Chapter 18: Chapter 18

I woke up listening to the sound of a door closing. I rubbed my eyes and saw that it is just 9. I know it is not early, but these four days after coming to New York, I am getting up very late that is past ten.

I looked around to find out he is nowhere. I even checked inside the washroom, but he is not there as well. I chose to freshen up and started tying my hair into a bun looking at the mirror.

Maybe he was required to be somewhere, but he could have told me right. Maybe he didn’t want to disturb me! I thought and decided that would be the reason.

“Never I mean never think of good excuses to be the reasons for any…” Aunty’s words rang in my mind immediately.

Ok, ok Geez! I will ask him when he comes back. I thought in my mind and waited to hear ‘Good!’ but I didn’t.

I stared at the mirror again and then realized what I am actually expecting. I hit myself on my head and started getting ready.

I sat on the bed and started thinking where will we go today. I mean each day we went to a few places Divya showed and little on our own.

The next day, after Divya showed us “Romantic Places” like she said to only me, of course Suhas took me to ‘Barbetta Restaurant’ for dinner. I still can’t believe it originated in 1906, and I even saw so many antiques along with a chandelier which actually belongs to an Italian royal family at one point.

But before that we went to ‘Metropolitan museum of art’ which was amazing and overwhelming. The Greek and Roman sculptures, Renaissance masterpieces and 18th century Chinese art. These all are so good to look at and know about them.

When I told this to Divya, she immediately said she showed that museum just because it is a very important place in New York, but didn’t think we would go there as it is not the romantic place to go.

Nonetheless, I actually felt it was a romantic place because I held his hand in mine, and we walked near each sculpture or art. I get to know that his favorite subject is history, which I didn’t know until then.

He explained everything to me patiently, and I just heard him. There was a shine in his eyes when he speaks of them. I seriously felt like I am going to faint then and there, but I didn’t of course.

Because of that Divya and I had a small funny argument with her saying that it is not romantic while I just disagreed with her. I told her how I felt and everything, then she challenged us to go to the ‘Rockafellar center’.

We did and then I immediately regretted my decision because it is nothing but skating, and I don’t know how to do it at all.

However, luckily Suhas know and took me inside the unique skating rink holding my hands in his. I slipped many times so he held my waist tightly and taught me to do it.

I actually didn’t want to learn that completely even by the evening because if I did, then he would leave me, so I stayed in his arms, but didn’t learn it at all even when we have to leave the place as it is closing time.

He said after going to Mumbai, he will teach me even more properly, but I decided then and there that I will let him teach me, but I will never learn it in my entire life.

Making that decision, I suddenly felt new because I would never do that like never, but I want only to be in his arms. I am not doing a bad thing right? I thought, but then again, thought he is my husband so, no, I am not doing anything wrong.

Then yesterday we went to ‘Lincoln centre’ and heard New York metropolitan opera, which was performed at the time, we went there. And in the afternoon he took me to ‘Central Park boathouse’.

We paddled rowboat together, and it felt so romantic like it is our life, and we both are paddle ling it in tune. I held his hand tightly while doing it, but he removed his hand from mine.

I got a little sad, but continued to paddle, but he surprised me by placing his hand over my shoulder. I just smiled at him, and he smiled back.

I got out of my thoughts when I heard the door opening and also the footsteps towards me. I looked up to see him walking towards me, but he got shocked when he saw me awake.

“Hey! Where were you?” I asked him smiling.

“I just went to see some work. And I didn’t think you would be awake, by the time I return.” he replied, and I shrugged.

“Want to have some breakfast?” I asked him getting up.

“Yeah!” he replied, nodding.

“Then we will have breakfast at the restaurant downstairs like yesterday.” I said, smiling and started walking passing him.

Nonetheless, he pulled me to him holding my waist and stopped me from moving. I looked at him confused, but he cleared it by pressing his lips to mine.

As usual, I smiled at it because his kisses just make me feel alive like this is the best feeling. After releasing me, he still continued to hold me and said, “Let’s go somewhere else.”

“Where?” I asked him smiling.

“Just a small restaurant on the corner of this lane.” He replied, and I nodded at him.

We walked there holding our hands and entered the restaurant. We both ordered some light breakfast and had it talking to each other.

When it is finished, he suddenly smiled wide looking behind me. I was about to turn and see what it is but he stopped me cupping my face.

“Don’t look now! I will tell you when to.” He said, and I nodded at him confused.

