Chapter 17: Chapter 17
It was the day for the anniversary celebration of the MBC Bank and Finance. The company is already a well-known and trusted company when it comes to finances but due to the poor management led by Mason Smith, the company suffered great losses.
But now that the company is now handled by Maeve Miller, the only daughter of the company's founder, Genevieve Miller, it is now back on its top spot in the industry.
The faces if well-known business people around the hall of the venue where the event was held was enough evidence to prove that MBC had really reclaimed it's place.
"Mr. Sy, it's nice to see you!"
"It's good to see you, too, Mr. Thomas." The old man greeted back courteously.
"The MBC surely got back to it's feet almost unscathed. Genevieve surely produced a top-grade heiress." Mr. Thomas started as he stared at the elegant looking stage in front of them.
"I heard September Thorne's coming tonight." A young businessman said, joining the conversation.
"September Thorne? You're really too young to know this industry, Philips. September Thorne never attend any events like this." Mr. Sy said followed smirking.
"That's true. Mr. Thorne is never fond of attendi---"
"Haven't you heard yet?" Philips asked, acting more of a gossip starter than a renowned businessman. All the men nearby stared at him curiously.
"September Thorne and Maeve Miller is an item." He said sounding so proud that he was the one to drop the bomb.
"That was all just groundless rumor, Philips!" Mr. Thomas butted in followed with the rest of the group seconding his sentiment.
"It wasn't groundless at all, my cousin works as Maeve Miller's secretary and she told me that she caught the two being cozy inside her office!" The young man insisted.
"Then, I think it's time for me to change my secretary?" Everyone froze when they heard a feminine voice behind Philips. Their eyes widened with fear and astonishment as they stare at the couple of big shots in front of them.
Philips saw the expression on the faces of his company and so he started to pale even without checking where that voice came from.
"I see. Maybe the party is getting too boring? Should we spiced it a bit, Mr. Philips Sons?" Philip gulped hard before he turned around slowly and faced the couple he was just talking about earlier.
September, dashing on his pair of black tux had his arms around Maeve Miller's waist. Her ethereal beauty that captivates the eyes of both men and women was even highlighted with her emerald green halter gown. Her long hair was in tied in a high ponytail while her strong and cold eyes stares at the group of men in front of her.
"Ms. Miller," Philips called out as he laced his nervousness with confidence.
"What do you think? Mr. Sons? Should we spice things up tonight?" Maeve asked in a taunting voice.
"Oh. The party's a blast already. There's no need to trouble you with more entertainment." Philips smoothly evaded as he steal curious glances towards the quiet man beside Maeve.
"Looks like you're very curious about my husband." Maeve pointed out which caused everyone's eyes to widened and for September's heart to waver.
He came to this party thinking that he would be the one to show off this beauty beside him but his wife decided to take the floor first. He can't help but stare at her side profile lovingly. And his gaze alone was enough to prove Maeve's words earlier.
"Oh. We haven't heard about the wedding. When did it happen?" Mr. Sy, the oldest on the group asked while his eyes subtly search both of the hands of the couple.
There was no ring.
His faced looks relaxed but his demeanor already screams his suspicions about the couple.
"Why would you even know about it? Do we have a close relationship?" September butted in. He was irritated as soon as he understand the conclusions running on the old man's mind. He was also scolding himself for not buying a ring for his wife.
Of all things to forget!
The group of business minded people immediately felt the tension and the once oblivious guests around started to noticed the small commotion.
"We're sorry for delaying the both of you." Mr. Thomas mediated which caused the tension to break down. But Maeve just have to play with them again.
"Oh. It's alright Mr. Thomas. My husband and I understand how curious some people are. I envy this people, guess they have lots of free time on their hands. While my husband and I can't even be gone for a day for our honeymoon," she said as her gaze was directed at Philips.
September didn't like the idea of his wife staring at another man so he leaned a bit towards her and whispered to her ears.
"Stop staring at him. I'm jealous." Maeve's attention was immediately directed to him. She has this amused look on her face which fascinated him even more.
Just how lucky is he to have this goddess as his wife? No one would know. He'll be the only man in his life now. Well, except if they'll have a son in the future.
September had grown in a wrecked family, so he never thought that the idea of starting up a family with his wife can give him unexplainable feelings.
"Seriously?" She asked, whispering back and was immediately followed with her sweet chuckles.
"Hmm. Let's just go up there and get this over with." He said, still whispering.
The people watching them felt so astounded as they watched two of the coldest big shots in the city acting all lovey-dovey in front of them.
It was indeed a rare sight for everyone.
It was one thing to have the great manipulator attend a celebration banquet but to actually see him acting affectionate was something no one had ever imagined to witness.
Maeve turned to the group of people watching her and her husband's interaction with pure curiosity, she smiled at them.
"I hope you enjoy the party and start talking about your own businesses instead. I'll appreciate that so much, right Mr. Sons?" She said, refusing to just let go of the rumor spreader.
"R-right." Philips answered terribly failing on stopping himself from stuttering.
"Good. Hope you all have a great night." She said smiling before she let September guide her away from the group.
