Chapter 598: Chapter 598
The unicorn, conditioned as it was, rubbed against Du You as soon as it was summoned. Du You could feel that the unicorn wasn’t showing affection, rather, it was expressing fear of him. But that didn’t matter. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝⚑𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖⚑𝕟𝕖𝕥
The proverb of carrot and stick truly worked wonders. With the presence of the Light Attribute fruit, the unicorn’s fear was diminishing, and its affection towards him was growing stronger. The unicorn’s innate aversion persisted due to their differing attributes but that didn’t matter.
The power Du You possessed was of pure Dark Attribute and not chaos. Although his attribute was repulsive to the unicorn, there was no absolute conflict. Moreover, bound by the contract, the little unicorn could accept it.
What surprised Du You was that the unicorn was even more repulsive towards the two beautiful sisters than himself.
Although the sisters’ powers didn’t repel the Light Attribute, rather, they were perfectly enhanced by it; but their powers originally derived from demonic power. The essence of power always carried a hint of demonic aura which was the natural enemy of light creatures such as unicorns.
During their previous encounter, if Du You hadn’t stopped him in time, the unicorn might have attacked them.
Such a reaction left the two sisters feeling perplexed and depressed. As young girls, they were fond of creatures like unicorns. In the end, both sisters offered fruits to the unicorn in order to improve relations.
Gradually, both of the sisters shifted their attention to the unicorn.
While Du You was left soothing the two sisters, their father was facing all kinds of hardships. Many people came knocking on his door, warning him and recording all kinds of statements.
This was all because Du You had requested them to avoid causing harm to people, otherwise, they might have resorted to more underhanded means.
Regarding their clients, the certification institutes provided enthusiastic services. After all, to maintain their reputation, they needed such offenders to make examples out of. Over the recent years, there were few people who dared to cross them.
Now that they had found one, even if it meant running at a loss, the certification institute was keen on making an example out of him. It was a warning to the others, so they could attract more people to do business with them in the future.
At first, the old man didn’t really care, considering it merely verbal warnings that meant nothing. He had been threatened many a time before, and didn’t think this time was any different. He was even planning to continue causing trouble for his two daughters whenever he got a chance.
However, the old man soon realized something was wrong. His actions had been recorded, edited, and spread everywhere, especially in his vicinity where almost everyone saw it.
Those who already knew he was a bad sort now had proof, and he became infamous. People pointed and whispered about him on the street and he was even pelted with stones without knowing who threw them.
When he tried to shop, the vendors refused to sell anything to him, regardless of how high a price he offered.
He returned home, huffing and puffing with rage, "Rebels, all of you are rebels! Seeing my high status, and that my son had become a professional, you don’t even sell stuff to me anymore. Are you all trying to rebel?"
However, the old man was only brave enough to shout these words at home, he wouldn’t dare say them outside because he had offended too many people.
Suddenly, the door to the room was pushed open. The old man yelled, "What is this? Have you no manners?" After he had finished scolding, he realized his elder son had returned home. "Oh dear, what happened to you? Why do you look so pale? The mission, was it? Even if the yield wasn’t large, it doesn’t matter, you can always continue next time." The old man dismissed his concerns.
However, his eldest son looked even more upset. "It’s all because of you! If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be unable to even find a team to join. Now, the regular organizations won’t even let me use their World Boat."
The old man was taken aback, without the World Boat, he wouldn’t be able to go to the Other World. Without access to the Other World, what was the difference between a professional and a normal person? Over time, the potential would only diminish.
"How could that happen, why wouldn’t they let you use it? That’s against the rules."
"What rule? If they don’t want to lend their World Boat, how is that breaking any rule? Not even the laws can do anything to them. Why am I so unlucky!" His eldest son sat down on the floor, dejected.
The old man was frightened. His current status was all due to his eldest son. If his son couldn’t return, or got trapped in the Other World, or even died out there, what would he do?
"There’s also the random teleport option to the world, but you seem to think it’s a good thing. Do you know how dangerous it is? Do you know the death rate of the world hunters? Are you trying to get me killed?"
"So what do we do? We can’t just give up." the old man helplessly said.
"What can we do? The certification institute wants us to go away, as far away as possible, it’s ideal if we leave the Imperial Capital. I think, it’s impossible to stay here, I must go."
"What? Move? How can we do that?" The old man couldn’t bear to part with the environment of the Imperial City, he didn’t want to go to a strange place, and more importantly, he couldn’t bear to part with his two daughters who could provide him with benefits. If he left, wouldn’t he have to depend on himself in the future?
"If you don’t want to leave, I will. I can’t continue living here anyway."
"How could you be so selfish? If you leave, you will leave me behind. Have you forgotten who enabled your second Law Formalization?" The old man was angry to see his favorite son acting .
The eldest son’s face was full of mockery. "That still boils down to the money you got from selling my two sisters, besides, most of that money you squandered, and you only gave me one chance to get Law Formalization. I succeeded due to my own strength, or else, I wouldn’t even get a third chance. The money I earned and you squandered, I have already paid back."
The old man clutched his chest. He never imagined a day when his own son would stand against him.
Of course, he dared to yell and berate his daughters because he knew they wouldn’t impact him much. But he didn’t dare to do so with his son. The well-being of his family was all on his eldest son.
If he really made his eldest son angry and he left, what would he do? Could he still have good days ahead? He was accustomed to his extravagant lifestyle lately, he dare not imagine having to return to his previous life.
