Chapter 287: Chapter 287

The animals here didn’t show any signs of aggression. As long as one doesn’t make the first move, they won’t attack. But if one of them is attacked, the rest would rush towards the attacker recklessly.

These creatures had lost all sense of autonomy, bereft of their thoughts, and were now under control. Fresh chapters posted on 𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓵•𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮•𝓷𝓮𝓽

Yet, the monster controlling these animals seemed unable to fully control them. Otherwise, it wouldn’t just let them waste away needlessly. Their lack of fighting strength aside, they should still serve a purpose.

Unconsciously, Du You had reached the deep second level of the sewer. Just when he thought he would only be able to solve the mystery once he reached the third level, he suddenly came to a halt.

His sense of Spiritual Perception picked up anomalies in the sewer next to him.

In that place, Du You could sense the breath of little animals slowly moving away and subsequently vanishing. At the same time, there was a strong evil aura.

This aura held a strong Dark Attribute, something that Du You, as a dark attribute adept, was highly familiar with. He definitely could not be mistaken about this.

"What on earth is this thing? Check around with the wristband scanner and see how we could get there."

Since something different was discovered, he had to find a way to inspect it. The passages weren’t complicated, but getting to the next one wasn’t easy either.

The scanning ability of the wristband elf was pretty good. It quickly analyzed the structure of the second level sewer based on previous mapping and formulated a possible way to get there.

"Within three hundred meters ahead, could there be a fork in the road? Let me check." Du You hastened his steps.

He hadn’t walked three hundred meters, barely two hundred and twenty or so, when he saw a fork in the road, or rather, a junction of two paths. Without thinking twice, Du You crossed the Mucus Swamp with a single leap.

Continuing to walk along this path, he soon reached the exact place, confirmed by his earlier sense. The ground here was littered with a myriad of animals. Ironically, these animals didn’t even hint at the idea of attacking. Even when witnessing fellow animals being melted by the Mucus Swamp, they showed no aggression.

The animals here were higher in level, more mutated, most of their flesh already rotten. However, their lack of aggression was even more pronounced.

Even if they tried to attack him, it would amount to nothing. The resistance towards poison of these creatures was far below that required to withstand his Mucus Swamp. In the end, they were nothing more than ordinary mutated animals.

Not much further ahead, Du You finally spotted the culprit of all this.

"Damn it, isn’t this a Seaweed Monster? Has the seaweed evolved and is seeking revenge against humanity?"

Du You instinctively cursed. What’s before him was a big lump of intertwining seaweeds, giving the bizarre impression of a giant ball.

Countless seaweed-like substances stretched out of it, curling and swirling around like a massive tentacled monster.

The small animals nearby, one by one, began to approach the Seaweed Monster. The seaweed tentacles then started entangling them, not binding them but enough for Du You to see what was happening.

A strange power engulfed an animal and soon it started to soften, its body gradually turning into thick liquid. Meanwhile, a distinctive energy derived from the process was absorbed by the monster.

When did such monsters come to inhabit the sewers? The strong yet horribly mixed Dark Attribute pervaded the surroundings. Even through his gas mask, Du You could smell the disgusting scent.

Finally, the Seaweed Monster noticed that something was off as the feasts it summoned were becoming scarce. Immersed in its feast, how could it not react?

An eerie moan emerged from within the Seaweed Monster. It had finally Noticed Du You’s presence.

"Such a bother, that’s the trouble with the real world."

Du You muttered to himself, he couldn’t see the name or level of the monster, so he dared not to attack recklessly. If it had a far higher tier than him, then it would surely pose a problem. The surrounding Dark Attribute was exceedingly formidable.

However, before Du You could make up his mind, the Seaweed Monster launched the first attack. A tentacle lashed out towards Du You without any hesitation, seemingly attempting to ensnarl him and digest him like the others.

Without thinking, Du You conjured and released a Disintegration Spell. Yet, as he was about to prepare his Shield Spell, his eyes widened in surprise. His Disintegration Spell had unexpectedly shattered the monster’s tentacle into fragments that fell onto the ground.

"Could it be more fragile than I thought? Could it be that this thing isn’t actually that strong?"

The monster apparently hadn’t expected its tentacle to be shattered. After registering the situation, it let out an ear-piercing shriek. The soundwave resounded, prompting Du You to frown, feeling his temples throbbing.

"Damn that noise!" Du You swung his hand to cast a Mucus Curse, covering the monster.

"I hate these creatures that are resistant to poison and corrosion." The monster, covered in the sticky substance, struggled intensely. It seemed unable to break free. However, neither the poison nor the corrosive property seemed to affect the monster.

As Du You was preparing to attack again, a wave of invisible force surged, causing his head to ache terribly. He grimaced, clutching his forehead while cold sweat flowed down his face.

"Damn it, it’s a psychic attack. This monster is psychic-based. Luckily it’s not at tier two, otherwise, I’d be a goner."

While Du You’s Spiritual Power was strong, he lacked psychic-based skills. If faced with a tier two psychic attack, he certainly wouldn’t be able to withstand it. Du You had always wanted to compensate for this but hadn’t gotten the chance to.

"Damn it, if only there were more psychic-type skills, I wouldn’t...uh..."

As he mumbled to himself, his head throbbed even more. Enduring the pain, he launched a volley of Holy Light Arrows. The arrows pierced through the monster’s seaweed tentacles, emitting smoke as the Holy Light Power eroded it. The monster howled in pain, significantly easing Du You’s pressure.

Nevertheless, the monster showed no signs of relenting, or perhaps, it no longer had the ability to stop.

Now, it’s either Du You dies or the monster does. Du You never expected to encounter such danger within the city. The psychic attack was omnipresent, retreating was no longer an option.
