Extreme Almightiest Young Master Chapter 72

Leng Mei received a call from Ding Wan’er in the morning, insisting she accompany her to a banquet. Leng Mei was accustomed to playing the role of a protector, and since she had nothing else going on that evening, she agreed.

After work in the afternoon, Leng Mei went straight to Ding Wan’er’s office to meet up. On one hand, it was a chance for the two sisters to catch up, and on the other hand, it made heading out together more convenient.

"Sister Leng, it seems like there have been fewer banquets lately?" Leng Mei sat down and thought about this. It had been nearly a month since she last accompanied Wan’er to one. There used to be at least one every week.

"No, Sister Leng, not at all, I’ve turned down many," Ding Wan’er replied naturally, though inside she felt uneasy. It seemed that ever since Lin Feng arrived, she really did attend fewer banquets. Partly due to Li Wenkai and partly because she genuinely declined many invitations.

"I’ve been so busy lately, I haven’t had time to come see you." Leng Mei checked her watch, saw that there was still time, and started chatting with Ding Wan’er.

"Same here, I’ve been so busy I forget everything, running around like a headless chicken." Ding Wan’er was delighted to see Leng Mei and happily chatted with her.

...

Before they knew it, it was almost time. They changed into their evening attire and walked out arm in arm.

As they were about to get to Ding Wan’er’s car, Leng Mei instinctively headed for the driver’s seat but was stopped by Ding Wan’er, prompting Leng Mei to ask in confusion, "Why are you pulling me?"

"Today we have a driver, so let’s both sit in the back and talk," Ding Wan’er said as she guided Leng Mei to the back seat.

Leng Mei was momentarily taken aback, not quite understanding what was going on. Girl Ding had always been against using servants and drivers; what changed now that there was a driver? But when Leng Mei got into the car and saw Lin Feng in the driver’s seat, she was stunned.

Lin Feng, it was actually Lin Feng.

How was he here, and driving for Wan’er no less, acting as her chauffeur? What was going on?

Leng Mei was incredibly surprised because she never would have guessed that Lin Feng could be Ding Wan’er’s driver.

"Girl Ding, why is Lin Feng your driver?" Leng Mei couldn’t understand why it was Lin Feng, of all people, as he seemed to have no close connection with Ding Wan’er. When had Lin Feng become Wan’er’s driver?

As soon as she remembered, Ding Wan’er was immediately reminded of Lin Feng presenting his letter of introduction, her heartbeat unconsciously accelerating, but fortunately, her expression remained calm. Of course, she couldn’t talk about this.

"Sister Leng, do you remember that time when you arranged for Lin Feng to attend the banquet with me in your place?" Unable to mention that night, Ding Wan’er brought up the past event instead.

"Of course, I remember. That day my grandpa asked me to come home, and I introduced Lin Feng to you. Why bring it up?"

"The day after we attended that banquet, Li Wenkai was pestering me, and Lin Feng ended up smashing up his car," said Ding Wan’er. She didn’t consider this a lie because it was after that incident Lin Feng became her driver.

It was also after that incident that they began to get in contact with each other.

"A car crash?" Leng Mei became worried upon hearing this and couldn’t help but question further, yet she was incredibly puzzled—a car crash? Lin Feng had the audacity to ram into Li Wenkai’s car?

"Yep!" Ding Wan’er remembered the incident with a sense of satisfaction and vindication, nodding vigorously as she spoke, "My car went in for repairs, and in the meantime, Lin Feng bought a car to drive me to and from work, morning and evening. It’s as simple as that."

"This car was bought by Lin Feng?" Leng Mei was even more surprised, her astonishment growing. When did Lin Feng become so wealthy? This was no mere cheap car that one could just buy on a whim.

"No, no," Ding Wan’er shook her head again.

"So which is it? You’re confusing me," Leng Mei said, finding the conversation odd. Today, Wan’er was talking in a puzzling way.

"Not this one. The one Lin Feng bought isn’t this car. This one is still mine, but two days ago when I went to pick up my car, Li Wenkai caused trouble again, and Lin Feng rammed his car once more. So I got my car back, and his went into the shop again," Ding Wan’er explained while reminiscing about the past events. Unconsciously glancing at Lin Feng, who was intently driving, she felt an unusual warmth in her heart. Having Lin Feng around felt genuinely good; she felt secure and at peace when with him, free from any worries.

Hearing Ding Wan’er’s story, Leng Mei grew even more amazed.

Crashing cars, then crashing again? Were they playing bumper cars?

Crashing cars was no joke, but from Ding Wan’er’s demeanor, it seemed like nothing serious. She couldn’t help but glance at Lin Feng, who was quietly focused on driving in the front.

Looking at him, Leng Mei’s impression in her heart was that Lin Feng was usually a very stable person. What on earth could have happened that would make him do something so outrageous?

"Girl Ding, do you have any injuries?" Leng Mei clutched Ding Wan’er’s hand, her worry prompting her to start asking.

