Chapter 54: Chapter 54
“You betrayed me, brother. I told you everything so that you can help me win Rose not to take her away from me.”
George shouted while glaring at Theodore with watery eyes who was sitting on his throne, his ring-cladded fingers vigorously tapping against the armrest.
A frown settled on his brows when he found no response from him. Theodore was staring ahead; his expressions were inscrutable.
His jaw ticked. Storming towards him, he yelled.
“WHY DON’T YOU ANSWER ME, HUH?? BECAUSE OF YOUR FOOLISHNESS, ROSE LEFT ME!! SHE AGAIN ESCAPED!! THAT FUCKING JASMINE MADE ME PROMISE THAT I WON’T LOOK FOR HER SISTER EVER AGAIN!! AND I HAD TO PROMISE HER. ALL THANKS TO YOU!!!”
Flashback
George and Jasmine were pacing back and forth in the room. Their eyes kept flitting back to the door.
Especially Jasmine. She was counting the seconds on her fingers and biting her lips from time to time. Her dreading heart kept predicting the consequences of their secretive meeting.
The creaking of the door halted their steps. No sooner did Theodore enter than Jasmine pounced on him which took him off guard. Unconsciously his hands grabbed her waist to steady himself.
Grabbing him by her collars, Jasmine pulled him closer to her lips.
“What took you so long? Where’s my sister? It’s okay if you don’t want to answer me but at least tell me that you a-aren’t planning on leaving me, right?” She asked him like a child.
Theodore looked at her. His heart was moved when he found tears shining in her hazel orbs. Her cheeks were already damped and her eyes had turned swollen and red from excessive crying.
He doesn’t know why but this time he let her hold him. Neither he pushed her nor he said anything. They both willingly stayed in each other’s embrace and kept looking at each other like lost lovers.
On the other hand, George was losing his mind. There was no sign of Rose and deep down, he had a bad feeling about their secretive meeting.
As soon as Rose stepped in, she immediately became the cynosure of all eyes. Her shoulders turned heavy. The onus was on her and this fact was killing her from inside.
“So Rose, what have you decided?”
Theodore suddenly asked her in a composed tone which shook Jasmine. Her face instantly lost color as she craned her neck and looked at him.
He looked serious and his eyes went back to ice cold.
“D-decided? What-”
She murmured but her heart dropped when she heard Rose’s next words.
“You need to revoke the sacred bond and free Theodore from this marriage or I will be guillotined on the charge of treason.”
She spoke in an emotionless voice. Jasmine froze on her spot. Even George was stunned by her words but soon his lips curved up when he understood the hidden agenda of his brother.
Theodore looked at Jasmine whose gaze dropped to his shirt, her lips curved downwards and her shoulders slouched. She was broken.
He then looked at George who winked at him. He knew he had won today but he didn’t feel happy.
‘Why? He doesn’t know.’
Probably it was his concern for her. For the first time in his life, he felt pity for the girl whom he hated to his core.
Theodore slowly cupped her chin and made her look at him. He let out a shuddering breath when he gazed into her empty, soulless eyes.
Jasmine was devasted by this news. No way she would let her sister die. She knew Theodore wasn’t fuzzing as he was adamant to get rid of her. Rose’s arrival only opened the gates for him and he would definitely hit her below the belt.
Her lovesick heart which always craved his attention was still hoping that he won’t abandon her. Maybe he hates her but he won’t use her sister to kick her out and leave her all alone in this cruel world. But today her biggest fear turned true and with that, she lost her last hope.
Theodore tried to say something but he couldn’t muster up the courage. The seam of his lips was pasted together and no matter how hard he tried; he couldn’t speak.
To his surprise, Jasmine removed his hands and stepped back. Rose was also shocked by her move as she hadn’t expected her to do so. Especially Theodore. He thought that as usual she would throw tantrums and strangle Rose for separating them. But nothing sort of that happened.
Her long face clearly showed that she had accepted her defeat. Theodore was puzzled but again he brushed away that unwanted feeling.
Wiping her tears Jasmine looked at him and bobbed her head. His eyes widened in shock but the ground was snatched beneath his feet after hearing her words.
“I am willing to do that but promise me that your brother would never bother Rose again.”
End of Flashback
Theodore still wasn’t over the fact that Jasmine left him. The girl who tricked him into marriage, stayed by his side, and craved his attention and love even when he spared no chances of humiliating her. Continued to push her away from him yet she kept weaving ways to woo him.
But today she left. Without a word.
Suddenly he felt anger coursing through his veins.
‘She isn’t her real sister then why the hell was she so desperate to save her life? What if I had told her the truth, would she have stayed then?’
“ANSWER ME, BROTHER!!!”
George’s roar pulled him out of his reverie.
His eyes instantly turned dark as he glared at George whose hands were on his collars, pulling them.
“George”
He warned him with a clenched jaw but George kept quibbling.
“No, I won’t stay quiet today. Tell me brother, you promised me that once you would get rid of Jasmine you will force Rose to marry me. Then why did you-”
“Shut the fuck up!!”
Theodore gritted, cutting him in midway, and yanked away his shirt from his grip. George was flabbergasted but before he could argue further, Theodore stood up and pushed him back making him stumble.
“I am the King of Theo Dynasty. My decisions don’t need your imprimatur, George. What I say becomes the law. Finally, I got rid of my unwanted wife and now you want to bring her sister into this mansion. Fucking move on and concentrate on the task. Call Kiora, I need to talk to her.” He spoke gruffly. George was stunned by his outré behavior.
‘Is he my brother?’
Theodore was incensed. Jasmine leaving him without a fight was affecting him. Her absence was making him frustrated. He wanted to focus his attention on Diana but George’s constant nagging was now getting on his nerves.
On the other hand, George looked at him sadly. He was his favorite brother but today he looked like a stranger to him.
Theodore groaned when he saw fat dollops of tears falling down George’s cheeks as he looked at him with disappointment.
“Fucking stop being a kid, dammit!! Listen, I had opened the portals so you need to bring Diana to me. And for that, you have to seek the help of Kiora as she would help you sneak into Zachary’s mansion without any hassle. So better call her right now without throwing tantrums or else I will send you to the dungeon for letting a devil breach my property.”
George blanched in shock, “B-Brother, you will send me to the dungeon? W-WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU? DID I BACK THE WRONG HORSE? YOU RENEGE THE PROMISE AND NOW YOU’RE THREATENING ME?”
He yelled but Theodore was unfazed by his tears. The hazel-eyed girl kept flashing in front of him. He was losing his mind and he knew the only way to regain his sanity was Diana. He needed to get her as soon as possible.
“Fine, you want it the hard way then. Guards.”
George was horrified when Theodore’s fierce growl boomed through the courtroom. Within a second, a group of guards rushed inside and surrounded George.
Theodore slowly stepped forward while maintaining his glare on his terrified brother.
“I am giving you two seconds, bring Kiora right now or I will throw you behind the bars. The choice is yours.” He spoke maliciously but his words left no room for any further discussion.
George sighed in defeat. It was just a do-or-die case.
Lifting his head, he clenched his fists and spoke while grinding his molars in rage.
“Alright. I will call her.”
