a day? " Bella asked, a knowing smile on her face.

Ava nodded, her enthusiasm evident. " Definitely. It's been a good one! "

They packed their belongings, exchanging casual goodbyes with colleagues as they made their way to the exit. As they stepped out into the bustling street, Bella nudged Ava playfully.

" So, spill the beans, Ava. How's it going with that guy, Bryan, who popped up at your place? "

Ava's cheeks flushed slightly at the mention of Bryan. She grinned sheepishly at Bella, adjusting her bag over her shoulder. " Honestly, it's been on my mind since yesterday. Remember I told you he wanted to see me, yeah? "

Bella nodded eagerly " And? Did you later meet up with him? "

Ava glared at her " I told you, didn't I? "

Bella shook her head, returning Ava's glare with one of her own " No, you didn't. You only told me you were not going to meet up with him. That's all, or did you... "

" No I didn't " Ava replied nonchalantly.

Bella shook her head " Gosh Ava, you're something really "

Ava ignored her comment " If you want him, go for him " she said simply.

Bella threw her a death glare " He wants you not me, don't be dumb "

" Well, I don't want him! " Ava declared, her eyes blazing with anger.

" You do my dear friend, I know you do " Bella insisted, laughing.

She continued " I see the way your light up whenever you talk about him " And nudged Ava playfully by the arm.

Ava sighed, tired of arguing with her friend " I don't Bella, I can't risk getting hurt again "

Bella stared at Ava like she was crazy " So you won't fall in love again because of that?? "

" I don't know, honestly " Ava said sadly

Bella sighed and reached out for Ava's hands " Look at me, Ava. You'll take it one step at a time, okay? Give it a chance "

Ava stared at her friend , and for once she had a glimmer of hope that everything will be fine " Okay Bella, I'll do that. I'm not sure I'd see him again though "

" You will " Bella said firmly, sounding positive.

Ava withdrew her hands from Bella's " Okay, let's talk about something else "

Bella shook her head quickly " Not yet darling, you're yet to tell me everything that happened between you two "

Ava sighed, knowing Bella would pester her until she told her everything. So she did.

Bella's eyes widened with intrigue. " Wow, that's quite a story! Did he say anything else? Have you heard from him since? "

Ava shook her head, a mix of excitement and uncertainty in her voice. " No, nothing yet. He seemed genuine, Bella. But I can't help but wonder if it was just a fleeting moment for him "

Bella looped her arm through Ava's, offering support. " You never know, Ava. Sometimes, these unexpected encounters lead to something special. He might just need some time to reach out "

Ava nodded, grateful for Bella's optimism. " I hope so. He was kind and seemed genuinely interested. But it's hard not to overthink things "

" Of course, it is. But try not to dwell too much on it " Bella advised, steering the conversation towards lighter topics. " So, any plans for tonight? Maybe a relaxing evening to unwind? "

Ava nodded. " That sounds perfect. Maybe a good book and some takeout "

Bella chuckled. " You and your books! Alright, but don't forget to keep me updated about Bryan. I've got a good feeling about this "

As they strolled down the lively street, Ava couldn't help but feel grateful for Bella's unwavering support and positivity. The conversation shifted to lighter topics, anecdotes from work, and plans for the upcoming weekend.

As they approached their respective paths home, Ava bid Bella goodbye with a hug. " Thanks for today, Bella. I'll keep you updated, promise "

Bella grinned. " Looking forward to it! Take care, dear "

Ava waved goodbye and continued on her way, her thoughts drifting back to Bryan. She hoped Bella was right—that perhaps this unexpected encounter would lead to something meaningful. With a renewed sense of hope, she walked on, eager to see what the future held.
