Chapter 39: Chapter 39
*David Pov*
"You are grasping things too fast. You can join our company after graduation and become successfully independent for sure." I commented when she finished the work I passed to her within a short time.
"If I join our company then how can I be independent?" she asked, shaking her head and Palak snorted hearing that question, but glanced away to concentrate on her own work I gave her.
"You have to join by your own and not through any connections." I pointed out and she gave a nod before glancing at me.
"Bhai! Mom is very independent in your eyes, right?" she asked, smiling and I know Mom is her role model from the time she was a kid.
"Yes! Even Palak is very independent. She used to live alone and care for herself everyday. Right now she has the ability to live by herself too, but for our sake, she is staying with us." I replied to which she rolled her eyes.
"I was just asking about Mom and you need not take it as a chance to praise Bhabhi. I already know she is capable of everything." She mumbled making me smile.
I glanced at Palak only to find her frowning while staring at both of us and started saying, "If not for everyone's help it would have been difficult to manage everything."
"It wouldn't have been impossible for sure and you would have managed somehow." I assured her and she didn't reply to that except for staring back at me still frowning.
"But..." Jasmine cut her off saying, "I can't believe you both are flirting right before me."
"What?" we both asked, glancing at her while she shook her head standing.
"I need to go and finish my work too, Bhai. Let's go and get your head washed." She mumbled and I nodded, standing up before walking into the Bhai's room to which I completely shifted and stepped into the washroom.
"Eww... I can't bear the smell from your head." She shifted away towards the door after pouring a mug of water on my head.
"That's why we asked you to go and visit a saloon who would have washed your head last week itself. Now, you shouldn't go even if you want to with this smell." She added covering her nose.
"It's just been three weeks." I mumbled frowning at her over dramatic expression, but she just shook her head before rushing out of the washroom.
I sighed, glancing at my hand that I shouldn't move right now before using my other hand to pour more water on my head before trying to press some shampoo into my hands but the bottle ended up falling down.
"Damn it!" I couldn't help but curse before placing it properly and again trying to get some of it into my hand and ended up moving my injured arm as I already got the sling removed before entering the washroom with Jasmine's help.
"I can't believe you are trying to move that hand already." I glanced up hearing her voice and found her standing near the door while frowning at my actions.
"What are you doing here?" I asked, frowning back and she sighed entering the washroom while taking the bottle away from my hand.
"What do you think? Jasmine started commenting about how she can't bear to stay in the same room as your smelly hair and if I want, I can help you otherwise you will do it by yourself." She explained without any expression and suddenly threw a mug of water on my head.
"Why do I feel like she wantedly made a scene just now for this result?" I frowned asking that question.
"You thought of that just now? I already felt it when she returned to the room without assisting you." She shook her head and dropped the shampoo on my head still standing a little away from me.
"You should have told her that there is nothing going on between us and she wouldn't disturb you like this." I mumbled closing my eyes waiting for her to start the process.
"You can do it by yourself." She mumbled, not stepping closer and I sighed, rubbing my head with my uninjured hand.
"It will be worse if I say that. Just imagine what she has already seen and I just say that it was nothing. She is still a teenager and it is not right for her to know such things and it is better if she just thinks we are flirting or having an affair or something rather than the thought that there is a casualty of that... that kissing without any feelings." She added and pushed my hand away before doing it by herself when my other hand is automatically shifting to join the task.
I smiled, ignoring the way she is pulling my hair after hearing those words. She really took this family as her own and caring for everyone without thinking much.
If everything had gone well that day then... I shook my head to remove those thoughts because I can just regret for my whole life but can't change anything.
After finishing the task, she walked out of the washroom without saying anything else while I finished my bath, trying my best to not cause anymore damage to myself.
I should definitely thank Jasmine for all the chances she is providing but then I don't want Palak to be forced to do something at the same time. I shook my head to finish the bath first and think about it later.

"The evidence will not be enough for a huge punishment? Is it possible to gather more evidence? I don't want him to get a chance to escape this time." I requested the respective official working on my case.
I sighed cutting the call and glanced up to stare at Mom who is frowning at me. She specifically wanted me to let her know everything without hiding anything from her and I am trying to follow her order as much as I can.
