Chapter 496: Chapter 496
"It’s okay," Kyle Kinston said, "besides, this time it was Daniel Harris who saved you. It’s only right for me to express my gratitude."
He handed her the pajamas, helping her change with utmost care and gentleness. When they returned to bed, he held her and said, "Alright, try to sleep a bit more. I’m here with you, even if you have another nightmare, I’m here."
"Okay." She closed her eyes, placing both hands on his chest, enveloped by his presence, which gave her a sense of safety.
And he, with a deep gaze, watched her sleeping face.
On one hand, he was relieved that Daniel Harris saved her; otherwise, she might have been in the intensive care unit instead of his embrace. Yet, on the other hand, he felt uneasy, fearing she might feel guilty towards Daniel and keep him on her mind, afraid of future troubles arising.
"Mabel, am I just being overly paranoid?" he murmured softly to her, "Clearly, you love me this much, what do I have to worry about?"
But why was his heart beating so frantically?
In the hospital’s intensive care unit, Daniel’s parents insisted on staying beside their son until he woke up. Suddenly, a low, hoarse groan, almost imperceptible, escaped from the person on the bed. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ novel⁂fire.net
Both of them were startled and quickly leaned closer, while the nurse on duty noticed the patient’s condition and hurried to call the doctor.
Daniel’s mother leaned near her son’s lips and finally heard him murmuring—"Mabel... Mabel..."
Hearing this, tears rolled down Daniel’s mother’s cheeks. This foolish child, at times , is still thinking about Mabel Quinn? Were those two months in Drumbeat Village with Mabel Quinn really that important?
"Don’t worry, Mabel Quinn is fine, she is safe and well," Daniel’s mother choked out.
Only then did Daniel Harris’s groans gradually cease. The doctor soon arrived and conducted some preliminary examinations on Daniel Harris, then said, "He’s awake now, but still needs a lot of rest. It’s best to wait for another 2 hours before feeding him. He can drink some water, but we’ll need detailed examinations to know the specifics."
"Doctor..." Daniel Harris’s consciousness was slowly returning, "What happened to my eyes?" Everything was pitch-black before him, a feeling so familiar. He could sense that his eyes were wrapped in bandages, it felt as though he was back to the beginning, seeing nothing.
"The explosion affected your eyes, the extent of the damage requires specific examination for clarity. But for now, unfortunately, you won’t be able to use your eyes for the time being," the doctor replied.
Daniel’s parents watched their son’s reaction anxiously, but Daniel remained composed, as if the injury was insignificant, "I understand."
After the doctor left, Daniel’s father hurriedly said, "Daniel, don’t worry. You were temporarily admitted to this hospital because of the explosion. Once your condition stabilizes in a couple of days, we’ll transfer you. I’ll find the top specialists domestically and overseas. Dad will find a way to restore your eyesight."
But Daniel seemed utterly unconcerned about his eyes, only asking, "What about Mabel Quinn? Is she really okay? Was she unharmed?"
