Chapter 148: Chapter 148
The typical consequence for a mage whose magic shield is broken is death. That’s exactly what Du You was thinking, thus he unhesitatingly cast another five Disintegration Spells.
"No!" cried the mage, his usually tranquil face twisted in agony as he watched the spells fly toward him.
Great terror lies in the face of death; no one can truly ignore it.
Suddenly, the mage’s face turned fierce. "Even if I die, I’ll take you with me, you scum of Border City. This is what you forced me to do." Suddenly, a ring in the mage’s hand exploded.
A blood-red light beam immediately struck Du You, followed instantly by the Disintegration Spells. As all five Disintegration Spells took effect at the same time, the mage’s body shattered into pieces, scattering blood on the ground.
At this moment, Du You felt a scorching heat throughout his body, as if a ball of flame was burning inside him.
And as time passed, this burning sensation grew more intense.
You have been afflicted with a Blood Burning Curse, causing your blood to keep burning.
Effect: The agony of sizzling blood will continue for a month. After a month, the cursed victim will die in severe pain.
"A month, huh? That’s pretty long. It’s a pity, the guy didn’t know my real identity, otherwise he wouldn’t think such a thing could kill me. But this curse really is troublesome."
Despite Du You’s immense spiritual power, he could not locate the curse or feel anything. All he could do now is watch the effects of the curse unfold. Currently, he just feels heated and uncomfortable, but over time, the pain will intensify. Maybe this spell was the mage’s last resort to commit mutual destruction with his enemies.
Looking at the last heavily armed warrior, apart from him, just a few soldiers were barely holding on. Lizardmen warriors were not easy to deal with.
There were more surviving Lizardmen warriors than soldiers. It seemed like the soldiers were stuck in a tight corner.
The heavily armed warrior was barely holding onto his life under the assault of the Dried Corpse Giant Monster. The warrior’s tactics restrained Du You, but the Dried Corpse Giant Monster restrained the heavily armed warrior. It was massive and hence its attacks were powerful.
Even though it couldn’t break through the warrior’s defense, the shockwaves produced by its powerful attacks inflicted much harm on the warrior.
When Dou Qi struck the dried corpse, it only left some scar marks, but not a fatal wound. Furthermore, as the Dried Corpse Giant Monster had a core which could not be destroyed, killing it was out of the question.
Victory was just a matter of time; it might be good to first deal with his injuries.
"Even if I did win, it was a pyrrhic victory." Du You shook his head in disbelief. One of his arms was as limp as a noodle and being tossed about by the wind. His body was also under a curse. If he were a normal person, this would surely be fatal.
At least, with his skills, he knew there was no way to lift the curse.
Du You shook his head, secured his right arm a bit and tried to bear the pain as he bandaged it. Now his arm wouldn’t swing about and the pain would be much less.
With this level of injury, Du You knew that even the best orthopedic surgeon wouldn’t be able to repair it.
After battling the heavily armed warrior for half an hour, the front of the Dried Corpse Giant Monster was in tatters, and the warrior managed to shatter one of its heads. But the heavily armed warrior wasn’t faring well either.
His shield had been knocked away, and much of his armor had been shattered. Not only that, fresh blood was gushing from his inside. The heavily-armored warrior was about to give up.
After giving it some thought, Du You directed several Disintegration Spells to the crack in the warrior’s armor.
Most of the Disintegration Spells were blocked by the armor, but one flew into the crack. The heavily armed warrior groaned and momentarily stiffened.
His gaze towards Du You was filled with rage and regret. Unlike the mages, however, the heavily armed warrior didn’t have many tricks up his sleeve, so there was no ’mutual destruction’ ability he could use.
Under the assault of the Dried Corpse Giant Monster, he soon lost his strength and was struck in the head by the monster’s powerful blow. His helmet, along with his skull, was sent flying, killing him instantly.
"Finally it’s over. Let’s clean up the battlefield quickly and head back." Feeling a blood loss, Du You’s body weakened. He needed to quickly return before he collapsed.
Du You quickly searched the bodies of the four leaders once more and found nothing useful. He decided they could only serve as evidence to take back. There were no treasures in the castle itself, except some wealth and food, which were useless to him.
Du You then summoned another Mucus Swamp, engulfed the remaining food and set it ablaze.
"Xiaozi, how are you recovering? Can you fly now?" As a Summoned Creature, Xiaozi had a high recovery rate.
Xiaozi spread its wings to show Du You that it could fly as long as it didn’t have to dive-bomb. "Great, let’s go back quickly then." Du You climbed onto Xiaozi’s back.
As for the Dried Corpse Giant Monster and the Lizardmen, Du You commanded them to wreak havoc inside the castle and didn’t bother about them afterwards.
After all, these summoned creatures would disappear after their summoning time was up. Riding on Xiaozi, Du You was slower than he was when he arrived, but even so, three hours’ time was enough for him to get back.
After three hours of flying, Du You started to feel dizzy due to the excessive loss of blood.
Luckily, he could see Border City. "Quick, land," he ordered. Content orıginally comes from 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝·𝘧𝙞𝙧𝙚·𝔫𝔢𝔱
As Du You descended, the soldiers immediately took notice of his condition. "Oh no, quickly come help! It’s Captain Du You!" one of them cried.
The soldiers defending Border City immediately recognized Du You. In short order, medical personnel arrived to start treating his arm. They couldn’t heal him, but they could alleviate his pain somewhat.
"His arm is seriously injured, we’ll have to amputate it immediately," one medic suggested.
Du You shook his head. "No need, I know a way to recover, I don’t need to amputate. Just stop the bleeding and stabilize it for me."
Since Du You insisted, the medical team had no choice but to comply.
"Oh no, it’s the Blood Burning Curse. Captain Du You, you’ve been afflicted with the Blood Burning Curse!" The Blood Burning Curse was infamous in this world, as it was considered a deadly spell.
Du You shook his head again. "I said, don’t worry about the curse. I have a way to handle it."
The medics surrounding him were at a loss, they looked at each other and decided to continue with the treatment. Not long after, General Luo Ha received the news and made his way there. He didn’t say anything until the medics finished their treatment, only then did he speak.
