Chapter 46: Chapter 46
" I must say, Ava, you took my breath away. The gown really suits you, " Bryan complimented her once more, his voice sincere and filled with admiration.
Ava blushed at his heartfelt words. " All thanks to you for getting me the gown. I could have worn one of the ones I have, though, " she admitted modestly, feeling a slight tinge of self-consciousness.
Bryan shook his head gently, dismissing her notion. " No, princess, " he replied firmly but tenderly, his eyes meeting hers in the rearview mirror.
The endearing nickname sent a warm flutter through Ava's chest, and she couldn't help but smile at the affectionate term he used. She felt a sense of comfort and reassurance in his presence.
Bryan continued driving, engaging in light conversation, making Ava feel at ease. As they ventured toward their destination, a serene ambiance filled the car, punctuated by the subtle exchange of heartfelt words and gentle gestures, setting the tone for a promising evening ahead.
As Bryan's sleek car approached the Italian restaurant, Ava couldn't help but admire the quaint ambiance. The soft glow of the restaurant's lights cast a warm hue on the charming exterior. Bryan parked the car gracefully and swiftly made his way to her side, opening the car door with his characteristic gentlemanly demeanor.
" Thank you, " Ava smiled, accepting Bryan's hand as she stepped out of the car, feeling a rush of gratitude for his thoughtfulness.
The short walk to the restaurant entrance seemed surreal to Ava. As they entered, she noticed how heads turned almost instinctively in Bryan's direction. It was evident that he was accustomed to this attention, given his influential stature. However, the scrutiny made Ava feel a tad uncomfortable; it was a situation she wasn't accustomed to.
Sensing her unease, Bryan noticed the slight change in Ava's demeanor. With a reassuring glance, he gently squeezed her hand and leaned in, offering words of comfort. " It's okay, sweetheart. Just keep your head up. "
His words were soothing, and Ava felt a sense of reassurance wash over her. Straightening her posture, she met Bryan's gaze, feeling a newfound resolve to face the curious stares head-on, bolstered by Bryan's comforting presence by her side.
Despite the initial discomfort, Ava took a deep breath and followed Bryan's lead as they navigated through the restaurant. The ambiance was inviting, with the soft strains of Italian music filling the air, and the aroma of deliciously prepared dishes tantalizing her senses.
As they walked further into the restaurant, the attention from other diners was palpable. Ava felt the weight of curious gazes lingering on them, but Bryan's calm and collected demeanor served as a source of strength. His assurance provided a subtle comfort, allowing her to gradually ease into the spotlight beside him.
Bryan guided her to a beautifully set table in a secluded corner, ensuring their privacy amid the watchful eyes. Pulling out her chair with practiced ease, he gestured for her to take a seat. As Ava settled in, she couldn't help but admire Bryan's effortless grace and the air of authority that surrounded him.
With a subtle nod of appreciation, Bryan took his seat opposite her, his presence exuding confidence and poise. Despite the attention they drew, he remained composed, engaging Ava in light conversation that gradually eased her nerves.
The server approached with a warm smile, presenting the menu and describing the evening's specials. Bryan courteously guided Ava through the menu, offering suggestions and recommendations, ensuring she felt comfortable and at ease with the selections.
As they delved into conversation and the delectable dishes, Ava found herself gradually relaxing in Bryan's company. His thoughtful gestures and reassuring presence helped her to navigate the initial discomfort, allowing her to immerse herself in the delightful evening that lay ahead.
Minutes later, feeling the need for a moment of respite, Ava gracefully excused herself from the table and made her way towards the restroom. Stepping inside, she was greeted by the elegant ambiance of the lavishly decorated restroom.
As Ava adjusted her lipstick in front of the mirror, she noticed a middle-aged woman nearby who exuded an air of sophistication and timeless beauty. With a warm smile, Ava greeted her.
" Hi, " Ava offered, the brief exchange of pleasantries welcoming.
Returning the warm gesture, the woman responded kindly, acknowledging Ava's presence with a nod of acknowledgment.
Intent on refreshing her makeup, Ava focused on reapplying her lipstick. The woman, seemingly intrigued, couldn't resist striking up a conversation.
" Is he your husband? " the woman inquired, her curiosity evident in her tone as she gestured subtly towards the restaurant area where Ava had been dining.
Ava was momentarily taken aback by the unexpected question, a faint look of confusion crossing her features before she realized to whom the woman was referring.
" Bryan? No, " Ava chuckled softly, a blush coloring her cheeks at the assumption.
" You must be special for him to have brought you here " The woman said thoughtfully.
Ava blushed again and seemed to remember something " Since you know who he is, why did you ask if we were married? ”
The woman chuckled " Yeah, Bryan Hayes is quite popular but if he decides to keep some information from the public, not even reporters can dig it up ”
“ Oh “ Ava said, not knowing what else to say.
“ He’s a good man, didn’t remarry after his wife died and it’s been over 20 years. ” The woman sighed
Ava nodded, not sure why the woman was telling her all of that.
The woman offered a gentle smile. " You look good together, " she murmured, her words reflecting an observational yet approving tone.
Ava's blush deepened at the unexpected compliment, her heart fluttering slightly at the notion. Grateful for the woman's kindness, she responded with a shy smile before excusing herself politely, feeling a mix of surprise and flattery from the encounter.