"Don't let her know." She mumbled, still frowning while holding Elisha tightly in her arms.
"I will not tell Palak." I assured her and we both turned hearing her footsteps while commenting, "Not going to tell what?"
Mom and I stared at her without saying anything and she paused after glancing at out expressions. After that, she sighed, walking closer before forwarding her hands to Elisha as it is her bed time already.
"I should have knocked on the door." She mumbled holding Elisha and started leaving the room while Mom and I couldn't say anything after realizing she just misunderstood us.
"Don't worry! I will talk to her tomorrow." Mom left after seeing my worried expression.
Tomorrow? We have to make her sleep with this misunderstanding and not clear it until tomorrow? I shook my head before pacing for a while and finally stepped out of the room with a decision.
Making sure everyone already returned to their room, I stepped closer to her room and paused for a second, realizing I am really acting like her secret lover.
"What is it? Do you want Jasmine to misunderstand again?" she asked, frowning after I knocked on her door.
"Did I wake you up?" to which she calmly replied in negative.
"Is Elisha awake?" again with the same reply.
"Can I talk to you?" why is she giving the same reply and that too using a single word, "No!"
"I need to talk to you." Saying that I took a step into the room, ignoring her frown and found Elisha sleeping peacefully.
She sat down on the bed while staring at me and I cleared my throat before pulling a chair closer to her and sat down right in front of her.
"We were not distancing you, Palak." I started, but she shook her head hearing my words.
"I was being childish. I don't even know why I reacted like that." She mumbled and this time I took hold of her hands she placed on her lap.
"It was not at all childish. It's just we both didn't want you to feel hurt because of the news we just got. There... there was a discovery of evidence today and it shows Prakash to be the culprit behind this accident but it is not completely enough for his legal punishment and are searching for more." I explained and she stiffened realizing what is this about before pulling her hands away from my hold before shifting back on the bed to leave more space between us.
"Thank you! You can go to your room." She mumbled after staring at her hands for a few seconds.
"Didn't I tell you that he is not your family in my eyes?" I asked, sitting on the bed and took hold of her hands again to stop her thinking much about it.
"I... I called my Dad last week about this accident. He was... was so sure that his son would never do that as the first accident was a mistake and not intentional. Do you know that I actually believed him at least unintentionally?" she asked, looking at me and I can see traces of tears forming in her eyes.
"Palak! I played with your heart in the beginning." She frowned when I mumbled those words.
"I broke your heart and trust completely. I made you go through difficult moments alone while you had to take difficult decisions. I don't think you have met anyone who is worst than me." I added and this time she gave a confused look.
"What are you trying to say?" she asked and I gave her a smile.
"I am such person in your life and definitely don't deserve to see you tearing up. So, you better cry after I am away from your presence." Hearing my words she took her hands back before clearing the tears that just slipped.
"Then leave my room." She ordered, pointing the door, but I shook my head before folding my legs on the bed and sitting right before her comfortably.
"I suddenly don't want to leave this room. But don't worry, you will have time to cry the moment I leave." I assured her and stared at me with her mouth open.
"There are so many things you shouldn't do before the person like me. You shouldn't feel guilty no matter what happens to me or show your sorrow because I am the one to hurt you the most and the one you hate the most." I added smiling and she got an understanding look covering her face.
"You should always show your strength before me and always smile which is like a victory against me." I continued to talk whatever that is coming into my head so that she doesn't feel guilty or cry for a waste person like Prakash.
"Wasn't I good to make you remember what type of person I was in your life? Otherwise, you would have let me see those tears and that is not a good thing for you. You should never show weakness before the person that is the villain in your life." I explained and suddenly felt her palm touching my cheek.
I stiffened for a thought thinking she was trying to slap me and closed my eyes, but I had to stop breathing when she just caressed it for a second.
However, the moment I opened them she already took away her hand while clearing her throat, saying, "I will definitely follow the rules that you just uttered."
With those words she gave a small smile which is genuine no matter how much I think it is not and my hands moved on their own to hold her, but she pushed them away saying, "The villain in my life can leave my room now."
