Chapter 109: Chapter 109
Although the attack power of the Cursed Crow King was still not very strong, after a shower of arrows, he managed to kill three mountain bandits on the spot. The others were all injured, many in severe and bleeding conditions.
It seemed that if the Cursed Crow King continued to improve, he would become a handy cleaner of small enemies.
By the time Du You rushed over, there were less than ten of the mountain bandits left alive, and all were wounded. Confused, Du You simply charged forth.
In order to save magic power, he didn’t even use a spell. He pulled out his Brave Warrior sword and, in tandem with the two birds, began slaughtering.
A moment later, all of the enemies were slain by Du You alone, with not a drop of fresh blood smeared on him. Casually shaking off the blood from his sword, Du You nodded: "Well done, move over there and prepare an ambush. I’m starting a fire."
Du You dispatched the two birds to the ambush site, then swiftly set to work around them. He piled up kindling, sprinkled some lamp oil, then ignited it with a burst of fire.
After setting the fire, Du You immediately dashed toward his prepared trap.
Xiaozi was hovering in the air, using the tree canopy to hide her figure, ready to strike at any time. The Cursed Crow King, on the other hand, stood still on top of the tree canopy. His all-black figure made it hard for anyone to spot him.
By the time Du You ran over, dense smoke was already billowing behind him. Although the fire hadn’t fully ignited, it was almost there.
Of course, the people at the mountain stronghold noticed such a large disturbance right away.
"Boss, we’re in trouble, it seems like a fire has started on the northern side of the stronghold, it’s getting bigger."
"Boss Tuo Ya Si, what should we do? If it starts to burn, it will attract the attention of the patrol teams." Exactly, this was the most troublesome thing. They had to put out the fire immediately, otherwise, if they attracted the patrol team, it wouldn’t end well.
Tuo Ya Si loudly said, "Send people to put out the fire, no, I will go myself. There must be an attack with a premeditated plan this time. Damn it, I don’t know which blind bastard is doing it, but don’t let me catch them."
Tuo Ya Si put on his helmet, took his heavy sword and shield, and called his men to head towards the gate of the stronghold. But what they didn’t know was that two pairs of eyes were watching them at the gateway of the stronghold.
Being mountain bandits in the stronghold for so long had made them lose much of their vigilance. Besides, they didn’t think that somebody would use this method to deal with them. This was a losing proposition. If there were many people, it would be hard to fight, but if there were few, they would be no match for them given their chosen terrain.
"Boss, they have left, should we make a move?"
"Wait a bit, let them get farther away. Good, we are lucky this time. A total of thirty-five people have left, and only fifteen remain in the stronghold. We must hurry, and we might be able to kill them all."
With such a good effect, the boss felt relieved.
"I don’t know if Duo can hold up, there are thirty-five people."
Lao Er could tell from their marching formation that these people were definitely soldiers, regular army, not ordinary mountain bandits. Mountain bandits wouldn’t maintain such a strict formation while walking.
"Trust Lao San, let’s take care of our own business and take some pressure off of him. Once we get the things, we will rush over to help."
"Help? If Lao San ran away, wouldn’t we be walking into a trap?"
The boss calmly said, "I don’t know what the situation is, but I know that Lao San wants to wipe out all these people. So, Lao San won’t leave, they must set a trap to ambush all these people."
Before Lao Er could ask again, the boss stood up and said, "Let’s go, it’s our turn to make a move."
Lao Er shut his mouth, ran ahead of the boss, and the two, one after the other, charged towards the stronghold.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" As soon as the two arrived, the soldier on the arrow tower spotted them. Unfortunately, all that met the soldier was a crossbow bolt.
The soldier’s eyes widened in shock; he hadn’t expected to be attacked. He tried to ring the alarm bell, but he had no strength left. The arrow bolt had a kind of toxin that made his whole body numb and unresponsive.
"Even regular soldiers are fragile without their armor." The boss indifferently put away his hand crossbow.
On the other hand, Lao Er didn’t hesitate to charge forward, unleashing his Dou Qi. The two mountain bandits that rushed over didn’t last more than two moves in Lao Er’s hands. Thɪs chapter is updated by 𝗇𝗈𝗏𝖾𝗅•𝖿𝗂𝗋𝖾•𝗇𝖾𝗍
"The enemy’s attacking, someone’s broken in." A mountain bandit shouted loudly.
By now, the remaining people in the stronghold knew that the camp had been attacked. The bandits hurriedly drew their weapons and began to surround them. "Boss, what do we do, we can’t handle so many people."
The boss took out his book and said nonchalantly, "As long as there are no experts."
With that, a page flew out of the book and landed on the ground. Instantly, ten figures emerged from the shadows on the ground. These were strawmen, not ordinary ones, but those that could move and attack.
Each of the ten strawmen had extremely sharp claws. Caught off guard, several men were scratched by the strawmen.
"Ha ha, boss you have this trick up your sleeve, that’s great. As long as people block, they’re no match for me." Lao Er wielded his axe, creating a strong wind. He hid behind the straw men whenever in danger, then took the opportunity to attack. After each attack, more and more mountain bandits fell around him.
By the time the bandits realized something was wrong, only a few were left.
"Run, these two are not mountain bandits." Unfortunately, they found out too late. The boss held a hand crossbow, his bolts chasing after them, while Lao Er blocked the gateway, not letting anyone slip away.
Within a few minutes, the last person in the stronghold fell. Without saying a word, the boss, followed by Lao Er, rushed towards the warehouse. The location of the warehouse was already etched in the boss’s memory.
"This is it. Good, we’ve found it." The boss adeptly pushed away several large water jars, then knocked on the ground to quickly locate a secret compartment. Inside, there was a box. Inside the box were copies of the trading ledgers between Wood Shield City and the Beastmen, as well as letters exchanged between the two parties.
With this, there was sufficient evidence of the trade between Wood Shield City and the Beastman City. Although they could not make Wood Shield City pay for their actions, they could definitely create chaos for them through public opinion.
Most importantly, they could alert the commanders on the side of Border City to prepare in advance.
