Chapter 583: Chapter 583
After leaving the city, there were still many people outside. However, as they moved further away, the number of people decreased.
"What kind of terrain is this? It’s all trees." Du You looked at the surrounding environment and felt very uncomfortable. After leaving the town, there were no roads at all. It felt as if they were walking through a forest.
Furthermore, this was not an ordinary forest, it had the features of a primeval forest. However, the animals in this area were very peaceful. Most creatures, including Magical Beasts, would not attack unless provoked.
The majority of creatures here were herbivores, making it puzzling as to why the Magical Beasts had not consumed all the plants. Perhaps the rapid growth of the plants or the scarcity of animals was the reason.
This world gave Du You a feeling of excessive peacefulness.
Regardless, Du You came across many saplings as he travelled. Some peculiar plants had already formed on branches or aerial roots before touching the ground. Once they touched the ground, they began to grow normally, standing tall as new trees in these regions.
Du You inserted a formed sapling into the ground, but there was no indication from his system saying that he had gained a sapling. "Do I need to sever it? Let’s try it," suggested Du You as he cut off the connecting part of the sapling.
From the feel of it, the sapling seemed to have great potential for growth, but to his disappointment, there was still no notification.
What did this mean? Was the sapling unable to survive, or was there some other reason?
Du You didn’t quite understand but decided to continue forwards. "Everyone, keep your eyes open, we should gather a variety of different saplings to test," said Du You as they began to gather materials.
Given how massive the Heavenly Disaster Demonic Dogs were, the rainforest surroundings were hardly a proper habitat for them. So, Du You only summoned the Black Jade Griffin and the Hell Blood Demon Dog to act as porters. The Black Jade Griffin not only could fly but could also walk on the ground without causing much disturbance. The source of this content ɪs 𝔫𝔬𝔳𝔢𝔩~𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢~𝔫𝔢𝔱
Throughout their journey, Du You periodically planted a few saplings, but to his dismay, no matter how he planted them, they never succeeded.
"It appears that it isn’t merely a problem with the type of sapling or the environment. There must be something I haven’t thought of, or something I do not know," said Du You, though he continued to try different methods.
Eventually, they arrived at the Gloomy Canyon. Upon glancing at it, Du You found that it definitely lived up to its name.
The upper part of the canyon appeared to converge in the middle. There used to be cracks that allowed sunlight to reach the bottom. However, for some unknown reason, many large trees had grown on top, covering most of the cracks.
Thus, the sunlight that reached the bottom was minimal. On the cliffs and on the ground, there were numerous bioluminescent plants with red or yellow leaves. The ground was even more over-the-top, with many mushrooms, some of which were as big as houses. Walking beneath them felt as if they are moving through the darkness of the night.
The light in the air was dim, nowhere near the brightness of a full moon night. Du You and Lin Yucha had special talents that allowed them to see clearly in the dark.
However, Lin Yushi looked rather bothered as she lacked such skills and was not of a Dark Physique. Hence, the dim lighting at this place hindered her vision.
Fortunately, by using the faint light and her level 19 skills, Lin Yushi could still make out most things.
"This place... indeed, no one comes here. However, we don’t know what dangers lie ahead. Let’s be cautious. Weather the trees grow here or not, let’s dump all the saplings here first." Du You suggested.
Knowing the danger they were walking into, bringing along the saplings would be foolish.
Du You and the two sisters began planting saplings around. Just as Du You had expected, the bioluminescent environment of this place was not fit for planting. The system did not recognize any saplings planted here.
By this point, after all this time, Du You realized there was no progress in his main mission. What he had initially thought to be a simple task had proven to be very different.
Never mind, he thought. He would just ask around when he went back. He could not believe that he would not be able to complete the main mission.
After disposing of all the saplings, Du You began moving forward into the canyon. As there were no others around, Du You confidently summoned all his beasts. However, the flying ones could only fly at low altitudes.
Gradually, they moved further in and after what felt like an eternity, the skies above were pitch black. The only source of light was from some luminous mushrooms on the ground. The environment no longer felt like the surface but the underground. Furthermore, the behavior of the surrounding creatures also started to change.
Du You swung out a Disintegration Spell and instantly vanished a snake that leapt towards them.
"The creatures here are so aggressive, much more so than the Magical Beasts in many other worlds. Could it be the environment that’s affecting them?" pondered Du You.
Ever since they entered this place, they had faced numerous attacks, which was unthinkable elsewhere. But this suited the laws of nature.
No wonder Elves didn’t place. Now Du You had a better understanding of it.
"This is so annoying! I need to acquire a skill suitable for night vision," grumbled Lin Yushi. Since arriving here, her speed of detecting enemies was far slower than that of her sister and master.
Lin Yucha gently patted her little sister and said, "Don’t worry too much. As your level increases, your vision will naturally improve. We do not belong to the Dark Attribute, but our power comes from Demons, giving us a greater advantage in the dark than others. When you can’t see clearly, you can rely on Mind Perception."
Du You chimed in, "Yes, it’s not a big deal actually. Just calm down and you’ll see more clearly. Once you reach the third tier, this kind of environment will no longer affect you."
Lin Yushi muttered, "If I reach the third tier, I wouldn’t be able to enter here anymore. Because you are suppressing your levels, we can’t break through either."
Du You rolled his eyes. He had been too nice to these two girls, allowing them to become so unruly.
"Don’t talk nonsense! We just need to support the things Master wants to do," Lin Yucha immediately slapped Lin Yushi upon hearing her words. Lin Yushi obviously understood her mistake, quickly stuck out her tongue in an apologetic manner.
