Chapter 34: Chapter 34
Rousing, I blink my eyes open searching around the private room in a...hospital? Machines plugged in and beeping at consistent seconds, blinking again feeling like I fell, died and resurrected after falling down from the heavens.
Is this how they fallen angels felt when they were thrown down from heaven?
"Hey? How are you feeling?" My eyes follows the voice landing on Ella who came closer to the bed, a weary look clouding her droopy eyes. Looking like she hasn't slept in the past forty
-eight hours.
Groaning. "What happened?" I sat up clutching my head moaning in pains.
"You fainted." Shit. It seems like I did more than a fainting. Shaking my head I look about the room then back at her watching me thoughtfully. I try to step down from the bed and walk, failing woefully.
"Fainted? Ugh, my head hurts." She rushes to push me to lay down. The machine went off like a haywire alarm, she hisses in disdain glaring as she forces me to lie down.
"Lay down." She admonishes, glaring at me. I chuckle through the pains watching her play mummy.
"Where are we?" Giving me a crazy look, she touches my forehead.
"Hospital obviously. Did you hit your head hard when you fainted?" Slapping her hands away, I see a faint smile on her face telling she is just teasing me.
"Go away." Huffing I look away, sulking. It got silent as I seem to relax back, the blaring sounds from the machines disrupting the silence of the room. Why did I faint? The rhetorical question pops in my head.
"You scared me. One moment we were talking, the next you snatched the bottle drinking from it and slam, you faint on me. Who does that?" Though stern, you could hear the faint scare laced in each word. Her face was fearful and I internally slapped myself for making her feel such way. It also scared me. Such incident has never occurred to me before.
"I don't even know what to say. Nor why I suddenly consumed such amount of alcohol which I haven't taken before." Sinking lower in the sheets I expel looking up to the white ceiling then back at her. Her hand covers mine, choking on a sob I blink the tear building in my eyes letting a heavy shudder rake me.
"Have you ever experienced such before?" Shaking my head furiously our eyes meet.
"Never had and definitely never will." She sighs giving a soft smile caressing my hand in hers.
"Well call the doctor and let's find out because I hate hospitals. Had a bad experience about it in the past." Her eyes went past me over the room absentmindedly. "Still freaks me out." My heart breaks at her words and i wish I could pry more to find out what happened to her. Her past. Everything about her. Making me realize what a shitty friend I have been to her; and she deserves more than I have given her.
"Oh! you are awake. Good." Our both heads snaps to the man walking through the doors with all smiles eyes darting between Ella and I. "She wouldn't leave your side for any second. A good sister you have here. Relentless." Ella made a scrunch up face at the doctor who burst out laughing, observing a faint smile on her lips. It made me feel more worse than I already am. My fear of trusting no one almost cost me a friend who I do not know anything about. I deserve the best friend of the year award.
"How long was I out?" Diverting the topic from my repentant heart taking his eyes off a grumpy Ella. He faces me plucking his notepad from his side going through it.
"Thirty six hours." I literally choked on my own saliva. That is enough for news to go to the wrong persons.
"What? That long?" I barked looking at Ella for confirmation. She nods solemnly.
"Yes. Hopefully you will get to stay away from alcohol from now on. You got brought into the hospital at the best time if not it would have been a different story we will be discussing now. We flushed it out of your system, luckily, the young bean is stronger than what I thought."
"Yeah. I am. Now can you discharge me, I have to be out of here." Not wasting more time than I already have, I stood up fighting off the hospital gown from my body.
"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! You are still recuperating from the excess amount of alcohol in your system Miss, and it is not you I was referring to. It is your baby I'm referring to." I pause in my steps, like a whiplash snapping my head to the doctor.
"Wh-what baby?" Dumbfounded, my mouth opens and closes gapping like a fish out of water. Probably out of air.
"You are pregnant." He smiles warmly at me. Looking down to my stomach, my hand flies to my mouth covering it from the deep sob threatening to break through.
My eyes meets Ella who looks at me like I lost it and then the doctor who looks confused about the situation; eyes flitting between Ella and I once again trying to read meaning to my scared look. "No, no, no, no, no." I shake my head vehemently. "I-it can't be." I fainted.