After paying up, he got up, and I too did the same. I was about to turn around to start walking, but he closed my eyes with his hands.

“Suhas! What are you doing?” I asked him shocked.

“Just walk like this.” He replied, still not removing his hands.

“What if I get hurt?” I asked him, but continued to walk like he said.

“I will not leave you. Trust me!” he replied.

“I trust you!” I said smiling and then felt him suddenly stopping in his tracks.

“What happened?” I asked him confused.

“Nothing! Just open your eyes when I tell you.” he replied and asked me to after one minute.

I opened my eyes slowly to only make them wide because of the surprise in front of me. There in front of me is the horse-drawn carriage.

“Are we going to go in this?” I asked him excitingly.

“Yes!” he replied smiling at my excitement.

We both hopped on to the carriage and then our tour started in this. Suhas placed his hand around my waist and pulled me towards him.

I allow him and laid my head on his shoulder. After a few minutes still in that position I looked up and asked, “When did you arrange this?”

“Today morning! I went near plaza hotel and got one with ease.” He replied, turning his head towards mine.

I looked at him and he too did the same. After some time, we broke it when the carriage came to a stop.

I looked outside to see that we are near some harbor type, and I can see little yachts, which are at a little distance. I looked at Suhas wide-eyed and, he nodded at me.

We both got outside the carriage and paid the rider his money. I walked with him towards the yachts completely excited.

There are four types of cruises, but he selected the sunset cruise. We got into it and I closed my eyes for one second not believing that I am on a yacht.

We had a wonderful ride and even ate some lunch there itself. Finally, when it was now time for sunset, I walked to the railing and saw it.

Then I felt his presence behind me, and he hugged me tightly from behind. I snuggled into his hug, and we both watched the sunset.

“It is beautiful, isn’t it?” I asked him looking behind a little to see his face.

But he is already looking at me and said, “It is!”

I flushed but still continued to look at him then he slowly bended and planted his lips on mine. I turned little more and kissed him back.

I never thought I would have a kiss in public, but here I am doing it with my husband when many people are so close to us.

After that ride, we started going back. I actually thought we were going back to the hotel room, but looks like he still had another surprise planned for me.

He took us to the Brooklyn Bridge and walked us inside some ‘River Café’. And the view when we sat at our table was the most amazing.

The lights sparkling on the water made everything look very little in front of it. I turned towards him and grinned.

“Do you know you are amazing?” I asked him holding his hand.

“I am not Navya!” he replied after a few minutes.

“That’s what all say, but I know that you are an amazing husband.” I said, and we both started having our dinner.

Then later we reached the hotel and got ready for bed. I lay down on the bed waiting for him, then I heard my phone ringing.

I immediately took it from the table thinking it must be my family. I am missing them as I didn’t talk to them properly after reaching Mumbai at all.

I tried to call many times, but everyone just hung up after a few minutes, and I felt so much awkwardness during the conversation.

“Hello!” I said, lifting the call.

“Navya! I hope I am not disturbing anything.” She said teasingly.

“I am about to get to sleep. Why? What is it?” I asked her yawning.

“Sleep? Seriously Navya?” she asked, shocked.

“What happened, Divya?” I asked her confused.

“Ok! Tomorrow we all are going to have a girl’s full day not girl’s night because a girl's night is not at all enough for you. And tell Suhas to spend some time with the guys if he wants. As tomorrow is the weekend, they all are free.” She replied, but I didn’t understand her first line at all.

“Ok I will tell him.” I said and hung up the phone.

When he came and lay down on the bed, I lay down and told him about the Divya’s call.

“Do you have to go?” he asked after a few minutes.

I looked at him, frowning and replied “Yeah! They have been talking about it for a few days. And you can hang out with the guys right.”

“I don’t know! I will see whether I will meet them or not.” he said sighing.

“Don’t you want me to go?” I asked him, placing a hand on his cheek.

“Nothing like that.” he replied, shaking his head.

I kissed him on his cheek and said, “Today will be the most memorable day of my life.”

“I like you so much Suhas.” I said, smiling and he smiled back leaning down to capture my lips with his.

Releasing them, he started kissing my cheek and then jaw. Then moved to my neck, making me gasp due to which he stopped and smiled at me.

“Good night!” he said, kissing my forehead, but I just nodded, still in shock thinking what just happened.

After a few minutes I slowly drifted off into sleep with a smile because of this wonderful day…
