Chapter 66: Chapter 66

Two days later

Binnazun Dynasty

Calix’s P.O.V.

“You called me here Queen?”

I said to Delphyne who was hiding behind a pillar, her eyes cautiously scanning her surroundings.

My voice made her jump on the spot. She pivoted with her hand over her heart. The expression she gave me was the one of getting caught red-handed but no sooner did our eyes meet, her tensed shoulders slouched as relief washed over her.

“Ah! You’re finally here. You don’t know how hard it has been for me to hide from my son and husband and roam inside my own house with fear.” She said and let out a nervous laugh but I kept my face stoic.

The previous encounter with Zac affected me in the worst way. I can’t stop thinking about reconsidering my decision.

Diana, Diana, and Diana. She was the only one who was on my mind these days. The notorious goofy ball which had stolen my brother’s heart. Her smile, her innocent big doe blue eyes, and her small baby face saddled me with guilt whenever I ponder on my mission of getting rid of her.

I kept reminding myself that this is all for Zachary and Jasmine. No one was at fault because this plan was entirely mine but now it had started to haunt me. How will I be able to kill her?

My principles had been meddling with my allegiance. I must protect the royal family but I can’t help but feel guilty. Diana is innocent, can’t there be any other way I can stop this mishap?

“Anyways, I brought this from Barbas,” Delphyne said, breaking my train of thoughts as she showed me a small flask containing a slimy, dark blue liquid.

My senses instantly turned alert. Don’t tell me it’s what I am thinking.

“Poison.”

And I was damn right.

I looked at Delphyne in horror but she was cool as a cucumber, “You will lace your sword with this poison and then plunge it in her abdomen. It will not only kill her child but also end up finishing her.” She spoke with menace. I gulped as she forwarded the flask for me to take. But I scrupled not to accept it.

This is not right. This is not at all right.

“Kiora has everything in control. She will help you reach Diana and then you can easily kill her. I assure you that no one would doubt you. This poison wouldn’t cause her pain. It will kill her on the spot so you don’t have to bother about handling her or worry about making her unconscious. What you need to focus on is that you have to attack her abdomen or else our efforts will turn down the drain. We have to damage her womb so that she can’t produce that sin.” She continued speaking but I wasn’t paying any heed to her words.

My mind drifted back to the time when we were all so happy. Me taking Zac to Moonland to visit Diana and then me teasing Rose. Everything was going well until Zac decided to ruin everything. Talking about which where is he now?

“If things were in my control, I would have killed her myself and protected my daughter. That fucking Angel is a born curse.”

My jaw ticked as Delphyne kept ridiculing the girl.

This impudent woman. I can understand that she is doing this for her the sake of her daughter but how can she talk so causally about killing the soul which had never done any harm to her?

I cleared my throat a little to put a stop to her never-ending venomous tales, “But what about Zac? How will you handle him after Diana’s death?”

Delphyne paused but soon her face morphed into rage. She laughed as if I had cracked a joke, “Why do you seem so hesitant, Cal? Weren’t you desperate to kill Diana before, what changed your mind now? You better not forget that you have given me your word. I wouldn’t spare you if you renege your promise and-”

“Hold on a second.”

I raised my palm in front of her face to shut her when she started threatening me and reminding me of my promises. Delphyne was taken aback as I blatantly disrespected her. But I had enough of her oppressing me.

“Neither I am reneging the promise that I had made to you nor I am forgetting anything. I am not denying killing Diana but to think of it, this can be done in some other way. A way that doesn’t use Diana as a scapegoat.”

Delphyne kept silent so I took it as a cue and continued, “It’s not fair to murder the one who doesn’t even have an idea as to what shit he or she is trapped in. There has to be some other way.”

“There isn’t left any now.”

Our conversation was interrupted by Kiora who appeared out of nowhere. She gave me a once over before approaching Delphyne who stared at her with anticipation, “What do you mean by that?”

‘Why am I getting a bad feeling about this?’

She never looked this serious to me. I started assessing the situation in my mind.

Kiora is back from Moonland without Zagan. That means he met Jasmine there but Kiora doesn’t look delighted with her visit. And therein lies the rub.

The hair on my nape stood up as I finally arrived at the conclusion.

Diana is pregnant.

Oh no, this isn’t good.

If this witch reveals the truth to Delphyne, she will straightaway command me to murder her. And I would be helpless as Diana is indeed a threat to my world. I won’t be able to deny but the worst part is that even if I want to, they won’t let me by reminding me of my fidelity and oath to protect the Binnazun Dynasty at any cost.

This woman is blindsided by her daughter’s love and Kiora would take the advantage of it. I need to do something quickly before things turn out of control.

Kiora inhaled sharply and was about to answer the Queen but I butt in.

“This isn’t your playground which you can enter and exit whenever you want to. Don’t forget that we are still not on friendly terms.” I yelled which took her as well as Delphyne off guard.

