Chapter 39: Chapter 39

Hazel

When I walked out of the room, it was already 7:05 pm. Liam said, “Let’s go, Your Highness is waiting for you.” We took the elevator and headed downstairs, together. Liam was holding my hand for protecting me from falling as the black pencil heel which Galaxy selected for me was extremely high. Exactly opposite the entrance, I saw Xander was standing, leaning against the white Mercedes Maybach. He was dressed in a slim-fit tuxedo with a black lapel that suited him elegantly, enhancing his alpha aura. My heart started beating fast and instantly my cheeks turned red when our gaze met with each other. I smiled at him slyly, biting my lower lips. I noticed the admiration in his eyes. He was staring at me as if he was looking at the most precious wealth in the world.

He offered his hand and asked with a charming smile on his lip, “Are you ready, my love?” I nodded my head and holding his hand, replied, “Yes.” He squeezed my hand firmly and replied, “Let’s go then.” He opened the door of the back seat for me and then we both entered the car. Liam wished with his usual broad smile, “Best of luck, Your Highness.” The driver started the car. Leaving the apartment behind, the driver accelerated the car. I looked at Xander and found he was still staring at me. I smiled slyly and asked, “Am I looking awkward? Why are you staring at me like this?” “I am staring at you because I cannot look away from you. You are so beautiful, just perfect. I am really lucky that I have mated with you,” he whispered near my ear, pulling me closer to him. The journey was a little long, but with Xander it was nothing. When the car stopped I noticed that we were in Fairbanks but I couldn’t recognize the place as it was my first time in Fairbanks. I was about to open the door when Xander grabbed my wrist and murmured in his magnetic voice, “Be patient, my love.” I saw in his other hand, there was a black satin ribbon. He whispered again, “Let me surprise you. I want to blindfold your eyes. Do you trust me, my love?” I smiled and closed my eyes, I replied affirmatively, “Umm-hmm. More than myself.” A cool cloth touched my face and covered my eyes. Xander helped me to get out of the car. Stepping carefully, I walked, led by Xander. The soundscape changed. I could guess that we were in a hall or something like it. The floor was flat, I could hear the footsteps echoing, followed by the sound of the elevator. With a light push, we lifted. After a few more seconds, I heard the mechanical sound of the door opening and Xander led me out of the elevator. Xander picked up me in his strong arms and I was held the rest of the way up. My feet touched a hard surface. A fresh cold breeze brushed at my hair and Xander removed the blindfold from my eyes. There was something majestic and very intimate about it, at the same time- beauty with a somehow personal touch. I stood on the edge of the roof of one of the tallest skyscrapers in the city. I glanced at the city under me, which had a panoramic view of the surroundings. The city lights dazzled like the galaxy of stars in the constellation above. The huge colorful neon signs and the hoardings were glowing, beaming catchy messages. The yellow and the blue halogen streetlights, with cars and two-wheelers racing underneath them, looked fascinating. It was an open space were above my head was a never-ending dark sky like a velvet-black dome adorned with diamonds of stars and under my feet, the city night stretched, generously layered with multicolor luminous dots. I involuntarily sighed. A gust of wind hit my face. I looked away from the fascinating spectacle and murmured, “Thank you, Xander. It is just amazing.” Xander was beside me, ready to catch me- to protect me from any awkward step and falling. There was a table, with dinner already served. Beside it, about forty steps away, a violinist was playing something soft and romantic. He whispered, “Do you like it? I think you like soft music so I have arranged this one.” I replied with a bright smile, “It’s incredible. I feel very special.” A glimpse of satisfaction flashed in the eyes of Xander. “It should be like that. I can do anything for you. Let’s have a seat.” I sat at the table and the delicious smells of dishes wafted into my nostrils. There was no waiter around us. Xander explained, after taking his seat, “I didn’t get a waiter. I didn’t want to deny myself the pleasure to care for you.” Then he filled both of our glasses with some red wine. With a shy smile, I replied, “Umm. Thank you. I am flattered. It is the best evening of my life.” Gourmet food pleasantly teased my taste buds and the wine was relaxing, making the conversation very easy and pleasant. We both ate almost silently. Xander was continuously staring at me with his charming smile. I wanted to say many things but at that moment, I couldn’t able to say anything. I murmured looking at him, “You are looking more handsome in this tuxedo.” “I am glad that my queen like it,” winking at me, he replied.

The music floating in the air, mixed in with the cold breeze. Xander asked, “Can I have this dance?” I murmured, “With pleasure.” He reached out his hand. He delicately, but firmly took my hands, taking a firm tango starting position. From the first notes, passion blended into music. Led by Xander, I lost myself in the dance. He melted, changed shapes, shifting with the melody. Another step and I arched, obeying the flow of his arms. I felt his strong masculinity with every dance move. The dizzying dance was exciting as a secret for only the two of them to share. Xander impulsively pulled me towards him and kissed me. It was a long passionate kiss. After kissing, when I looked at him, I saw his lips were stained with my red lipstick. I raised my fingers to wipe them. It was already late night. Though the city was awake the darkness started to engulf the surroundings. Xander grabbed my wrist and dragging me with him, whispered, “Come with me.” He led me to the opposite side of the building. It was darker than the front side. The view from there was different. From there I could see the snow-capped mountains and the sea, kissing each other. The sky was looking immensely beautiful there and the sky was enlightened with northern lights, almost like clouds and milky white. I looked at Xander and asked, “Is it northern aurora?” “Yes. You want to see it?”

He asked nonchalantly. I replied in excitement, “Of course, but I have heard we need scientific equipment to see the show as the skies are too light to see the show.” “Not at all. We can see it easily in our naked eyes, but we have to wait for a little longer,” he explained. But surprisingly, we didn’t need to wait long. Soon I saw the lights of different colors, covered up to half of the sky. It was too beautiful to look away. Xander was also looking at the sky, hugging me from behind. After spending a few minutes, he whispered near my ear, “Do you like the date, my love?” “Yes. It is amazing. I am overwhelmed and the surroundings are very beautiful,” I exclaimed. He chuckled softly and his breath was creating a tingling sensation near my neck. I asked him, “Xander, can I ask you something?” Still hugging me from behind, he whispered near my ear, “You can ask anything.” After a little hesitation, I asked, “What about your alliance with the vampire? Are you not going to attack the Underworld soon?” I knew it was not the right moment to discuss such a complicated matter but I wanted to know badly.
