Chapter 421: Chapter 421

The Horned Demons’ perception ability was not shabby. Before Du You could even make a move, these demons detected his presence and charged straight towards him. Behind him, the two women instinctively let out gasps of surprise.

It couldn’t be helped. The strength of the Horned Demons far exceeded that of the two women and they moved too swiftly for them to keep track.

Of course, in comparison to Du You’s perspective, these demons did not appear particularly fast. Following them were the actual fast-movers, the second-tier Horned Demons. With so many demons crowded together, they wouldn’t be able to break free quite so easily.

With a single thought, Du You released a shield spell that could be mistaken for an unassuming block of black crystal. His magic blockade barricaded the entrance of the cave in an instant. The demons coming from the front were moving at full tilt and collided head-on into the shield.

The demons that had recovered from the sudden impact, attacked the barrier relentlessly, causing a "boom-boom" resonance.

Without any delay, Du You cast Disintegration Spells one following another, turning each demon into fragments of their corpse.

"This isn’t the topography I prefer. How will my spell fare here?" Momentarily, the strewn corpses were obstructing the mouth of the cave. The demons from behind had a hard time getting around them to come forward, and Du You also found it difficult to proceed.

Maintaining the shield spell drained a lot of power. Even though Du You had weakened his shield spell, it wasn’t feasible for him to sustain it for an extended duration. After becoming a second-tier professional hunter, the most significant transformation for professionals was that they could now control the magnitude of most of their skills. Unfortunately, those that required vast amounts of power, still drained too much.

Rather than sustaining the shield spell, Du You disbanded it. Seeing the crazed demons starting to swarm towards him, Du You waved his hand, and a vast black fog was created, charging towards the front.

If you looked closer, you could see that the black fog comprised of tiny insect-like entities. The insects were not much bigger than common flies; their bodies were black in colour, with darkness-encompassing shells, that seemed capable of absorbing all light.

Their heads featured large pincers, within which were smaller ones, possessed complicated oral apparati.

Indeed, these entities were not just any black fog; they were insects.

This was Du You’s first usage of the Putrid Insect Mist in real combat since its conception. However, he was not overly surprised, as he had seen the form of Carrion Dark Scarabs, formed from this energy, before in practice.

The two sisters, seeing these insects for the first time, instinctively took a few steps back. They tried their best to control their fear, but upon their first encounter with such a spectacle, even Du You found his hairs standing on end. How could young girls, who were naturally terrified of bugs, not have any reactions?

The insects descended upon the corpses and started devouring them rapidly, to the point that the reduction in the corpses’ size was visible to the naked eye.

After a brief moment of feeding, an insect suddenly turned into black fog, before splitting into two insects. Then, the two Carrion Dark Scarabs continued to consume the flesh and within no time, they multiplied again.

What began as a small cloud of insects rapidly grew in size. This massive group of dark beetles developed and spread forward. Once the corpses were mostly devoured, the Horned Demons finally broke through the blockade of corpses and emerged.

Unfortunately, what awaited them were not the humans, it was an onslaught of Carrion Dark Scarabs.

The beetles viciously bit into the demons. Their tough scales and skin did little to protect them. The penetration caused the scales and skin to shatter instantly, and a large amount of dark energy was injected.

This was not poison, but a deployment of dark energy, causing the flesh to rot at an accelerated rate.

However, the rotting flesh was devoured by the beetles before it could even stink. The beetles scurried in a frenzy to burrow into the demons. The most update n0vels are published on 𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓵※𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮※𝓷𝓮𝓽

The pain-stricken demons thrashed and pounded madly around them. They even considered their comrades as foes and attacked them. This chaos spread among the remaining Horned Demons. The struggling demons, in their chaos, accidentally allowed the Carrion Dark Scarabs to infiltrate within their ranks.

With their touch, the beetles effortlessly climbed onto other demons, tore through their skin, burrowed into their bodies and continued to feed and multiply.

Unwittingly, a vast majority of the demons were now trapped in this unique predicament.

The demonic behemoths couldn’t do anything about the beetles inside them; they could only watch helplessly in horror as they were devoured. Only a few second-tier Horned Demons managed to use their own energy to form a black, demonic force to protect themselves.

Under the protection of demonic energy, the beetles could only struggle against the power. Each bite rotted the demonic energy but also drained their own power. These beetles were at a stalemate with the demons for now.

"These second-tier Horned Demons are quite impressive to have this skill," remarked Du You, finally shifting his gaze away from the beetles.

Despite being the one to cast the spell, Du You was still in awe. He was stunned that he had managed to create such a powerful and lethal spell. Against an army with lower strength but larger in numbers, these beetles were nothing short of a disaster.

Seeing the second-tier Horned Demons that were still resisting, Du You didn’t hesitate to attack. A Disintegration Spell was cast, and the demon’s protective barrier of energy was immediately torn apart. For a while, the demons were unable to summon their demonic energy to protect themselves against the beetles burrowing inside their bodies.

As Du You sequentially cast the disintegration spells, the second-tier demons met their painful fate.

If the second-tier Horned Demons hadn’t been forced to desperately release their demonic energy, a single Disintegration Spell would have taken them down. Unfortunately, their release of demonic energy had temporarily spared them, and they didn’t succumb to a single blow.

However, it just made their downfall far more painful.

At this moment, a demon suddenly exploded like a broken glass bottle, and a multitude of black entities broke forth. One glance would tell you that these were the Carrion Dark Scarabs.

But the sheer number was horrifying. With such an overwhelming black tide, one couldn’t help but shudder.

Du You didn’t make any forward progress. He was able to roughly command the direction in which the beetles moved. When he ordered the beetles to venture inside, they advanced. At the same time, he felt that he could command the beetles to not consume certain things.

For now, Du You didn’t issue any directives. He gave them free rein to gorge on the corpses, considering that the beetles consume only flesh and bones.

Once a demon was fully consumed by the beetles, even its horns and bones were not spared. Anything that was physical was thoroughly cleaned away. Ultimately, nothing of a demon was left; the beetles had left the cave exceptionally clean.

Within a blink, only a few second-tier demons were still persisting.
