Chapter 710: Chapter 710
Since they hadn’t yet accelerated for space travel, the exterior windows weren’t closed, and the special systems hadn’t been activated. Therefore, they could still see outside through the windows.
Off in the distance, a large swarm of black specks approached. Gradually, Du You realized what they were.
They were strange creatures, with bodies akin to Dragon Beasts, but the heads of birds. Their bodies were gray, traced with lines of blood red, radiating a fierce aura.
"Those are Beak Dragons, damn it, why are they here? These creatures are at least tier four!"
The members in various cabins began to shout in agitation, but currently in mid-air there was no place to land. Du You’s face fell too. He had never encountered Beak Dragons before, but he had certainly heard of them.
Beak Dragons were notorious as the most dangerous creatures in the sky. When they flew in groups, they would attack anything they saw. These creatures were fast, fearless and fought with insane ferocity.
Over 30% of the crashes involving airborne vehicles were caused by Beak Dragons.
With their current speed and being thousands of kilometers up in the sky, if they were to fall, hardly anyone would survive the crash. Even if Du You could fly, he wasn’t certain that he would be able to escape unscathed from a mid-air encounter with Beak Dragons.
Most importantly, they were uncertain of their current position, and it would take a lot of time to locate the aircraft and return to the Capital. If the aircraft exploded, the blast would be disastrous. Du You was actually considering whether to rip a hole and escape, if the aircraft’s defense was low.
The captain of the aircraft spotted these unwelcome arrivals, and his face darkened.
"Why are we so unlucky to encounter these beasts? Activate the attack system, bring them down."
"Do you want to activate the attack system? If we use it, these last two flights will be all for naught, we wouldn’t earn a thing."
The aircraft wasn’t operated by a unified organization of the alliance, but instead rented out to organizations or individuals who then bore all the costs. This one was evidently rented by individuals.
"We can’t just leave it be, if we let these creatures attack our aircraft, our losses would be even greater. We haven’t even accelerated yet, we can’t get away from these Beak Dragons."
After a few seconds of discussion, they decided to attack. Of course, they weren’t entirely sure about their decision, but not attacking could potentially lead to the destruction of the aircraft. Missions can always be repeated, but life cannot.
The aircraft began to shift, small doors on the sides opened and metal rods emerged, aimed at the fast-approaching Beak Dragons.
"We’re within range, prepare to attack. Fire!" Fresh chapters posted on 𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓵•𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑒•𝙣𝙚𝙩
The metal rods gathered massive power. From outside, one could see the runes engraved on these rods light up. This wasn’t solely a product of technology, but one enhanced by runes.
In an instant, green beams of light fired directly towards the Beak Dragons. Despite doing their best to evade, the speed of the beams was too fast, and the first Beak Dragon immediately got its head pierced and fell, crying out in pain.
One by one, the remaining Beak Dragons behind it got hit and fell. But the Beak Dragons scattered instead of retreating and, even picked up speed rushing towards the aircraft.
The aircraft had no choice but to distribute its attack. However, due to the evasion of the targets, its precision lacked. Several turrets often had to fire simultaneously in order to hit a single target. Even so, the Beak Dragons were no match.
"Our aircraft can actually attack? I hadn’t noticed before."
Lin Yucha nodded, "Yeah, it’s unexpected. Other aircraft aren’t this powerful. Look at the color, they probably use green Crystal Coins to charge it. This attack must have used up quite a lot."
Lin Yushi chimed in, "I don’t know whether it used a lot or not, all I know is the effect of this attack is really powerful. The penetrative power must be as strong as a tier four magic attack, right?"
"It should be. But it’s definitely surpassed a tier three attack."
Du You calculated carefully and concluded that each of those attacks was stronger than Lin Yucha’s Spiral Snipe by a significant margin. This was both in terms of potency and range. However, in terms of speed it was far from Spiral Snipe’s league.
The power of technology truly shouldn’t be underestimated. Du You had annihilated two unit troops before, and it was hard not to get cocky after such a feat. But considering the situation now, he still had a lot to learn.
Technology becomes less effective as it approaches its later stages when compared to powerful skills. But he was far from those exceptional skill-based experts. Du You was only a tier three Professional, where there were plenty in the academy, including several older ones, so was still not at a level to get carried away.
The eruption of the attack outside lasted for only a few seconds, no more.
All of the Beak Dragons were shot down with not a single one escaping. Or rather, they didn’t stand a chance to escape, they were ruthlessly brought down.
"Notify the spaceport and nearby cities to calculate the compensation due. Also, the insurance company should pay the compensation; we have recorded the entire incident as evidence. Let’s quickly speed up, we can’t waste any more time."
Though the compensation might not be much, any little bit would be worth it.
The aircraft accelerated towards space, closing the windows while having heated discussions inside.
Many cabins had switched on their communications, talking fervently with individuals in other cabins about the encounter. Experiencing danger mid-flight and seeing aircraft attack incidents was not common; it was certainly a narrative worth sharing.
They were even convinced that tomorrow’s newspaper headlines would definitely be about this.
Once the aircraft entered space, these dangers essentially disappeared. The rest of the journey was safe and uneventful until they landed at the Capital Spaceport.
"Finally, we are back. Let’s head home first and see how things are." Du You had spent a lengthy amount of time in this world’s Capital, thus he was far more familiar with it than his original home.
