Chapter 40: Chapter 40
"Sir," Falcon greeted as he guided September inside the MBC building.
MBC Bank and Finance is one of the newest toy September had set his eyes on. The company ain't that strong anymore from all the corruption from the inside but it wasn't that weak either since it already built a great reputation with the public.
"How is it?" He asked his butler as they entered the lift. They were on the way to the CEO's office to collect some debt from the current acting officer.
It was said that the acting CEO of the company was in no way connected to the actual owners and thus, was only hired to manage the business. Too bad, he turned a good fortune making company into a place filled with corruption and scandals.
Whoever hired that person was truly stupid!
He had seen the guy's file and oh boy! How could someone hire a person with a history of scamming people as a CEO of a big company? Not to mention in the field where the hard earned money of their clients were entrusted to them?
"You made sure he's around? I don't want to waste any of my time here,"
"Yes, sir. I checked just a few moments before your arrival. Mr. Reid is on his office." Falcon answered confidently.
The CEO's office was located at the top floor of the ten-storey building. When they arrived at their destination, both of them halted as soon as the elevator's door opened.
They looked around the whole floor only to see papers flying around and more papers scattered on the ground. The employees were gathered at one side while Mr. Reid was visibly trembling in a front of a woman with a stoic face.
The woman looks young, probably just on her late twenties or early thirties. She was wearing a pair of an eye-catching bright red tux and red heels. Her hair was brushed back in a neat way.
Her presence screams trouble as she stared down at the older man in front of her, hands on each side of her waist.
The whole floor was eerily quiet. The staffs watching at one side had their lips parted as they watched the scene unfold. It was just an innocent inquiry earlier. How can everything turned out like this?
"How dare you ruin the company my mother left for me?!" Her cold voice echoed in the quiet hallways.
The people who were just watching even felt the hair on their napes stand as soon as they heard her spoke.
Mr. Reid was just staring at her, failing miserable in trying to masked the fear as he meet with the eyes of the young heiress.
A shriek of panic was heard from the crowd when Mr. Reid was send flying just below their feet.
"You were hired to keep this business going and not to pull this down." The woman said as she crouched in front of Mr. Reid and grabbed him by his collar.
"Look at me!" Mr. Reid moved to look up at the pretty lady.
"Make sure I'd never see this sickening face of yours again," she said before she let go of the man who immediately ran off, almost bumping September but Falcon was quick enough to pull his boss away.
When he looked up to attempt to talk to him, he saw him staring at the woman who was now talking to the other employees.
"What's her name?" He asked.
Falcon paused for a bit, not sure what his boss meant.
"That woman? What's her name?" September asked once again, his eyes watching the woman's every move.
Falcon's eyes went to look at the woman once again.
"If I'm not mistaken, she was Maeve Miller, the daughter of the founder of this company. But what was she doing here? She's supposed to be overseas,"
Just when Falcon finished mumbling to himself he realized that his boss had already walked forward.
"And you are?" The woman asked him with her brows shot up.
"September Thorne," Maeve creased her forehead before she gave one of the employees a sideway glance.
"Who is he?" Falcon's steps halted when he heard her asked that.
But September had a different expression. The corner of his lips rose in amusement as he stared at the woman face to face. She was staring at him like she was deciphering him.
"Who is this guy?" She asked, not bothering to hide the irritation in her voice.
"S-september--"
"He just said his name. Do you think I'm stupid?" The employee who just answered tightly clamped her hands over her mouth to stop herself from speaking.
Maeve rolled her eyes before she turned back her attention to the guy standing in front of her. And then she remembered the attorney's words about a certain Mr. Thorne eyeing the company.
So this is this guy?
Her eyes went up and down his figure. Before she shook her head and turned to the CEO's office, startling everyone.
"Go back to work. Fix that mess." She ordered as she opened the glass door of the CEO's office and entered it. Leaving September, Falcon and the rest of the employees staring at the door dumbfounded.
"Did she just--" Falcon's words were cut off when they saw September entered the office as well.
The employees immediately scrambled to get their wits back together and started to clean up the mess made from the action-movie-like scene earlier.
Meanwhile, inside the CEO's office. Maeve has her arms folded in front of her as she was leaning on the table while having a stare off with September.
"You were that man, right?" She asked.
"What man?" He asked playfully.
"The man who wanted this company," she answered with a smirk on her face.
"So what if I am?" He asked, challenging the woman in front of her.
Maeve chuckled humorlessly before she took a few steps towards him and acted like she was fixing his necktie.
September doesn't usually let people get near him but there's something about this woman that draws him near. He let her do what she was doing. She tightened his tie a bit and gently swipe off imaginary dust on his coat.
She then leaned a bit on his ears and whispered,
"Then go on and try me,"
And he suddenly remembered that, it was the moment his heart fell.
