Chapter 71: Chapter 71
It is safest to use the World Boat in formal occasions, that’s common knowledge.
Using a single World Boat, the world around Du You turns black. Once the landscape returns, Du You is already in a different world. Densely clustered trees surround him along with crisscrossing streets.
People hustle and bustle around him as he stands in front of a gigantic building. Although it resembles a tower, it is unusually broad and flat, only three stories high but impeccably decorated.
World: Mage Trial World
Career Change Mission: Perform a career change (Mage)
This world lacks a main mission and can be exited at any time.
Upon viewing the introduction on the panel, Du You understands that this world is possibly another fully controlled one. Otherwise, such special circumstances defying the norm of the Derived World wouldn’t occur.
But this world is originally a place where guilds facilitate career changes.
Inside the panel, Du You detects an invitation letter, an object that has popped up unexpectedly.
With prior knowledge before entering, Du You pulls out the invitation letter and heads towards the building in front.
"What do you want? Don’t linger in front of the Guild of Careers," two creatures block Du You just as he approaches. These magical puppets look like statues which initially fooled Du You.
With the invitation letter in his hand, the eyes of both puppets shimmer with red light and then step aside.
"Please enter," another voice arises from within the puppet, but it isn’t the puppet’s voice.
Du You nods and without saying much, enters the building. The interior is quaint and natural, looking like it’s been in use for a long time.
"An up-and-coming star with an invitation card, welcome to the mage team. But first, we must test to prove your qualifications," an elder all wrapped up in a cloak slowly approaches. In his hand, is an ancient crystal ball.
Du You frowns but steps forward and places his hand on the crystal ball. Instantly, a blinding white light is released, leaving the elder with a stunned face.
"Great, I didn’t expect to encounter such a talented being. Quite splendid. Perhaps before long, we will have another powerful mage in our guild. Come, follow me."
The elder leads Du You to a series of large magic arrays at the back. All these materials are gleaming in a myriad of colors, none of which Du You recognizes.
"Now, choose a career direction. I will then send you to the corresponding Heritage Land. There, you will undergo trials. Should you succeed, you will become a real spellcaster. Failure, however, bears dire consequences."
Without any hesitation, Du You says, "I choose to be a spellcaster. Do you know which one it is?"
"A spellcaster? Why did you choose that? It’s rare for anyone to choose spellcaster these days. It used to be a glorious profession, but it demands high comprehension. Without it, you may find little prospect for advancing in a spellcaster career," the elder surprisingly rambles on. Fresh chapters posted on 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡⚑𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚⚑𝙣𝙚𝙩
He never paid attention to what others chose.
But Du You’s exceptional talent, which even impresses the elder, makes him reluctant to see Du You make the wrong choices. Unfortunately, choice is crucial for a spellcaster, and it can’t be interfered with by others.
With a serious expression, Du You says, "I have determined to become a spellcaster. It’s my initial chosen path."
"Alright, since you insist, let’s proceed. This is it." The elder points to a magic array next to him.
"Just step on it. I will handle everything else."
Upon hearing this, Du You steps onto the magic array as the elder requests. The elder operates it, activating the array. Du You’s figure instantly vanishes. This time, it is not transformed into spirit energy particles but a space teleportation.
A familiar shine flickers in front of him, and Du You finds himself in another place. It seems like a gigantic lab, but in front of him is a large stone tablet covered in intricate patterns. These patterns seem like a child’s scribble, but when looked closely, they have an arcane feel to them.
Career Change Mission: Spellcaster, Phase 1, Generate your first spell within the shortest time.
Du You is taken aback, not expecting such a mission. If it were a local, they must have learnt a great deal of knowledge beforehand and even drafted the spell structure, but he has to start from scratch.
Luckily, there is a book beside him that talks about basic knowledge of a spellcaster.
"Now I understand why I prepared so many crystal coins. It was for this step."
Du You opens the book. Despite the translation feature, he can understand the contents. But to master it in a short while, he has to resort to his crystal coins.
The crystal coins in his hand begin to burn. After burning a total of fifty crystal coins, Du You finally learns the basic knowledge. From the patterns on the stone tablet, he can finally discern some information.
The job of a spellcaster is to comprehend various natural phenomena and unique environments. It uses the line art to mimic their essence, similar to painting but depicting the essence instead.
Eventually, these runes come together to form a spell. The stone tablet shows various natural patterns as references. To the inexperienced Du You, creating his unique spell in such a short time is impossible, so he has to rely on his crystal coins.
"Perfect, this is it. A spell of rule type attack. With this, my magic missile will be obsolete. Let’s construct this, and then...," Du You’s crystal coins start burning again.
Once he identifies the spell pattern that catches his eye, the spell deductions begin. Numerous crystal coins are burned in the process. If it were someone else, they wouldn’t have such a vast sum to burn. Trading crystal coins can’t work; it has to be his own.
If his crystal coins weren’t plentiful enough, his career change would indeed be in trouble this time. Even now, Du You doesn’t know whether his prepared stash is enough. It’s ridiculous for a level 1 Awakener to feel that so many crystal coins still isn’t enough.
