Chapter 78: Chapter 78

Christian rushed to George and held his shoulders as the injured prince staggered to the ground with his hands on his chest.

George was blazing from the inside but his flagging strength stalled his revenge game. Cursing internally, he then looked at Diana whose blue eyes were already fixed on him.

Diana on the other hand had mixed feelings. On one side she was happy to save her friend from this psychopath but the irony was that the psychopath was none other than her friend.

To save one, she tried to kill the other.

Diana slightly flinched after noticing the pained look in his eyes.

Who knew that their friendship would fizzle out one day?

But her remorse was only exuberating George.

‘Maybe she would help me out?’

He internally prayed for Diana to side with him but her next words vitiated his hopes.

“I am sorry but you deserved it.”

George was stunned but Diana didn’t even spare a glance his way and headed to Zachary and the others.

Rose looked at Jasmine who was drenched in sweat.

“What’s happening? Why am I not able to heal him?” Jasmine said and looked at Zachary with terrified eyes who looked equally confused.

“Wait, let me try,” Diana spoke softly and took a seat beside her.

Jasmine looked at her and then at Zachary. Of course, she was doubting her ability but Zachary kept calm. He turned his attention to Diana who closed her eyes and started to chant a spell.

Just like Jasmine, somebody else was also not pleased by the Queen’s move.

Rose who was looking at Diana with a scowl couldn’t control herself and lashed at her, “He is attacked by a weapon of a demon, Di. How will you be able to cure him?”

Her voice raised an octave. Diana completely ignored her but her accusation irked her husband.

“SHUT UP AND LET HER DO WHAT SHE WANTS TO!!” Zachary roared earning a horrifying flinch from her. Jasmine quickly intervened and placed a hand on his shoulder to calm him down.

Ignoring the hullaballoo, Diana continued doing her work. Unclenching her right fist, she placed her palm on Calix’s forehead who was in a deep sleep, while with the other she kept caressing his wound gently.

Her actions ablaze the green-eyed monster sitting beside her. Jealousy surged through his veins as Zachary glared at her slender fingers that were caressing Calix’s skin. He opened his mouth to speak but was stopped by Jasmine.

“Hold your horses, she’s only healing him.” She whispered which fortunately worked. Zachary looked away in annoyance and continued sulking like a kid the whole time. Jasmine couldn’t help but giggle making him narrow his eyes at her.

On the other hand, Rose was losing her patience. Calix was still unconscious. Defeated, she then joined her hands and prayed to the Almighty with wet eyes.

Everyone present in the room flitted their eyes from Diana to Calix as they waited with bated breath for a miracle to happen.

After completing the spell, Diana then opened her eyes and looked at Calix with hope. Rose leaned forward and grabbed his face with her trembling hands and planted a soft kiss on his forehead.

“Cal, wake up for your Rosa.” She spoke near his lips as a lone tear escaped her eye and landed on his cheek.

Their ray of hope was about to die but as if God listened to their unsaid prayers. Diana’s face beamed in joy when her eyes met with the hazy sapphire ones staring at her weakly.

“Hey man,” Zachary spoke making Calix pass him a weak smile.

“Cal” Rose screamed in delight before bursting into hysterical sobs. Calix smiled and hugged her as she buried her face in his chest and started crying like a child.

Diana looked at Zachary who smiled at her and pulled her to him. She snuggled into his chest and closed her eyes in contentment, it felt home to her.

Christian who was watching the couples’ adorable moments from afar felt something odd. Although he had sneaked away in the mid of the fight to get aid, he knew about the venomous weapon that Kiora had brought along with her.

When Christian entered the room along with his guards, he saw Diana stabbing George with the same knife. Although he was terrified for his brother at the moment, now his conscious self was bothering him which was shocking for him as well. Still, he kept quiet for the time being and continued analyzing the situation.

He then noticed that Calix was also hurt by the same lethal knife but the question is how come they both survived the fatal attack?

That question was not only vexing him but also the Demon King. Both the men had the same uneasy expression on their faces, trying to solve the riddle.

Zachary was delighted to get his friend back but the thing was that he was saved by Diana, an angel.

‘How come Diana knew the cure of a demonic spell?’

This fact was unsettling to him because the dagger not only belonged to a demon but his blade was also coated with a feral venom that can end one’s life just by touching it.

‘Damn it.’

He clenched his fists in frustration.

“Zac?”

Zachary was startled by a soft voice that rang in his ears. He turned to Diana but the concern in her eyes tugged his heartstrings.

‘I shouldn’t worry about these petty issues. My priority is Diana right now.’ Reminding himself, Zachary took a deep sigh and brushed away his doubts.

Suddenly a thought crossed his mind. Several years before, he also had been attacked the same way as Calix. And just like today, the healer was none other than Diana.

‘Maybe she knows how to deal with demonic blades.’

The answer wasn’t appealing to him yet he accepted it for the time being. ’Cause he wanted to leave this place as soon as possible.

Diana was startled when Zachary abruptly stood up. Grabbing her elbow, he made her stand on her feet and then looked at Calix. Both the demons conversed in minds while Rose and Diana stared at them with confused faces.

Taking the support of Rose, Calix also stood up from the ground. He then looked at Jasmine who was trying to heal Zagan. Zachary followed his eyes. His gaze turned soft watching Jasmine sobbing as she struggled to cure Zagan who showed no signs of waking up.

Exhaling a heavy sigh, Zachary then looked away when his gaze fell on Theodore. His eyes were stuck on her but the crazed look in them made him panic.

‘I need to take Jasmine away.’

Without wasting time, Zachary hurried to Jasmine.

