Chapter 259: Chapter 259
The bisected priest, his upper half still glaring defiantly at the Death Scorpion said, "Why attack me? Even the priests of the Death God Shrine have no right to kill other priests."
"I have you to thank for making the ground sandy. It would have been tougher for my pet to burrow through otherwise," Du You said as he walked out, laying down two more Holy Light Arrow Arrays in the process. Many Sandpeople fell shrieking under the onslaught of the radiant arrows, their quicksand defenses were ill-suited to block such magical attacks.
"You are a human, this Death Scorpion has no priest’s aura. How do you control the Death Scorpion? It’s a sacred object gifted to us by the Death God. You are a human, a plunderer of sacred objects," the dying Quicksand Priest said, his eyes full of shock and hate, but also tinged with disbelief. It was unprecedented for a human to control a Death Scorpion.
Few amongst the Quicksand Priests can make these creatures their companions, and typically only those from the Death God Shrine could manage such a feat. The Death God Shrine is the holy land of the Quicksand Priests, their highest organization. The prospect of this sacred creature appearing in the hands of a human was outrageous.
Were humans genuinely able to earn the recognition of the Death Scorpion now, that was beyond comprehension.
Du You, oblivious to these thoughts, saw the Death Scorpion as merely another creature. Thus, it could be transformed into a Summoned Beast.
Moreover, he only needed the carcass, not a living creature. His self-fabricated Dark Summoned Beasts had no level cap, unlike ordinary Summoned Beasts. This was a massive advantage.
Though other Summoners could summon creatures without limit, to capture a Summoned Beast and break its level cap required considerable effort.
As for the Death Scorpion, it cared not whether its target was a priest or anything else. With a swish of its giant pincers, the upper half of the priest turned into debris, forever frozen in death. Du You was indifferent to the end of the priest who was focusing on controlling his pets and sweeping through the area.
He was driving away the Sandpeople, creating chaos where more numerate Sandpeople had gathered.
Now he could go all out. All accomplishments would be recorded by the emblem and claimed later. Simultaneously, thirty squads attacked from all directions, causing chaos in the Dayun Iron Mine.
"Ah, the damned Sandpeople, they have traps here," cried a soldier as a dagger lodged in his arm. Some traps nearby were still under construction. It was clear they were the handiwork of the Sandpeople.
He was unlucky. Though he had avoided several traps, he had grown careless and fell into one.
"Come quick, the dagger is poisoned, treat me immediately," ordered the injured soldier as he stayed in the rear. He pulled out the dagger, swallowed some antidote, received a basic bandage, then went back to fighting.
The soldiers were engaged in a surprise attack. They had no time for leisurely recovery. Failing to expand their achievements as fast as possible would spell danger. Their activities made the whole Dayun Iron Mine even more chaotic.
Facing the disarray that was the Dayun Iron Mine, a fellow soldier stood up and exclaimed, "All men follow me to attack, the Dayun Iron Mine is in disarray, let’s get in there and destroy them."
Similar calls to arms were echoed by others. More and more people began to run towards the Dayun Iron Mine.
Because they had initially kept a great distance from the Dayun Iron Mine to avoid detection, the main troops were quite far away and couldn’t immediately engage. Those behind had just arrived after an exhausting ordeal and were required to continue without rest.
Had they not been elites, accustomed to constant endurance, they might have been unable to keep up already.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t rely on their main troops now. Du You was driving the Sandpeople ahead of him and running forward.
This was a mining area. Despite the transformations by the Sandpeople, there was less sand on the ground, nothing that resembled a desert. It wasn’t the most suitable environment for the Death Scorpion, but neither was it for the Sandpeople.
Without enough sand, the Sandpeople couldn’t burrow, they could only cross over the rocks, driven forward by Du You. At some point, Du You noticed a big crowd in front of him.
There were two other groups on either side, also driving the people towards him. Excluding the middle crowd, three Sandpeople groups had accumulated and the entire procession had suddenly grown significantly larger.
Du You’s eyes lit up. Such a huge and disorderly crowd, were they not practically handing him accolades?
Without giving it a second thought, he cast the Holy Light Arrow Array of maximum range. A volley of 640 Holy Light Arrows blanketed the crowd like a rainstorm. Sadly, there wasn’t a single Quicksand Priest here.
Amidst screams, Du You’s volley took down over two hundred Sandpeople. The survivors were all injured.
"Bastard! Stop!" From the sky came a roar of anger. Du You looked up to see a Sand Sculpture Knight flying toward him.
"Haha, perfect timing!" Du You’s eyes shone. He was different. Xiaozi, who had not acted until now, was covered in a Thunder Light Orb and shot at the knight directly.
The Sand Sculpture was fast indeed, but not as fast as lightning. At such a short distance and without noticing Xiaozi, it was near-ambush, and two Sand Sculpture Knights were downed in an instant. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ 𝗇𝗈𝗏𝖾𝗅•𝖿𝗂𝗋𝖾•𝗇𝖾𝗍
The remaining three, in a state of panic, hurriedly started their descent, forgetting that Du You was right under them.
"What kind of knights are you who fly this low, seeking death?" Du You was not one to let them off easy. With three Holy Light Arrow Arrays, he fired at them. By the time the Sand Sculpture Knights realized their doom, they were already engulfed by arrows.
The terribly vulnerable knights in the air instantly became Holy Light Hedgehogs, tumbling down to the ground.
Those that watched Du You did so with adoring eyes. These were Sand Sculpture Knights who were slaughtered as easily as chickens. There was a time when, faced with these flying knights, their foot soldiers could do nothing at all.
"The Mage is indeed strong. I must ensure my son becomes a Mage in the future," muttered a soldier.
"No wonder Mages hold such high status. It does make sense now; their power is terrifying."
"Funny, the Mages I’ve seen before did not seem this powerful," many soldiers murmured.
Du You sneered, "What are you standing around for? Hurry up and finish them, then head to other areas. The main troops will arrive soon."
