Chapter 122: Chapter 122
Du You wasn’t in the least bit worried, saying calmly, "Since your power is so strong, then you should deal with this. I won’t compete with you." Du You decisively chose to give up.
"Humph, good that you recognize this." Lin Feng boasted, completely unaware of the anxious looks from those under him.
Upon hearing his words, there was nothing Xi Qianxue could do but say, "Alright, we’ll let Lin Feng give it a shot first. If he can’t handle it, then Du You can take over." With that said, Xi Qianxue turned around and left them.
Lin Feng was filled with anger. What did Xi Qianxue mean by this? Did she think that he was weaker than Du You?
Upon thinking this, Lin Feng suddenly pulled out several Crystal Coins and began frantically absorbing them. Suddenly, a faint halo flashed around him and his aura increased. He had reached Level 3.
Compliments from his lackeys filled the air. Du You noticed this, including Lin Feng’s provocative stare.
However, Du You didn’t respond. After all, it was merely a level increase. If it were just a mere level increase, many others here could also reach Level 3, or even Level 4. But without the corresponding level skills, what use would just the level be?
"What an idiot, leveling up instead of improving his skills. How much can that really boost his strength? The main quests he will encounter in the future will definitely be more dangerous," Lao Er said disdainfully. On hearing this, Du You realized that Lao Er had also reached Level 3 at some point, but it was different from Lin Feng’s manner.
Lao Er’s primary skill must surely have reached a matching level.
After all, not everyone was like Du You – able to gain so many Crystal Coins and use them to create high-level skills. For others, learning and honing their skills did not require many Crystal Coins.
In fact, many people learned skills using objects, so they didn’t spend even a single Crystal Coin to enhance their abilities. Such people were considered the weakest in the group.
The opposing parties didn’t see eye-to-eye, so they remained at a great distance. Only Lin Feng had gradually moved to Xi Qianxue’s side, muttering things under his breath. By the looks of it, he probably wasn’t saying anything pleasant.
Du You didn’t bother getting involved. Instead, he conversed with Lao Er whilst learning more about the Derived World. One had to admit, Lao Er was like a walking encyclopedia - he had all the answers.
After spending an entire day travelling, the group finally reached their destination. Half of the people immediately sat on the ground to rest. Having never experienced such a long journey, they were utterly exhausted.
Although Earth had changed, most people still led very comfortable lives. Even though everyone had become Awakened or Semi-Awakened, they were not fully adjusted to life in the Derived World. Travelling for an entire day was a first-time experience for most of them, Du You excluded.
That, in a way, was a test of their resilience.
"Alright, everyone rest for a day. We still have two days left to prepare."
With so much time remaining, Xi Qianxue allowed everyone to rest. Maybe she had anticipated this situation, which was why she had asked them to set off early. Otherwise, reaching here in such a drained state, they would not be a match for their enemies.
At this time, Lao Er sketched a map on the ground, explaining it to the others.
"You see, this is the terrain for this Half-Beastmen invasion event. The area is surrounded by forests. However, the forest in the front is much denser, so using long-range attacks like arrows against the Half-Beastmen is not ideal. We can only inflict effective damage when they come close, which is a disadvantage.
However, the forest is incredibly dense, so setting up traps here would be optimal. The middle area is a gap; as long as we can defend this spot, the Half-Beastmen won’t be able to enter."
Lao Er continued, pointing towards the back, "Once we lose control of the gap, we should retreat into the forest behind us. The trees here aren’t as densely packed, offering us an easier escape but also facilitating the enemy’s pursuit."
"Therefore, if we haven’t collapsed by then, we will have to find a way to stop the enemy here. Otherwise, once we cross this forest, the plain ahead won’t offer us any place to hide."
"You’re right, so I suggest we set up some traps here as well. We will remember their locations, these at least will help delay the Half-Beastmen. Of course, this is merely a precaution."
Sometime later, Daniu joined them. Turning to the side, he saw that Xi Qianxue had also come over.
While everybody else was resting, only Liu Jian was explaining the situation of the upcoming task. Xi Qianxue stared at Liu Jian, her eyes reflecting an inexplicable look.
"So, for the next two days, we have to set up traps here. I’m good at this; all I have to do is dig pits, right? Oh, do we have a shovel?" Lao Er shouted out.
Lao Er irritably slapped him on the head, "Don’t just think about digging pits! While pits can be useful, there are certainly other traps we should be using. I believe you all must have made some preparations for this."
Xi Qianxue nodded, "That’s right, we have. We plan to set up combustible materials around the perimeter. When all Half-Beastmen enter, we can start a fire. But in the beginning we need other traps, preferably ones that come with skills. Such traps will be hard to detect."
Xi Qianxue then addressed Du You, "Your Mucus Swamp is very impressive; it has a large scope, strong effects, and it’s very covert."
Du You shook his head, "That won’t work. Although our Mucus Swamp can serve as a trap, it has a specific duration. It can only last for an hour. I can’t possibly wait for the Half-Beastmen to arrive before setting it up."
In any case, they didn’t know the precise time; if it was used up, it would not be advantageous for the impending fight.
"I see, no matter. There are others who can set up traps. Tomorrow, it will mainly depend on those people." Xi Qianxue looked somewhat disappointed, but she was prepared for this. It wouldn’t matter if they were short one person.
Off in the distance, Lin Feng was muttering something incoherently - probably nothing good.
"If we want to gain the most from fighting the Half-Beastmen, staying at the gap is not the best strategy. It would be better to head into the dense forest ahead and engage with the Half-Beastmen individually. The fewer people participating, the bigger the reward.