Feeling a presence, Jasmine craned her neck and looked up only to find Zachary looking at her with a stern look.

“Don’t worry. Barbus will cure him,” he spoke and squeezed her shoulders, assuring her. But she wasn’t convinced. Averting her gaze, she looked behind him only to see Diana.

Zachary turned stiff finding the gleam in her eyes. She was silently asking her for help.

Diana nodded in understanding. But before she could take a step forward, a thunderous voice echoed in the room, rendering both the girls silent.

“Didn’t you hear me, Jasmine? We’ll take Zagan with us and Barbus will cure him. End of discussion.”

His imperative tone made the girl shudder in fright. But Zachary also had a valid reason behind it. After a lot of struggles, he finally got Diana, safe and sound. Now, he just wanted to take her away because Zachary knew that Theodore won’t leave any chances of hurting him or her. They both shared the same feelings-hostility, and intense hatred, but unlike Theodore, Zachary didn’t want to cage Diana in their slugfest. On the other hand, after knowing the truth, Jasmine now had become his responsibility.

The feelings were new but euphoric for the Demon King as the onus of protecting and keeping his family away from dangers had changed him from a destroyer to a protector.

Jasmine was angered by her brother’s decision but still, she gave in. Zachary then bent down and with one swift move pulled Zagan and threw him on his left shoulder.

“Let’s go.”

He spoke and walked ahead with Jasmine and Diana following his trail. Calix who was walking behind them smiled to himself. He was moved by his King’s gesture who without a word stepped up to support Zagan. He knew that Zachary hadn’t forgiven him yet for backstabbing him. Calix was ashamed of his deeds and but even after everything, he knew that he still has a place in his heart.

After reaching the exit, Diana stopped near Christian whose eyes were filled with regret. The ignominious deeds of his brothers forbade him to even look into her eyes.

Diana then shifted her gaze to George who was gawking at Rose and Calix. Rose didn’t meet his eyes and wrapped her arm around Calix who also held her waist protectively. George clenched his jaw and shot him a glare but Calix threw him a smirk in return. He was enjoying his vulnerability.

Zachary then stood near Diana and finally break the tension in the air, “Thanks for taking care of my Princess. Though I want to kill your brother, I am pulling out only because of you and your wife.” His raucous voice held a warning which didn’t go unnoticed by Christian.

Christian knew that Zachary was only controlling his rage for the sake of his wife otherwise the Theo palace would have turned into rubbles by now.

Nodding in defeat, Christian then gestured at his guards to leave the way. He then looked at Diana who was already looking at him, maybe waiting for him to say something.

He instantly leaped on the opportunity.

“I know what we have done is unforgivable but, if possible, do forgive us,” he spoke sincerely and looked at her with hopeful eyes.

Diana quickly shook her head in denial and grabbed his hands in her soft ones, “Don’t apologize. You and Christina were never at fault. I am grateful to you for taking care of me and standing by my side. You even went against your brother to defend me. That itself means a lot to me.”

Her words brought relief to Christian. Taking a deep breath, he looked at her. Diana frowned watching his hesitation nevertheless she let him continue.

“You are really a pure soul, Diana. I know that the malfeasance of Theo and George can’t be made up with a plain apology but I would still request you to forgive them for their mistakes.”

Her smile immediately dropped. Diana didn’t reply to him and lowered her gaze.

Christian was hurt by her silence. He knew that Diana won’t forgive them that easily but he also couldn’t ignore the pain of his shattered brothers. They weren’t bad just had picked up the wrong path. Maybe her forgiveness would compel them to introspect and rectify their mistakes.

Zachary was watching them silently. He knew Diana wasn’t someone to hold onto grudges for long but what Theodore did with her can’t be condoned either.

Diana was lost in thoughts when she felt a warm touch on her left hand. She turned her neck only to find Zachary standing beside her.

“Your brothers tried to force their sick feelings on my sister and my wife. Does that sound like a mistake to you?”

His words were a reality check for Christian.

Christian immediately lowered his head in shame, “I-I know but-”

“But nothing.” Zachary rebuffed him.

Christian quickly sealed his lips but a shiver ran down his spine when Zachary stepped closer to him. The heat of his anger emanating from his body pierced his skin like needles.

“Your fucked up brothers committed a crime Christian and perpetrators deserve punishment, not forgiveness. Thank your Lord, that I am sparing you otherwise I don’t even allow my demons to look at my Princess. And here your dickhead King tried to hurt my wife not once but twice and yet I am sparing his life. Instead of begging favors from her, don’t YOU think that you should thank me that you’re still standing on your legs?”

His words sucked the life out of him. Christain tried to retaliate but ended up a releasing frightened gasp. The iciness in his eyes and his voice that emerged from the pit of darkness even forced the saviors of angels to step back.

“No one stays alive after making me mad. Your King caged my Diana, threatened my sister, and even used my wife as a bate. I am on the brink of losing his sanity but only for the sake of my wife and the child in her womb, I am willing to step back. But I AM WARNING YOU, DON’T YOU DARE LOOK AT MY FAMILY EVER OR ELSE I WILL GAUGE YOUR EYES OUT OF THE SOCKETS AND FEEDS YOUR GOOD FOR NOTHING BODIES TO MY HUNGRY DEMONS.” Zachary snarled on his face and then looked at the guards who cowered back in horror.

Diana also jumped at his roar. She then slightly nudged him making Zachary snap her head in her direction. He looked into her eyes which were reprimanding him for scaring Christian but does he care? Hell no.

Feeling a burning gaze on his body, Zachary turned around to look at the man who was boring holes in his body. Scoffing, he then turned his attention back on Christian completely ignoring him and that was for sure a huge blow to his ego.
