Chapter 402: Chapter 402

Well, if I’m a coward, I’m a coward. There’s nothing wrong with that, is it? Du You thought to himself, comforting his bruised ego.

"I’ve been waiting to eat until you got here, and now I’m starving. Hurry up and prepare dinner!"

Lin Yucha and Lin Yushi instantly nodded, darting towards the kitchen in a bit of a panic. Du You watched them, eyes wide, completely mystified how his sister managed to train these two to be so obedient so quickly.

If only he had the knack for it too. Du You couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy.

"Here, I had initially prepared a fine gift for you to celebrate your Professional status, but who would’ve thought you’d end up as Magic-class? So now there’s no good gift for you, only these to make do with."

Du Yun took out a box, fiddled with it for a bit, and handed it to him.

"It’s fine if there’s nothing, it’s just a Professional ranking, what’s the big deal?" Du You didn’t care one bit. With his raw ability, he could get whatever he wanted, why should he fear not having any good stuff in the future?

However, when he opened the box, Du You immediately closed his mouth. "These things are too precious, and wouldn’t they be useful for you too?" He seemed to remember that his sister was also a mage class.

"Either these things are useless to me, or I’ve already got duplicates. Otherwise, I would’ve learned them a long time ago and wouldn’t have saved them until now. I will keep an eye out for the Dark Element Stone you want, we can discuss it once I find it," Du Yun said, waving her hand dismissively. Yet, Du You couldn’t help but feel touched. His often absent sister actually doted on him a lot, despite her liking to bully him.

Inside the box, there were two Crystal Stones and a scroll.

One of the Crystal Stones was for the basic magic skill, Energy Calm. He had no idea who had separated this. Although it was a basic ability, Energy Calm was in fact, quite unique, as it wasn’t exactly a commonplace basic ability.

Firstly, it required one to have Magic Power before they could possibly cultivate it. Although basic, it can’t be cultivated before one awakens, hence its high value, relevant to all mages. Googlᴇ search 𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭•𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮•𝘯𝘦𝘵

Skill Crystal: Energy Calm, stabilizes one’s Magic Power which reduces spell cooldown time, thus increasing spell casting speed. (Basic Skill, Level 9).

The description was simple, but very foundational. With a Spellcaster’s casting speed, learning this skill would allow most of his spells to reach instantaneous speed.

As for reducing spell cooldown time, this aspect wasn’t all that beneficial to him. His spell’s cooldown time were all generally quite brief, nearly negligible. As for the cooldown time of summoning spells, this skill was ineffective.

Glancing at Du Yun, Du You thought about it before ultimately accepting it. He would save something good for Du Yun in the future.

"By the way, what’s your profession? Is this item useful to you?" He asked as he activated the Crystal Stone to learn. Instantly, a new skill showed up on his skill panel.

However, without casting it, Du You had no idea the exact effect of this skill.

Seeing Du You using the gift she had given, Du Yun smiled satisfactorily, "Your sis is an Arcane Master and I’m the team’s main damage dealer. By the way, you don’t have a team yet, do you?"

Arcane Master, huh? Du You was intrigued. Arcane Masters were similar to Spellcasters. Though an Arcane Master could be visibly powerful with more money, one with less funding was comparable to a typical mage.

As for his team, Du You pointed toward the kitchen, "’They’re currently in training."

"You’re not really going to let those two followers of yours join your team, are you? Although their loyalty is not in question, this will be a huge burden for you," Du Yun said, sounding incredulous.

Du You waved his hand dismissively, "It’s fine, if the two of them can’t make it, I’ll just switch them out. Followers aren’t expensive anyway."

That was true. Du Yun nodded, as long as Du You didn’t create any problems, she was fine with it.

Du You picked up the second Crystal Stone; it was for an advanced skill called Spiritual Shield.

Spiritual Shield: prerequisite skill Basic Meditation level 10, constructs a shield in the Spiritual Sea to defend against spiritual and soul-based attacks (Level 1).

This was a skill as valuable as Energy Calm. Although the prerequisite of Basic Meditation was substantial, he was already there. On the surface, this skill seemed to have no effect but in reality, it was entirely different.

Regardless of whether you were a mage or a warrior, facing various spiritual or soul attacks was a perilous venture. With this skill, his resistance against different spiritual attacks and illusions would substantially improve.

Truth to be told, regardless of whether Du Yun had already learned these skills or not, their value was undoubtedly high. Even if he couldn’t use them directly, they would sell very well, drawing the attention of many others.

However, Du You knew these were gifts from his sister, and refusing them would sadden her.

After activating the Crystal Stone and learning the skill, Du You turned his attention to the last item, a scroll.

Magic Scroll (Tier 2): Soul Pierce, Condenses spiritual power into a sharp point to pierce the enemy’s soul (Level 11, 6-star).

It was a primary attack skill of the spirit attribute, directly attacking the soul. Such spirit attribute skills were suitable for all mages since all mages had Spiritual Power. It could be argued this skill had no attributes as it matched anyone perfectly without causing any adverse effect.

Another main attack skill would bring great convenience to his battles. The only downer was that this skill was yet another special attack type.

What Du You really needed was a powerful attack skill of the regular type. He was lacking in this and it seemed he had to figure out a way to get it himself.

As for the Tier 2 skill, it was a lower limit for the skill. To learn Soul Pierce, one must first reach the Awakener stage, with a base skill level of 11. If one failed to meet this condition, they wouldn’t be able to learn it. For the native individuals who might learn this skill prematurely and use it recklessly, the consequences could be very severe.

He carefully put away the scroll. Satisfied, Du Yun nodded just as Lin Yucha and Lin Yushi finished preparing the food. At the dinner table, Du Yun started poking fun at her poor little brother again.

"Your life here is really comfortable. By the way, the room on the upper floor to the left will be mine from now on."

Feeling defeated, Du You agreed. The furthest one on the left, at least it wasn’t his room, but it was the largest one besides his own. Trust Du Yun to take the biggest one for herself without any courtesy.
