Chapter 11: Chapter 11
Resuming her walk, Ava navigated the streets with a renewed sense of purpose. The night had a way of offering clarity amidst the quietude, and she found herself contemplating the possibilities, embracing the uncertainty that lay ahead.
With each step, she embraced the idea that perhaps their paths would intersect again. The thought brought a faint spark of hope, urging her to embrace the present and the unforeseen adventures that awaited her.
As she made her way back to her apartment, Ava felt a sense of calmness wash over her. The late-night walk had granted her a moment of introspection, offering a gentle reminder that sometimes, the best moments in life are unexpected and undefined.
As she stepped through her door, the quiet hum of her apartment welcomed her back. Ava took a deep breath, feeling a sense of contentment settle within her. She glanced at her phone, half-expecting a message, but found none.
" Maybe another time, " she murmured to herself, feeling a sense of tranquility as she settled in for the night, the memories of the late-night walk weaving a sense of peace around her.

Ava lounged on the couch, absorbed in the latest novel she’d picked up from the bookstore. The afternoon sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow in the room. Her phone vibrated on the coffee table, disrupting her peaceful reading session. With a sigh, she glanced at the screen, and her expression soured at the sight of Jayden’s name flashing across it.
She hissed softly under her breath, a mix of annoyance and reluctance. Why was he calling her after a year and what did he want? She asked herself. Their breakup had been messy, emotions still lingering in the aftermath. She never wanted to set her eyes on him after what he did. Ignoring the call, she placed the phone face down and returned to her book, determined not to let it ruin her day.
Deciding it was time for a change of scenery, Ava sprang to her feet, tucking the book under her arm. She adjusted her casual outfit and headed out the door, aiming for Bella’s place a few blocks away. Bella, her vivacious and ever optimistic friend, always had a way of lifting her spirits.
A gentle knock on Bella’s door announced Ava's arrival, met with an enthusiastic welcome from her friend. " Ava! You're here! " Bella greeted, her grin infectious.
" Hey, Bella! How's your day been? " Ava replied, returning the smile.
" Amazing! I've got a whole bunch of new board games we can try out today. I even made some delicious snacks, " Bella exclaimed, leading the way into her cozy living room.
As the afternoon unfolded, laughter filled the air as Ava and Bella dived into different board games. Snippets of lively banter and playful teasing echoed throughout the room. For a moment, Ava forgot about Jayden's call, her mind fully engrossed in the present moment with her dear friend.
" Has your guy called yet? " Bella asked suddenly, smiling mischievously.
Ava looked lost for a minute " Sorry? "
" Bryan " Bella said impatiently.
Ava's eyes widened in realization " Oh. No he didn't, why? "
" No reason, just asking " Bella answered and her face fell in disappointment.
" Well, let's not talk about him " Ava said, rolling her eyes.
Bella raised her hands in surrender " Okay okay "
Ava suddenly remembered Jayden's call and she casually mentioned it to Bella.
" That reminds me, Jayden called " She started.
Bella's smiled faded instantly " What for? "
Ava shrugged " Don't know, I didn't pick "
Bella smiled in approval " That's my girl, I like that "
Ava smiled but it was a sad one as she stared into space " He hurt me, Bella "
Bella placed a comforting hand on Ava's shoulder " I know dear, I do "
She added " Cheer up, hmm? He can't hurt you anymore. After all, you've gotten over him, right? "
Ava nodded and in a blink of an eye, she did as Bella asked and the room became lively once more.
As Ava and Bella continued their afternoon together, Ava couldn't shake off the feeling of unease about Jayden's call. Despite Bella's attempts to shift the conversation, Ava found herself drawn back to the unresolved issue.
Ava muttered " I just can't understand why he would call after everything "
Bella shrugged " Maybe he's realized his mistake? Or he wants to apologize " She suggested
Ava shook her head, unconvinced " I doubt it "
Bella sighed, her expression softening as she empathized with Ava's conflicted emotions.
Bella: " I get it, Ava. It's tough. But you're doing the right thing by not picking up "
Ava nodded, grateful for Bella's understanding.
The friends shifted their focus to lighter topics, trying to enjoy the remainder of their time together. Yet, Ava couldn't help but feel the weight of Jayden's call lingering in the air, leaving her with a mix of curiosity and apprehension
Hours flew by in a blur of fun and camaraderie. Their competitive spirits kept the games going, each victory celebrated with joyous cheers and good-natured taunts. Amidst the excitement, Ava found herself immersed in the warmth of friendship, the worries of the outside world fading into the background.
As the sun began its descent, casting a golden hue across the room, Bella glanced at Ava, her eyes twinkling with contentment. " Today was so much fun! I'm glad you came over, Ava "
Ava returned the smile, a genuine sense of happiness enveloping her. " Me too, Bella. Thanks for being the best distraction "
With a final round of laughter, they tidied up the board games, their bond strengthened by the simple pleasure of spending quality time together. As Ava bid Bella goodbye and stepped out into the cooling evening, she felt a sense of renewal, grateful for the afternoon that had lifted her spirits and rekindled her appreciation for cherished friendships.