"Fine! But Dr. Rohit is not the hero in your life or that's what I wish." Saying that I rushed out of her room before she can scold me for that.
However, before the door got completely closed I heard a chuckle from her room which could be my imagination or something.
*Palak Pov*
I covered my mouth the moment I let out the chuckle. He wouldn't have been able to hear that, right? I hope not, otherwise... otherwise what?
I don't know what came over me because one moment I was ready to really cry my eyes out feeling guilty and disappointed in both my Dad and brother, but the next moment I was caressing his cheek and smiling at him and even chuckling.
All this time I was talking about how I don't want his presence in my life while today's actions from me definitely speaks something else making him confused. Why am I even thinking about what he will think?
It's better to just sleep and not think about anything else like he said. I mean like I should and concentrate on my work and Eli and... and this family. With that thought I closed my eyes to drift off into sleep before thinking how I am really not crying right now.
"What?" I asked, frowning at three of them thinking they must have really got crazy or their craziness just increased more.
"You all want me to take over the power of operating that hospital... that... I am just an employee and I don't have any prospects or desire to deal with anything other than my work." I pointed out but he just shook his head.
"You already told me that you will have an easy time with medical field related work. Bhai used to take care of everything and in our family only, you will be best for this position. There is not much to do except to make sure they all follow everything as usual and make changes if you feel like it. Isn't this better than the work you have to do for the company?" he asked frowning but I shook my head.
"James said I can't let go of the work and make others do it." I pointed out the rules.
"If you take care of hospital work, then I will manage yours. He said that family members can help you right." He pointed back.
"Don't think much about it, Palak. Dr. Harsha is ready to help you and you already know the workings more than us." Aunty joined him.
"I don't want to see you struggle every day, even with the easy points, Bhabhi." Aunty immediately hit her shoulder hearing those words while I smiled glancing down.
"I... I will think about it." I mumbled and they all sighed in relief.
James! They care for me too much just like you predicted. If not for you maybe I wouldn't have been able to experience this.
And no matter how much I pushed them away, they always tried to break down those barriers and I... I don't think I can raise them anymore with the limited strength and heart I have right now towards the barriers.
Maybe... maybe this applies to even that person. It is not wrong to think like that, right? Every day I was just waiting for him to break the promise he made, but now... now I don't know what I am expecting from him.
****
"Party? You just got cured and starting to use that hand normally and you want to go to a party?" Aunty asked frowning at him.
"He is our recent and important client, Mom. I need to attend this no matter what." He explaining finishing his dinner.
"You are still taking medication and it is not right to attend any party." She stated while he frowned at her.
"Mom! You don't know how many parties I attended and you will never know." He mumbled, standing up but she just shook her head.
"That was before and this is now. You need to take someone with you. Your assistant is recent one and you can't take either Jasmine or me. So, just sit at home." She added, leaving the room while he stared at her back in shock.
I shook my head while trying to stop myself from smiling too. He is like a teenager asking for permission to go for party while she is completely against it.
"You were supposed to be the most popular racer once upon a time and now can't even attend a company party." I chuckled hearing those words from Jasmine and immediately stopped myself.
She is definitely a mood and knows where to push the buttons. Is she the one I thought to be completely innocent girl? I think she is a devil in disguise for sure and I hope she can teach Eli too.
"Palak! I really need to attend this as our shareholders will be present too. You already saw them trying to question my every move during the meetings. They are waiting for me to make a mistake and ready to push me away." He mumbled pleading me.
"What should I do?" I asked him frowning.
"Become my guardian for the third time and attend this party with me. Mom will be assured that I will take care of myself." He replied and I stared at him in shock.
"Third time?" Jasmine asked curiously like waiting for new information between us.
"No need to know about the life of once upon a time famous racer." He mumbled while she scowled at him.
I stared at them thinking about my decision to handle the hospital work like they asked me to. If I attend this then will I get more exposure and know more things?
"Don't pressure her like that." Aunty warned after hearing the conversation.
"Aunty! If I go then will it be too much work to take care of Eli? As it is a night party and we may return after her bed time." I asked and she stared at me in shock.
"You want to go with him?" she asked and I gave her a nod.
