Chapter 544: Chapter 544

Just prior the start of the frontal battles, Shali took his men on a detour. Since they needed to pass through the dense forest, the number of men brought along wasn’t many.

In addition to his two hundred second-tier Quicksand Soldiers and a few priests, the number of first-tier Quicksand Soldiers he brought was minuscule. In total, the forces only added up to five hundred men, a massive difference compared to the number in frontal battles.

The Sandpeople that moved this time around brought five thousand men, a number that could compare to some large tribes.

All the others, apart from these five hundred, were left on the front battlefields, even the Sand Sculpture Knights were there.

Regrettably, what they didn’t know was that someone was already waiting for them here.

"Have they arrived? It’s time for us to act," Lin Yushi was becoming somewhat impatient.

Lin Yucha pacified her younger sister: "Wait a bit more, let them come in, this is our home court."

What she meant was right. The Sandpeople’s forte was fighting in the desert. As long as there was sand, that was their home court. Unfortunately, there was no sand here. The Sandpeople couldn’t even burrow into the ground.

And now, these people had to enter the dense forest, an environment that the Sandpeople certainly didn’t acclimate to. The ground was all rocky; there were no possibilities to create a desert environment. They could only manoeuvre here when the time came.

Within the dense forests, the Sandpeople could not gather together and slowly became scattered. What they didn’t know was that inside the trees laid numerous human figures, people who had been lying in ambush here for quite some time.

"Ah, who is attacking me?" a Sandperson screamed in pain. A sharp, sudden danger caused him to dodge sideways. But he couldn’t avoid it entirely. His shoulder was hit by an arrow, rendering one of his arms useless.

Although he could use his remaining three arms, it significantly impacted his fighting capability.

Following the first injury, the screams of agony became increasingly frequent. Some were injured while others were killed instantly. Thɪs chapter is updated by 𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭·𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢·𝗇𝗲𝘵

Shali’s eyes widened as he looked around. Sadly, the sunlight was blocked here, giving off a sinister vibe. Coupled with the dense trees, he found this environment greatly discomforting, as it seemed that everywhere he looked something was obstructing his view.

"Despicable humans. Having set this ambush here, I, Shali, swear that you will pay for this,"said Shali.

Saying this, Shali swung the long knife in his hand, chopping down all the trees before him. Yet, right after doing so, a bolt of lightning came shooting towards him. Shali hastily raised another knife to block the lightning bolt. Even though the lightning was blocked, the ground suddenly sprouted Bloodsucking Demon vines that curled towards Shali. Simultaneously, a covert arrow was speeding towards him.

Shali barely sliced the Bloodsucking Demon Vines and blocked the powerful arrow by a hairbreadth. He was completely on guard. Although he wasn’t injured, the quick and frantic movements made his muscles ache.

Looking at the arrow embedded in the ground, Shali felt a chill. There was definitely a formidable archer here.

"Humans! I know you are here. Come out. Allow us to have a fair fight," he shouted.

Lin Yucha and Lin Yushi sneered in their hearts: "Hum, he has brought so many people and still wants to talk about fairness – it’s ridiculous."

"Little sister, don’t think too much. Take this opportunity to quickly eliminate him. After all this, we also need to go to the city wall. I’m a bit worried. It seems like the Destruction Flames spell just failed," said Lin Yucha.

Looking at the Destruction Flames in the air that collapsed before they even hit the ground, Lin Yucha was somewhat worried.

Thinking about this, the two of them increased their speed. Within the dense forest, they rapidly changed their positions, making it impossible for Shali to keep track of them. Yet, they were incredibly in sync.

Even though they had fewer skills, they could still suppress the towering Shali by cooperating. Had it not been for Shali’s strong defense and several defense-type skills, he would have been killed already.

But even as such, Shali’s Dou Qi was being depleted quickly, and two wounds on his body were still bleeding. At this rate, it was only a matter of time before he gave up. However, it was futile to say anything at this point - Shali couldn’t even escape. His only hope was that his subordinates would come to his aid.

Though, what he didn’t know was that his subordinates were in worse condition than he was.

The level 20 Shadow Shooters’ regular attacks were not much weaker than the two sisters, and they had more skills. They were not accustomed to the forest environment at first. However, as the battle progressed, they gradually adapted.

The Shadow Shooters, naturally more suited to this environment than the Quicksand Soldiers, were of a higher level and had ranged attacks. Their side hadn’t suffered many losses, whereas half of the Quicksand Soldiers were already severely injured or dead.

Suddenly, a black shadow sprang out, biting a Quicksand Soldier and dragging him away. The Quicksand Soldier attempted to resist, but he felt an intense cold permeate his body. This was something he had never experienced, living in the desert.

As a result, his resistance was weak and he quickly disappeared into the darkness.

"What sort of monster is this? What on earth is in this place?" The other Quicksand Soldiers panicked even more when they noticed this situation.

The creature that had just attacked was a Snow Wolf. Each Shadow Shooter was accompanied by a Snow Wolf. So, one hundred and fifty Shadow Shooters were accompanied by one hundred and fifty Snow Wolves. In this forest, they had a total of three hundred second-tier enemies. Comparing the numbers, they already outnumbered the high-levelled Sandpeople who arrived here.

Not only did they have more skilled warriors, but they were also better adapted to this environment, making the battle extremely relaxed.

The battle had not gone on for long before a large number of Sandpeople around them was cleared. During their panicked escape, many were either killed by a cold arrow or bitten and killed by a Snow Wolf.

If they counted now, they would find that they had less than two hundred people left. Among them, the number of second-tier Sandpeople left was less than fifty.

Only one second-tier Quicksand Priest was left.

This guy used a defensive spell, creating swirls of quicksand around him. If not for that, he wouldn’t have survived. But such a method could only buy him some time; he would eventually run out of magic power.

There were three Shadow Shooters nearby waiting. Everyone was now competing in patience and magic power. If the Quicksand Priest ran out of magic first, the moment he was drained would be his moment of death.

Listening to the constant screams around him, Shali became more and more frustrated. Coupled with his quickly depleting Dou Qi, escape became the only thing on Shali’s mind. "Maybe, if I defend with all my might, I can perhaps escape," Shali thought.
