Chapter 778: Chapter 778

"Congratulations, Commander. Now you’re a Captain, one of the top-ranked officers within the No. 66 Asteroid."

Du You waved a hand dismissively, "Thanks. You must have got a promotion as well."

"Not at all, I’m still a Staff Sergeant. No longer a liaison officer, but a combat personnel with actual powers - your right hand." Sera stated with a smile. Now, she was no longer just a peripheral figure.

However, looking at Du You, Sera hid a trace of resentment in her eyes.

Du You was clearly not indifferent to women, but all her subtle hints were to no avail. Granted, those two girls were pretty, but did they have her figure or were they as attractive?

When they were not busy, they all stayed together at night, but she was always excluded.

Seemingly sensing something, the two sisters walked up, each grasping one of Du You’s arms.

"Master, we’re now Staff Sergeants too. Although we’re just combatants without specific roles, being superpowered gives us a half-level advancement above those with defined roles."

The sisters gestured towards Sera symbolizing they outranked her, and Du You chuckled. These two naughty girls, there was no point competing with Sera, who he had no interest in.

But Du You’s eyes lit up, "So, you’ve got a promotion as well. Congratulations."

Suddenly, Du You thought of something and asked, "What’s our new assignment?"

Sera shook her head, "No new missions for now. We’ve been allowed to act freely, aiding in the defense of our newly established base. I think new orders will be issued soon."

Just then, a frantic messenger came running - one of their own.

"What’s all the panic about? Just say it straight." Seeing this, Sera immediately became serious.

The messenger took a deep breath, and nervously reported, "Something’s gone wrong. We seem to be targeted."

"What happened? Tell us everything." Du You’s eyes flashed with anticipation.

As the messenger unfolded the story, everyone understood. They had just finished tallying their remaining Flying Soldiers and warplanes, planning for a refill of ammunition and energy, only to be told that there were many troops replenishing in the queue ahead of them.

That was a joke. These troops had just arrived, and the fight hadn’t lasted long. Did they need to replenish already?

Moreover, their Assault Tanks had been temporarily seized, allegedly for aiding in base defense, with no indication of when they would be returned.

"The most infuriating part is, despite the top command issuing an order to increase our command strength, they told us there were no available forces for us. They wouldn’t even replenish us."

Sera was filled with rage, "Those damn bastards, can’t believe they’re targeting us."

"Why is this happening? As far as I remember, we don’t know them personally. Why are they targeting us?" Du You was puzzled.

Sera explained, "From what we’ve gathered, somebody from higher up is trying to overshadow you, Commander Du, to pave the way for the big shots’ sons. I just didn’t expect them to try to limit us . Without our military forces, what kind of power can we exert?"

So, they wanted to cripple Du You, so long as he couldn’t continue making contributions over time, his newly established reputation would fade. At that point, they could do whatever they liked.

Although Du You didn’t care much about reputation and profit, anything obstructing the progress of his mission was intolerable. He wasn’t going to let anyone mess with him.

"These bastards, I’m going to sue them in a military court!" Lin Yushi yelled indignantly.

"They aren’t afraid at all. Even if you decide to sue, the process will take a long time. By then, their back-up people will have put us in our place," Sera said with a grim expression.

Although Sera didn’t have much influence, she was well-aware of these tricks due to her mediocre power behind her.

"So, what do we do? Do we just sit around and wait for them to target us?"

Du You shook his head, "Of course not. If they don’t want us to come forward, there likely isn’t any specific work for us to do in this ’cooperation’. So, we’re completely free for now."

"Captain, do you have a plan?" Sera asked, lowering her voice.

Lowering his voice as well, Du You replied, "We’ll let the others go along with it, and act as they expect us to. As for us, we’re fewer in number, and thus a smaller target. Don’t forget, our speciality isn’t just command, it involves our personal strengths."

Sera rolled her eyes. It was their strengths she was talking about; she was just an ordinary person, unmodified. Her skills with the aircraft were remarkable, but her own strength was negligible.

"I’ve heard you’re pretty good with information technology. Can you disrupt those surveillance devices, letting us secretly infiltrate the enemy ranks? My target is this place; so long as we complete this task, our merits will shine the brightest. After that, there would be no way for them to suppress us, no matter what they try."

Du You pointed at a spot on the map. Seeing this location, Sera almost gasped in surprise.

"Commander, you’re pretty crazy. But I like it, don’t worry, I’ll make sure they don’t discover us," Sera assured, a sparkle of excitement in her eyes. This secretive mission gave her a tantalizing thrill.

"Good, if you’re confident that’s all that matters. Let’s go back and make arrangements; best if our subordinates don’t find out."

Fortunately, they had fewer subordinates, only five at the moment. Despite the nominal increase granting them fifty men, there currently were none. Furthermore, the base commander probably wouldn’t assign any men to them. It was just the perfect time to act stealthily.

That same night, they silently left the unfinished base. If it was a finished base, escaping wouldn’t be easy. But austere conditions left gaping holes in their surveillance systems.

Very familiar with all of this, Sera effortlessly found a gap, leading them out. Everyone except Sera had the power to fly, so she followed closely behind in a small aircraft.

Sera envied Du You and the others for their complex and versatile abilities. Unfortunately, superpowers were often a matter of talent; one either had them, or didn’t. For more chapters visıt 𝔫𝔬𝔳𝔢𝔩⚫𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢⚫𝔫𝔢𝔱