"He is really right about how he has to make sure not give any chance for them to point at him. James tried his best to make them accept him and even after he conducted everything properly, they are being really stubborn. It is better if we go and attend this." I explained and she sighed listening to my words.
"Fine! But you both need to be really careful." She mumbled and I gave her a nod without any hesitation.
"I love you, Palak." He suddenly whispered when I opened the door after hearing the knock on it.
"I did it to get some exposure about everything and not for you." I mumbled frowning.
"Maybe, but I wanted to say it right that time. But I didn't want to shock Mom." He explained before walking away and I closed the door feeling daze.
****
"You remember to not drink anything because of your medication?" I asked staring outside the car.
"Not a drop?" he asked back, reaching the venue.
"Just a glass is fine for formalities, but not more than that." I replied, glancing at the house we reached and it is supposed to be the house of the client he got into a deal recently after which he got into the accident.
"He recently purchased this house as he just shifted to Mumbai. If you feel a loss of what to say then just ask something about the house and it will be fine. This is kind of a house warming party." He explained when we both started walking to the entrance along with a few guests.
I gave him a nod before placing my hand on his elbow before stepping into the house. After that we were able to meet a few known faces together, but he had to leave my side when I met one of the hospital directors and he started a conversation remembering me from the hospital.
I continued to glance at him in the intervals and found him holding nothing in his hands like I asked him to and I turned away only to pause finding Dad and my brother standing a few feet away from me.
They both glanced at me, but I turned away not knowing how to even react to their presence. Somehow I was able to go with the flow and talk to many as a few were a part of the hospital and it was really helpful.
After a few minutes I turned to glance at him, but found him holding a glass of champagne, but he met my eyes while pointing out one finger.
"Why is David Mattew suddenly stuttering?" I frowned hearing those words.
"He said he got a headache, right? That must be the reason." I immediately turned around to search for him and found him leaning on the wall with his hands on the window.
I excused myself before rushing towards him asking, "What happened?"
"I don't know! I am feeling diz... dizzy. I just drank one glass b...but..." he couldn't even finish those words and I immediately took the glass from his hands.
I definitely didn't make a mistake by saying he can drink one glass and this will be not the effect and that too this fast reaction no matter what.
I glanced around to ask for help but only met my brother's stare who is smirking at us and at present with the client and a few important shareholders.
"Palak!" he grinned in a worse state and I know if they see him like this everything will go wrong.
Is this because of my brother? Dru... drugged? Is he trying to take revenge with what happened at the church using the same strategy by involving the shareholders?
I... I will not let that happen no matter what and will definitely not make myself feel any more guilt. With that thought I took hold of his hand before trying to pass everyone and step out of the building before anyone can find him.
I can call someone for help in the mean time, but I have to hide him first. When we stepped out of the building, I walked closer to the garden and found a small shed which is not locked.
"Where... are we going, Palak? Our home? Are we... going home, my dear Palak?" he whined making me groan.
"Yes! We are going home." I whispered while planning to ill my brother the moment I see him again.
After closing the door behind us and locking the door, I immediately took out my phone but didn't know whom to call. Taking a deep breath I called the one who will be more useful than anyone else in this situation.
I sighed in relief when he picked up the call and I relayed everything to him while giving him the instructions before calling Chief who is the second best right now.
"I am sleepyyyyy." He whined when I cut the call and I turned to see him sitting on the floor while frowning at me.
"Wait for sometime and we can go home." I mumbled, looking around but found nothing useful except for the equipment for gardening.
"Pillow! I need to... get my pillow." He mumbled, standing up, but immediately fell down because of his own leg.
"Wait!" I shouted not wishing for him to get hurt in this situation.
I sat down before him before calmly explaining, "Everything will be fine, but we need to make sure you will not get any setbacks because of this. So, we have to wait for sometime."
How I wish I was capable enough to drive us both from this place and I can't even call for a cab risking someone finding him.
"I am sleepyyy." He whined again before laying down and started asking for pillow raising his voice.
"Shh...! Here is your pillow." I mumbled lying down before placing my hand under his head and he immediately, shifting closer to me while I turned my body away to put up some distance between our bodies.
