Chapter 115: Chapter 115
After an entire day, when darkness fell, they continued on their journey for some time before they reached their destination.
"See that large camp ahead? That’s the bandit lair," one of them pointed out.
"That’s the place? It’s so dirty and disordered," Lan Xiaodie murmured, showing disgust. After all, it was a place inhabited by beastmen, and even with a few humans living there, one couldn’t expect much of a change.
"No choice but to bear with it. Most of the battle shouldn’t take place inside, so we just need to reach the end," another replied.
Du You seemed rather dismayed as he looked at his panel. Like their previous mission, even though they had completed it, there wasn’t much of a reward. That mission only rewarded them ten white crystal coins.
This mission might offer a greater reward, but probably not by a lot. As for the reward for completing the hidden mission, it was mainly military merit, not even a single treasure chest was given.
He really didn’t understand why these people were constantly scheming to complete tasks. Wouldn’t it be easier to just charge in and kill as many as they could? The more you kill, the greater the rewards, regardless of the mission or its rules.
Du You was not stupid, but he simply didn’t want to bother calculating these things. In his eyes, all that mattered was strength. Just like when playing a game, if you are powerful enough, who cares about the quests? The only reason to engage in quests was to understand the storyline, but when the plot collapsed, the quests lost their meaning.
"Alright, so now I want to know what your plan is," Du You finally spoke up, sounding rather helpless.
Xi Qianxue made no attempt to hide the plan: "Before coming here, I investigated this task. There are over 500 people in the entire camp. I’m not sure how many exactly, but most of them are of low quality. As long as we aren’t surrounded, even a large number of them won’t be a match for us."
Du You believed this. During his past encounters with bandits, he had seen that these ordinary bandits were little better than refugees. If not for their brutish nature, they might not even be able to defeat the refugees.
The situation here would likely be similar, or perhaps even worse, because of the sheer number of people. Surely, many of them hadn’t participated in looting and plundering. Judging from the surrounding fields, these bandits had already started farming.
"Regardless of the number of ordinary bandits, we need to focus on their leader, a boarman, and an elite warrior from the Black Boar clan. He’s a 4th level and highly vulnerable to magic attacks. Moreover, he has a team of 100 boarman under his command. This team is their core strength. Besides this, there are no other threats," Xi Qianxue added.
"So our plan is simple, first, we’ll destroy their food storage," she said, and she pointed to a location on a simple map she had drawn.
"To better control the food supply, they didn’t put the storage within the camp. Instead, it’s located on high ground to the northwest. If an attack were to occur, the Boarman squad would inevitably arrive within ten minutes, which means we only have ten minutes," She explained.
"After burning the food storage, what’s the next step?" Du You continued to ask.
The other two didn’t question Xi Qianxue often. One was timid, and the other was an absolute follower.
Xi Qianxue pointed at the camp and explained, "There are a lot of people here, so they consume a lot of food daily. Once the food storage is destroyed, they will have to attack other bandit groups and villages for food, which will disperse their forces. We can slowly thin out their strength from the outside."
Du You nodded, understanding that this was a plan to destroy the enemy one by one. Once the elite Boarman Warriors were almost wiped out, handling the rest would be easier.
"I got it. When do we start?" Du You asked Xi Qianxue.
"Let’s rest first. We’ll move at dawn. During that time, we might be able to stretch our window from ten minutes to fifteen, maybe even twenty," Xi Qianxue suggested, to which Du You directly agreed with. Thɪs chapter is updated by 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡⁂𝔣𝔦𝔯𝔢⁂𝘯𝘦𝘵
And so, they all began to rest. With their levels and Law formalized bodies, by dawn, they would be fully recovered from the exhaustion of traveling all day.
"Let’s go. Prepare to leave," Xi Qianxue woke everyone up. Du You lagged behind the team as they departed for the food storage, taking advantage of the time when people were most fatigued at dawn.
"This is the place. Prepare to act," Xi Qianxue commanded. Lan Xiaodie and Daniu each took out a bottle of kerosene. It appeared that they had come prepared. These kerosene bottles were obviously manufactured in reality and not counted as equipment. In order to bring them in, they had actually used traditional methods to produce the kerosene, which could be imported into most worlds.
Although it might not be of much use in battle, it was certainly helpful for sabotage.
Du You rolled his eyes, "I’ll use this." After five seconds of preparation, Du You released a Mucus Swamp, engulfing a large area of the food storage. "Poison destruction, it’s also pretty good."
Du You’s poison had slight corrosive properties, which might not be very effective on enemies,
but on food, that was a different story. Even if the slime dispersed, food that had been corroded by the poison still couldn’t be eaten because the food had spoiled. This method of destruction was more covert and not easy to detect.
Xi Qianxue nodded at the two others, who then dispersed and started to throw the bottles of kerosene, and a fire begun to spread.
Xi Qianxue pointed her magic staff forward and her ’Fire Spark’ skill was activated. Numerous sparks appeared out of thin air. With a ’bang’, several of the food storage buildings erupted into flames. Du You looked on, frozen in surprise.
The flames were ignited from the Mucus Swamp he had released. "So, this stuff can be burned," Du You widened his eyes in amazement. He had just burned his own Mucus Swamp.
"So it’s possible that Scarface back then wasn’t trying to take me down with him," Du You thought back to his time in Dinosaur World, and how Scarface had used a drastic tactic in his last moments. Perhaps, that was just a Fire-attribute magic scroll meant to attack Du You and create an opportunity for himself to escape. But the scroll had ignited the Mucus Swamp, incinerating Scarface and increasing the burn damage, leading Du You to believe that Scarface was trying to die with him.
What an unfortunate guy, Du You thought, suddenly feeling some pity for him.
"What is this skill? It releases a wide range of poison fog while burning," Xi Qianxue’s eyes sparkled as she looked at the almost colorless poison fog in the dark night. Du You was taken aback, only now noticing these things.