“Are you stupid Cal? Keep it low. You want us to get caught?” Delphyne whisper-yelled but I shook my head in denial.

“Forgive me Queen but I don’t trust my enemies. Jasmine and Zac are my responsibility. I don’t need an outsider’s guidance. And I would advise you the same, stop trusting these snakes.”

I spat on her face and shot her the deadliest glare. Kiora turned stiff by my words. She hadn’t expected that but eventually, her rage kicked in as she approached me within three long strides and met my glare head-on.

“WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOURSELF, HUH? TO WHOM YOU’RE SHOWING ATTITUDE? DON’T FORGET THAT YOU CAME GROVELING TO ME TO SAVE YOUR FUCKING KINGDOM. AND NOW, YOU ARE YOU CALLING ME AN OUTSIDER?”, She spoke in an accusatory tone while jabbing my chest with her long nails.

I slapped her hands away and pushed her back. Delphyne grabbed her but their eyes turned to the size of saucers when I removed my sword and aimed it at her.

“I am warning you. Leave before I slit your throat. Binnazun Dynasty is in safe hands. So, stop putting your fucking nose in our family matters and get the fuck out.”

Her face turned pale at my threat. Delphyne tried to intervene but her steps halted after hearing me growl.

“LEAVE BEFORE I CALL ZACHARY!!!”

Hearing Zachary’s name, Kiora didn’t waste a second and evaporated in blue flame.

“NO WAIT!!”, Delphyne shouted and tried to chase her but she had already left. Exasperated, she then turned to me and shot me a black look.

“WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO-WAIT, I AM NOT FINISHED YET!!”

She shouted from behind but I immediately turned my heels and left leaving her hanging.

End of Calix’s P.O.V.

Time skip

After the grueling day, Calix finally retired to his palace. Taking the staircase, he started heading to his room. His legs missed some steps as he was completely worn out.

Though Calix had defied Delphyne’s orders earlier, he knew he won’t be able to run from his responsibility for so long. And now when Diana is pregnant, he needs to come up with a good plan to save the innocent lives without sacrificing anyone.

Grabbing the knob, Calix twisted it and opened the door only to freeze on spot.

His eyes turned wide when he found the Demon King sitting on his bed with his elbows resting on his knees. But what left him shook was his mighty golden sword in his hand. Zachary was tracing his long fingers on the bare metal; his eyes were calm and his face was blank but that mere action galvanized his nerves.

The whole matter of killing Diana and saving Jasmine had turned the sapphire-eyed demon restless. He just wanted to take a break from them and sleep off his tensions but looks like fate had different plans. Zachary was the last man he wanted to face at the moment.

But now he was in his room with a dagger and his expression didn’t look genial to him from any angle.

Sensing a presence in the room, Zachary lifted his head only to find an ashy Calix staring at him in shock.

“You’re finally here.”

He spoke in his deep voice which ran chills down his spine.

Calix couldn’t articulate his fear. The room was wreathed in an apprehensive miasma of dread and malice. He had been avoiding Zachary for the last two days so it was obvious he didn’t have any idea of his whereabouts. But the truth was that Calix couldn’t muster up the courage to face him. He was ashamed and guilty of backstabbing his friend who always considered him his elder brother.

Zachary stood up from the bed and started approaching him while tracing the sword on the floor. The metal made a clanking sound which made Calix flinch. His every step punctuated his heartbeat. Negative scenarios started flooding his mind as he watched Zachary closing the distance between them.

‘Did Zac find out the truth? That’s impossible though, he wouldn’t have been this becalmed then?’

“Why have you been avoiding me, Cal? I send the guards to call you multiple times today but you just didn’t show up. What’s the matter?” Zachary questioned him; his voice was gentle.

Calix breathed in a sigh of relief. He put up a smile and answered him, “I was busy dealing with Zagan. He had been troubling me a lot today. I didn’t want to worry you so I handled him myself.” He straightaway lied on his face.

Zachary narrowed his eyes, “What new show he had put up now?”

Calix snickered and continued playing along, “Nothing, just the same slogan. Don’t worry I have the situation in control.” He spoke quickly and tried to change the topic.

Calix knew that if Zachary kept interrogating him about Zagan, he would get in trouble as he had no idea about Zagan’s current location.

Walking past him, Calix then headed to the couch and removed his cape, “Well, what brings you here?” He tried to act cool but Zachary didn’t let him off the hook as he was still stuck on his previous question.

“Are you sure about that?”

Now that irked him. Calix was already frustrated with his mother and now the Demon King was getting under his skin. Still, he took a deep breath and turned to Zachary who was looking at him with raised brows.

“Yes, Zac. Why are you suspecting me?” He spoke in an amicable tone. But what Zachary said next snatched the ground beneath his feet.

“Because Zagan was with me the whole day.”