"It's nice! I love this pillow." He whispered, snuggling closer.
"If I had not seen my brother's smirk, then I would have definitely thought that he is acting right now." I whispered to myself and he snuggled more before drifting off into sleep.
After some time I shifted a little when I got a call informing that everything went well and there were no mistakes with the plan I made.
"Palak!" he whispered, opening his eyes when I cut the call.
"What?" I asked, pressing Chief's contact.
"I love you, Palak." I paused my finger, hearing those words and stared at his face only to find tears in his eyes.
Because of the drug? Or is he feeling any pain? I thought shifting to get up, but he placed his hand around me before pulling me closer to his body. He is fine now? I thought first instead of pushing him away.
"Don't... don't leave me, Palak." Saying that he hugged me tightly and his tears started flowing after uttering those words.
I closed my eyes, feeling my heart, giving a jolt feeling the emotion behind those words and it was worse than when I uttered those words to him long back.
"David!" I whispered slowly placing my other hand, after hesitating for a few minutes on his back before patting him when his tears continued to flow without stopping.
"Why is it locked from inside? Who is there?" We both stiffened hearing those words and stared at each other.
*Prakash Pov*
"What to do? Your sister took him away." My friend commented when we saw their figures leaving the room.
He is actually the son of the client who is giving this party. He helped me a lot with the project last time and I was sure we would get this, but somehow that David won the deal.
So, even he is angry because of this and is ready to help me with anything. He helped me to get the waiter properly deliver the glass I prepared especially for David.
"It is better like this and let's hope they are still in the premise. Before we planned to just make him a joker before the shareholders, but now he will be paid with something else and at the same time my dear sister will also pay the price." I smirked before following the way they left and felt content when they walked into the shed instead of leaving.
"What is your plan?" he asked curiously with an evil glint and I laughed at his eagerness.
"Isn't it time for your Dad to give a tour of your home?" I asked before walking back into the building, but we made sure to keep a servant to keep an eye on the shed.
We tried to get Uncle give tour first with the garden before going to the first floor and he was happy to see my interest.
"We want to see what branded equipment you use for getting this garden ready in such short time." I praised him even though most of us can't make a head and tail of it.
"Why is it locked from inside? Who is there?" he immediately asked as he was eager to show us the equipment but found the door locked.
After a few seconds the door opened and found both of them standing there while staring at all the guests who are at present staring at them.
I nodded at the guy who is working for the press and is here to cover the party. I already talked to him to cover some interesting facts he is going to see.
"I can't believe Mr. David is like this, Dad. Isn't she the wife of his brother?" my friend started and we can hear a few gasps.
"Such a shameful people. I can't believe she is my sister." Hearing those words David immediately stepped forward to stop me but she held his hand.
I already planned to give him a drug that will not have longer effect so that he can find by his own when he makes a fool of himself. Even though our plan changed, this is definitely for the better.
"See? He doesn't have any values or any restrictions and trying to have an affair with his sister-in-law. Did you forget your brother already just because he is dead?" I asked shaking my head.
"Prakash!" Dad warned me, but I ignored him.
Didn't I promise myself to get his character drop more than mine and take my revenge. After this he will never be able to take care of his company and I will get my previous position.
"Is this how you respect your brother? What else can we expect from a person who was more into being a celebrity. How will he have any family values?" I smiled hearing those words from someone whom I don't even know which proves that my plan is successful.
"Stop it!" she shouted warning everyone.
I always knew my sister was dumb because of which she didn't enter the business world and just took the work where she has to use physical strength and nothing else.
But I didn't know she was this dumb to stay at this place instead of leaving the premises. She must have thought that he is just drunk and she doesn't know what hit her.
"He is a disgusting bastard and must be the reason for his brother's death too." I voiced out to clear the misunderstandings with the people who still remember the accident issue.
"How dare you to talk about my husband like that?" she suddenly shouted staring at me and he whispered her name.
"You are the one not respecting your dead husband and that bastard deserves this." I pointed out and she continued to glare at me not backing down.
"I am warning you to never disrespect my husband David Mattew ever again by that filthy mouth of yours." She uttered those words and there was complete silence around us.
