Chapter 70: Chapter 70
Jayden, having knocked on Bryan's office without receiving a response, decided to open the door and walk in. However, the scene that greeted him left him momentarily stunned. Rooted to the spot, he stood still for a few minutes, grappling with the shock of what he beheld.
The atmosphere inside Bryan's office held an unexpected revelation or sight that held Jayden in place, the elements of shock and a merging into a moment of stillness. As he processed the unexpected scene before him, a myriad of thoughts and emotions swirled within, leaving Jayden suspended in a state of revelation.
There his father was, kissing a lady right in his office. Jayden didn't see the lady because her back was turned to him. And he cared less anyway. He was just shocked that his father was making out with a lady in his office. There was something about the lady that screamed familiarity though. It was obvious that they didn't hear him knock because they were too engrossed in eating each other's lips.
He coughed slightly, intending to make them notice him which they did. The lady broke the kiss and whirled around, only for his mouth to open in shock for the second time. It was Ava, his ex girlfriend.
" A... Ava?? "He whispered in total shock. She looked surprised too, but not scared. Even Bryan was surprised that they knew each other.
" What's happening here? " Bryan asked, staring at Jayden. Jayden in turn stared at Ava.
" What's happening here? " He asked, ignoring his father's question.
Ava smirked, " Why don't you take a guess? You saw what happened after all. "
Jayden turned to Bryan in question, " Say something, Dad! "
Ava frowned, ‘ Dad? ’ She asked herself. Suddenly, realization dawned on her as she saw the resemblance. Bryan was Jayden's father?? Her ex??
She stared at them in shock when reality hit the spot. She had been dating her ex's father all these while?? Holy shit, she thought. What a perfect revenge, she thought to herself sweetly.
Bryan cleared his throat, " I'm sorry you guys had to meet this way. This is Ava, my girlfriend, " Turning to Ava, he winked " Ava, meet my son, Jayden. "
" Hi Jayden, I'm Ava, your Dad's girlfriend. " She said sweetly and extended her hand for a shake.
Jayden looked horrified, " Your... Your girlfriend?? "
Bryan frowned, " Yeah. I told you I had a girlfriend, remember? "
" Sh*t " Came out of his mouth as he hit his fist on the wall in suppressed anger.
He turned to his father " She's my girlfriend, Dad " he declared.
" Ex girlfriend " Ava corrected, her nose flaring in anger.
Bryan stared at Ava in shock, " He's the douchebag you've been telling me about? "
Ava nodded, "Yeah. "
Bryan masked his surprise with a cool expression as he thought about it.
Jayden turned to his Dad, " Are you guys sleeping together?! "
" She's my girlfriend, " Bryan said coolly and shoved his hands in his pockets as if that explained everything. He met his son's gaze squarely.
Jayden glared at his father, wanting to punch the daylight out of him " She's MY girlfriend! " He shouted.
" Ex! " Bryan fired back.
" You know very well that you cannot date her! It's not right! " Jayden shouted rather immaturely.
" And why is that? " Bryan's reply was calm.
Jayden stared at him like he was crazy, " Are you really asking me that? "
" I see no man here aside the two of us, " Bryan retorted.
" Your son's girlfriend?? " Jayden asked quietly and shook his head.
" Ex! Get that into your head! " Bryan sighed, starting to get annoyed.
" So?? " Jayden shouted and with a look of disgust, he left his father's office but not without slamming the door.
Bryan, his face lined with concern, guided Ava away from the office and towards the secret exit. Ava, visibly drained and looking sick, allowed herself to be led, her thoughts still tangled in the unsettling events.
" I'm sorry you had to see this side of Jayden, " Bryan spoke in hushed tones, his voice carrying a genuine sense of regret. He instinctively placed a comforting hand on Ava's arm, a silent gesture meant to convey empathy and support. The warmth of his touch provided a brief respite to the storm of emotions that churned within Ava.
As they stepped out into the cool afternoon air, the atmosphere seemed to echo the heaviness of the situation. Bryan continued, his gaze fixed on Ava, " I'll come to your place later tonight, uh? We'll talk about this better " It was an offer of companionship and a promise to be there for her in the aftermath of the tumultuous encounter. His concern for Ava's well-being was palpable.
Ava, though visibly shaken, managed to summon a faint smile. " I've seen this side of him once, so I know," she replied, her voice carrying a blend of understanding and discomfort. It was a testament to the shared history between them and the scars that certain memories can leave.
Bryan sighed, realizing the gravity of the situation. " I'll inform my secretary to tell the head of your team that you have to leave work early, " he assured, his protective instincts taking charge. In that moment, work responsibilities took a backseat to Ava's immediate need for space and care. Bryan's commitment to ensuring her well-being shone through, a silent promise to shield her from the fallout of the distressing events they had just witnessed.
The sleek black car glided through the city streets, the hum of the engine providing a steady backdrop to Ava's contemplative silence. Seated in the back, she stared out of the tinted windows, her thoughts still echoing with the tumultuous encounter with Jayden. Dave, the seasoned driver, glanced at her through the rearview mirror, concern etched on his face.
