Chapter 81: Chapter 81

“Try to understand Princess, he had lost a large amount of blood. There’s no way he would be able to make it.” One of the wizards exclaimed as he pressed Zagan’s chest who abruptly started to wheeze.

Jasmine was also rubbing his palms which were turning cold with every passing second. The girl who was always conscious of her looks was in a vulnerable state. Her beautiful, thick hair was messed up like a mare’s nest and her hazel eyes had turned red due to excessive crying.

Jasmine was losing hope as Zagan was showing no signs of improvement. He was still losing blood and his wounds weren’t healing. The wizards were losing their minds because their best medicines turned unraveled, extinguishing their hopes.

Jasmine looked at the head wizard, “WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE WON’T BE ABLE TO MAKE IT!! THEODORE HAD ONLY STABBED HIS BACK NOT HIS HEART.” She shouted, her eyes shooting daggers.

The wizard huffed and threw her a pissed look, “But you’re forgetting that it was Theodore’s sword. The apparent heir of the Universe won’t be carrying a wooden stick with him, Princess, his sword itself is a lethal weapon. When he attacked Zagan, the blade pierced his internal organs, and the magical spells laced on his blade quickly spread into his body. The venom has now possessed his whole being and I am sorry to say but curing him is now out of our hands.” He spoke curtly and moved back.

Jasmine stared at him in shock but her fear doubled when other wizards who were also treating Zagan followed his trail and stepped back. They all surrendered concomitantly.

“NO, NO PLEASE. HE’LL DIE!! DO SOMETHING-”

“He’ll die, either way, Princess. We’ve tried our best but we can’t afford to waste more of our time especially when our King is in dire straits. He needs us more than this man whose sister was responsible for the debacle” One of the witches spoke bitterly.

The wizard who was in charge of Zagan’s treatment nodded in approval and looked at the girl who was staring at them helplessly, “Our priority is Demon King, Princess but as per Queen Mother’s orders, we left him to look after your lover. We tried our best and used the most effective potions but nothing worked. You need to understand Princess that your brother’s life should matter more to you than the brother of the betrayer who tried to kill our Queen.” His tone turned vitriolic by last.

Jasmine fumed in anger. They were retreating only because Zagan was Kiora’s brother.

When Calix returned with battered Zagan and Zachary, Orkus didn’t dare to dally and immediately invoked all the wizards and witches, delegating them to treat the princes. The demons were worried and scared as Zachary was loved by all but their fear turned into rage when they found Zagan in the palace.

Nothing was hidden from them. Barbas had told them about the shenanigans of Kiora which had put their King’s life at stake. Enraged, they strictly rejected to treat Zagan who indirectly had to bear their wrath. But Delphyne compelled them to cure him for the sake of her daughter.

Listlessly, they were treating Zagan but his deteriorating health gave them a reason to step back and leave.

Ebras, the head wizard suddenly clapped his hand diverting everyone’s attention.

“Enough with chit chats, let’s leave now.”

The wizards and witches immediately stood up on his command. They kept the medical equipment on the table and started walking behind him.

Jasmine quickly stood up and ran to Ebras.

Ebras halted when he felt a pair of hands holding his right hand. He looked down only to find Jasmine staring at him with teary eyes.

“S-Sir please don’t do this. At least tell me what can I do to save him. I know Zac needs you but it’s your responsibility to treat an injured person. A doctor doesn’t care if the injured is an enemy or not. How can you abandon Zagan just because he is Kiora’s brother? He was innocent the whole time. You can’t just back out from your duties,” She argued.

Ebras removed her hands gently and turned to her, “Sorry Princess but your age isn’t even half of the years I had spent in this Palace serving the royal family. So, no one needs me to remind myself of my duties. I know that well but it looks like you’re forgetting that you’re no longer a peasant like Rose, you’re a blue blood. And being a part of the royal family, there are two things you should always keep in mind, one is devotion and the other is loyalty.” He spoke in a condescending tone turning Jasmine speechless.

“Your brother is our God. His life is more important and valuable than any other demon. I can understand your feelings and trust me, I sympathize with you too but nothing comes above our King. And this applies to every demon as we all have sworn our lives to protect the king.”

Roxanne, his wife also stepped forward, to support him, “I can understand your pain Princess but Zagan would have also prioritized his life over the King. He would have advised you the same. I know you’ve been brought up in Heaven so you might not be familiar with our rules and regulations but don’t worry, you’ll understand everything with time.” She tried to sugarcoat her words but Jasmine was quick to notice the taunting smirk on her face.

Jasmine stayed rooted in her spot as she watched the demons exiting the form hurriedly. Some witches threw her a mocking smile while some scoffed. She knew she wasn’t welcomed yet.