"Not a single injury. Lin Feng is a very good driver. Although the car was wrecked, neither of us sustained even a tiny scratch. You don’t need to worry, Sister Leng," said Ding Wan’er, feeling warmed by how much Sister Leng cared for her.

After hearing Ding Wan’er’s words, Leng Mei was able to let go of the anxiety she had been harboring. Even though she understood how Lin Feng had become Ding Wan’er’s driver, in Leng Mei’s opinion, all of it seemed like an excuse. She knew Ding Wan’er too well; in the past, Ding Wan’er wouldn’t even agree to have a man in her car, let alone have a male driver. Why make an exception for Lin Feng? Could there be something more between Girl Ding and Lin Feng?

She scrutinized Ding Wan’er carefully, recalling past incidents, when she suddenly realized that Wan’er seemed to have changed a lot since Lin Feng’s arrival—especially her attitude towards him. Was this really the Ding Wan’er she knew? Perhaps Ding Wan’er’s heart had been moved by Lin Feng...

At this thought, Leng Mei was surprised to discover a slight sourness in her own heart for reasons she could not explain...

Feeling that Leng Mei’s gaze held a different meaning, Ding Wan’er, with her astuteness, immediately knew what Leng Mei was thinking. She hugged Leng Mei’s hand tightly and whispered in her ear, "Sister Leng, it’s not what you think. There’s nothing between us."

"Actually, it really could be something," Leng Mei suddenly recalled a phrase that had been popular a few years back and said it indifferently, sensing that Ding Wan’er might indeed have feelings for Lin Feng and casually encouraging her.

"Sister Leng..." Ding Wan’er was at a loss for words. She couldn’t explain any further; to do so would only make her less credible. But looking at Lin Feng ahead, a question suddenly sprang to her mind: if she were to actually be with Lin Feng, it didn’t seem like such an unacceptable idea.

Feeling Ding Wan’er’s apparent shyness, Leng Mei didn’t continue either. She let Wan’er cling to her arm and closed her eyes to rest, though her own mind couldn’t stop churning with thoughts of how close Lin Feng had gotten to Ding Wan’er...

Their conversation was overheard by Lin Feng, who was sitting in front—every single word, clear and distinct. However, Lin Feng pretended as if nothing had happened. The women’s whispers were not his to interrupt.

Although the conversation was centered around him, it didn’t really matter to Lin Feng.

Soon enough, the car came to a smooth halt—the venue for the banquet had arrived.

"Are you really not going to join us inside?" Ding Wan’er asked, although Lin Feng had already said he wouldn’t be going in. She felt that it was inappropriate to leave him waiting in the car.

Ding Wan’er thought it seemed somewhat improper, so she asked Lin Feng once again because, in her eyes, Lin Feng was clearly not just an ordinary driver.

"Don’t worry about me, go ahead. I don’t enjoy those types of events," said Lin Feng, closing his eyes and sitting there. Waiting for so long might bore others, but for Lin Feng, who had a strong inner world, it was hardly an issue—he could always find ways to stay fulfilled.

"Then we’ll go in first." Seeing Lin Feng like this, Ding Wan’er decided not to insist. She took Leng Mei, and the two women walked into the venue together.

It was the same people, the same insincerity, Ding Wan’er still the center of attention, and Leng Mei still helping her fend off various pests—everything seemed unchanged...

"Girl Ding, have you noticed Li Wenkai and his group seem to be avoiding us? They used to crowd around us, but what’s going on today?" Leng Mei found it odd to see Li Wenkai and his gang keeping their distance, not even glancing their way. Had these young masters turned over a new leaf?

"I have no idea, but isn’t it nice to not be disturbed?" Although Ding Wan’er didn’t know the reason either, she was quite pleased with a life uninterrupted by Li Wenkai.

"That’s true." Conceded by Ding Wan’er’s point, Leng Mei agreed and didn’t comment further, instead joining Wan’er in circulating the venue.

After greeting everyone they knew and chatting for a while, then sitting for a short period, Ding Wan’er and Leng Mei left the venue like they had completed a task, releasing a sigh of relief and happily getting into the car.

"So boring," Leng Mei remarked, feeling that staying by herself for a while would have been better.

"If I weren’t the principal, I wouldn’t go either," Ding Wan’er said, also finding it boring and feeling tired from socializing with a crowd.

Lin Feng said nothing and simply started the car, driving out of the parking lot.

"Lin Feng, drop me off first, then take Sister Leng home," Ding Wan’er thought about the location of Leng Mei’s house and planned the route home.

"Okay," Lin Feng responded simply, not speaking another word, quietly driving on. Before long, they reached Ding Wan’er’s home. After seeing her inside, he returned to the car and continued on to take Leng Mei home.

"17 Qing Shui Road," Leng Mei gave the address and fell silent, finding the small confined space with Lin Feng somewhat awkward.

At least, it hadn’t been before, and now she couldn’t help but think about Lin Feng and Ding Wan’er...
