Chapter 1077: Chapter 1077
"This city’s strength is probably not simple; we should bypass it," Lin Yucha said cautiously as she looked at the information on the screen. This was not a normal Mother Nest, but a human Undead Mage.
"Look, there are many tier four presences near the city. Although I haven’t seen any tier five, I can’t be certain there aren’t any. It’s not easy for Undead Mages to create Undead Creatures of the same rank, so they wouldn’t let them wander around. The biggest possibility is that tier five Undead are hidden, and we simply can’t match them."
Undead Mages didn’t have the kind of wide-ranging psychic attacks that a Mother Nest did, but they had many other strategies to guard against.
However, Du You’s eyes flickered, thinking of something, "Perhaps, we can test the waters; we might not necessarily lose. As long as we are well-prepared, even if we can’t win, we can still escape."
This wasn’t their first time testing against tier five, so Du You was quite confident.
"What do you mean? We can’t win against tier five," Lin Yushi also started to worry.
"Firstly, the Undead Mages here are natives; it’s impossible for locals to join them, and even if some did, they definitely wouldn’t be many. Plus, gaining their trust would likely be very difficult," Du You pondered and said.
"That’s true, after all, this world hasn’t been discovered for long, and our college hasn’t found signs of other people existing. Moreover, there’s no unified organization in this world; people don’t trust each other, especially these Undead Mages."
"Then it should be easy to handle. The Undead Mages in this world are limited by its special environment, mostly controlling and modifying Undead Creatures, right?"
"Right, but how does that help us? We’re still no match for powerful tier five."
Du You smiled, "Here lies a significant issue. All summoning professions try to compensate for their weaknesses, just like us Professionals, but the natives of this world have not compensated; they just let it be."
Du You continued, "This indicates that their strength is insufficient, not just in combat but likely also in defense and escape capabilities. As long as they can’t find us and are continuously besieged, when they don’t have the advantage in numbers, they will eventually be worn down."
"What you mean is..." Lin Yucha seemed to grasp something, and Lin Yushi also appeared thoughtful.
"Exactly, that’s what I mean. We’re just testing it out; it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t succeed. As long as we hide well, we don’t have to worry about what will happen."
"Alright then, we can try, but we must not engage personally." The pressure from this City of the Dead was too great for Lin Yucha, and neither did Du You want to face danger himself.
"Alright, Yu Shi, first hide all these Demon Extermination Spirits, and have them charge only when needed. We should stay as far from the battlefield as possible." These Demon Extermination Spirits had not traveled very far and had been following them. If they got any closer, they might be discovered.
Du You and the two sisters silently approached the city. When they got close enough, the city appeared even more magnificent.
As Du You surveyed the surroundings, there were some rotting bodies on the ground. He wondered if they were too insignificant for the Undead, or if they had died at the hands of the Undead, who simply hadn’t bothered to collect them.
The closer they got, the more desolate the surroundings became, making Du You feel like he was truly facing the world of Undead life.
"There are plenty of zombies here; good, this spot will do." Du You saw many active zombies, or zombie-like Undead, even some large ones, which were perfect materials.
Silently, Du You released a dark Beetle and then stealthily retreated. After getting far away, he finally met up with the other two. "Master, over here," Lin Yushi waved to Du You from inside a small cave.
"Good spot, we’ll hide here. But to avoid being detected, you two must stop watching,"
Even in the cave, Lin Yucha deployed an invisibility cloak to hide all traces. Du You even refrained from letting the two keep using the wristwatch to view images, merely using the Photon Elf himself to check.
The two sisters felt somewhat dejected, silently wishing that the wristwatch could be linked to the panel. Unable to see anything, Du You could only relay messages through the panel, and that was the only way they could know what was happening, which was quite distressing.
Initially, the outbreak of dark Beetles caused no disturbances. As the Beetles continued to devour the corpses on the ground, their numbers grew. Then, some Beetles began attacking the zombies.
But the zombies didn’t respond at all; Undead Creatures don’t feel and don’t despise insects, only obeying their master’s commands. That’s all there is to it.
The insects were gnawing at the Undead, and these Undead felt nothing until they were completely consumed. Other Undead only wondered why their fellows were dying. However, only higher-tier, at least tier four Undead, have some degree of autonomous thought. Lower-tier Undead have even less intelligence than low-tier demons.
But the tier four and above Undead were all inside the city. They had no idea what was happening outside. And even if they knew, these artificially created tier four Undead might not necessarily be any smarter.
Some tier four Undead had intelligence comparable to humans, but others were like fools. This was the case with these artificially created Undead; not one was intelligent. This update ıs available on 𝓷𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓵⟡𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓮⟡𝓷𝓮𝓽
Gradually, the number of Beetles outside grew, and many Beetles began to mutate. The mutated Beetles gathered in a hidden place outside the city, a location Du You had previously selected for the Beetles.
Before long, the queen Beetle appeared, and then, it began to spit out more and more Beetles. As the size of the Beetles increased, they were no longer limited to devouring nearby zombies. Instead, following Du You’s previous command, they spread around the city, gradually enclosing it.
If seen from above, it would appear as if a vast black fog had enveloped the city, incredibly mysterious and magnificent, yet the Undead Mages inside the city had not noticed this change.