Well, how can she expect them to accept her this fast? She was also uncomfortable around them. Just because she was King’s sister, no one would abruptly develop a change of heart for her. She was ready to wait but Zagan was unnecessarily suffering because of their unwanted hostility.

Jasmine looked at the man who was lying in the middle of the bed like a corpse. She ran to him and again tried healing him with her powers but nothing worked.

Defeated, she placed her head on his chest and burst into tears, “W-Why is this happening to me? Why are you leaving me after showing me a ray of hope?”

Jasmine choked on her tears. She felt utterly miserable and helpless today.

“All my life, I had yearned for love. My obsession pushed Theodore away from me. I know he did wrong but he wasn’t at fault either. If only I had used the right way to confess my feelings to him, things might have been different today. But what is hollowing me from inside is that I shouldn’t have dragged you into my mess. When Theo finally decided to give me a chance, I should have just accepted it but my self-esteem forbade me to stay firm on my decision.”

Jasmine kept speaking in a cracked voice, her mind replaying all the memories she had lived with Theodore, all the humiliations she was put through by the Theo family.

Her lips stretched into a sad smile, “Self-esteem? You might be laughing at me right Zagan? The girl who begged Theodore to love her, who was ready to do anything to have him suddenly had the gall to turn him down because she couldn’t handle him toying with her anymore. What an irony.”

Jasmine laughed at her ill fate. She continued laughing like a broken doll while talking with Zagan. The girl had lost all shreds of sanity.

After laughing her heart out, Jasmine moved back and looked at Zagan. Grabbing his icy cold hand, she opened his palms and placed them on her face. Snuggling in them, she closed her eyes and heaved a sigh of relief, “Still, I would thank you for coming into my life. Yes, our story didn’t last long but at least because of you, I got the taste of this heavenly feeling, how it feels when someone truly cares about you irrespective of his class and wealth. I don’t care if that feeling was ephemeral but at least I got to live it.” Whispering, she leaned back and placed his hands on the bed carefully.

Jasmine then stood up on her shaky legs and looked at Zagan. Her eyes were shedding tears but not a single sound escaped her mouth. Her hazel eyes had lost all their vigor and today were frigid, devoid of any emotion.

Placing her right hand on her waist, she undid her belt and took out her bayonet. Removing the sheath, she discarded it on the floor making a loud clanking sound, and brought the dagger in front of her.

“All my life I had only given pain and tears to everyone. Be it Rose, Diana, Theodore, or Zagan. No one was able to spend his life peacefully because of my naivety, selfishness, and my sick desires. Just because I was deprived of love, I didn’t let my sister stay happy too. I am the reason why my brother is on his deathbed, my crush killed the man who truly loved me, and my sister’s house is in danger as Calix would leave her if something happens to Zac and Diana, she had suffered the most because of my stupid jealousy.” She spoke while eyeing the silver blade with dead eyes.

Jasmine was bogged with self-loath. She was lost in the dark world of depression. The feelings of contempt, hatred, and disgust she was feeling for herself were compelling her to end her life.

Taking a deep sigh, Jasmine then moved towards Zagan with tottering steps. Her knees hit the bed and she immediately fell on her knees with a thud. Her breathing turned ragged still she somehow clambered onto the bed and lay beside him. Placing her left hand on his cheek, she softly caressed it and with the other hand, she trained the knife at her heart.

“I am sorry Zagan for being the reason for your death but I won’t be able to live with this guilt. If I had spent my whole life being a selfish woman, then why not end my life by being the same?” She said and laughed hysterically. Jasmine finally turned deranged. She knew no matter how hard she puts effort into reparation, the guilt of destroying multiple lives would haunt her whole life.

A tear slid down her cheek and finally, a sob erupted from her chest. Still, she bit her lips harshly making them bleed to steady herself while keeping her eyes on the man who was in a peaceful slumber.

Jasmine traced her left hand down and slowly intertwined her fingers with his long but cold ones. His pulse was too low and she knew that his end was near as his lips started to turn blue.

“We weren’t fortunate in this world but I assure you that we would complete our incomplete love story in our next life. I couldn’t save you but I will definitely not abandon you. We are bound to be together; Zagan and I’ll pray to God that in every life, I get you as my husband.”

Speaking in a hoarse voice, she finally closed her mesmerizing hazel hues after capturing the picture of her beloved and stabbed herself.

Her body jolted and a loud gasp left her mouth but she didn’t open her eyes and immediately accepted death with wide arms.

At the same moment, the door burst open. A horrified gasp echoed in the room which was soon followed by an ear-splitting scream.

“JASMINE!!!”
