Chapter 46: Chapter 46
"Andre?" I shook my head at Daniel's crazy idea. "What kind of pseudonym was that?"
"You can't use your real name, can you? Mabel will know and immediately run away from us," explained Daniel briefly while taking off his thin fake mustache to disguise himself as Danny. "Then our disguises will only be useless,"
"When I said I wanted to come over there to see Mabel in disguise, I didn't mean to introduce ourselves to her as someone else. I just wanted us to disguise ourselves into the orphanage without having to talk to her,"
"There's no other way. So you just want to watch her from a distance without being able to talk to her? If I were you, of course I wouldn't. Because this is my golden opportunity," explained Daniel with a convincing expression like a salesman.
"If Mabel finds out the truth, she will be even more angry than she's now." I muttered more precisely to myself, because even though I knew the consequences, I still wanted to go just to hear her soft voice.
Daniel lay down on the couch and took his phone from his pants pocket. It hadn't been a minute since he stared at the screen of his phone and his forehead already wrinkled. "Tell me why after our holiday in Bali, Miranda acted as if she never knew me? She has become very distant now,"
"Here I thought you're still in contact with her," I answered briefly as I approached the window. I kind of went back to my old self, liked to stare at the scenery and wouldn't move from there until a few minutes later.
"I tried, but she's not even reading my texts."
"Has this city's playboy just been dumped by a woman?"
"Hey!" Daniel obviously didn't accept it when I said he was dumped by Miranda. His pride as the city's playboy suddenly fell.
I just laughed, after that I left the mansion. I needed to extinguish all the embers that were in my mind. My own mind even intended to destroy me from within. Seeing Mabel again after those few days felt so great. In just one glance at her figure, I came back to life, my breath returned. And damn, she was prettier than the last day I saw her. Her smile appeared this time, making me almost forget the tears she shed, but I couldn't wipe them away.
The city lights at night were so beautiful. I went around the city on a motorbike while breathing the cool night air. I missed Mabel. I missed riding with her and spending the night together. If only I could go back to that time, I would really enjoy our time together and stop pushing her away from me.
I accelerated the speed of my motorbike towards the hill, where I usually got my peace. But little did I know that things really weren't the same anymore. When I got there, I didn't find the peace I used to have. My chest became congested over the memories left in that place. Memories of the first time I brought Mabel to that place. I wished I could turn back time.
I sighed when my phone rang. It was from one of my men.
"What?" I flinched in surprise at the news that they had finally found the location where Anthonio Blake was. My smile formed perfectly on my face. Then there was no need to think twice for me to head over there and deploy some of my men to head over to that place, but certainly not to attack head-on. I needed to investigate undercover to find out what plans Anthonio was plotting.
The location of Anthonio and his men was in the hidden warehouse of the Blake Family. I remembered my grandfather taking me there when I was seventeen. At least I knew the way in through the secret door, especially since last I heard nothing had changed about that place.
When I got there, I made sure that all the guards at the secret door were surrounded and couldn't take any more steps to fight back. Then my men and I continued to advance swiftly. Making it inside, I found Anthonio's figure from a distance. He was talking to someone who was none other than Rainy. The two of them were in a big fight, but I had a hard time hearing the contents of the conversation between the two of them.
There were so many towering piles of boxes filled with illegal goods that it was easy for me to take a step forward surreptitiously. I finally got close enough between them and could hear what they were arguing about.
"This isn't just my fault, Anthonio! You decided to be a coward and chose to take me to run away here and there even though you have the power to beat Adrian!" Rainy, with a red face full of anger snapped at Anthonio who seemed to be burdened with a lot of pressure on his mind.
"You think it's that easy to do? Apart from Adrian, there are police who are also looking for us because of Ashton's report!" Anthonio couldn't contain his anger either. "If you hadn't gotten so screwed up by telling Mabel the truth of everything, then we wouldn't have ended up like this!"
Rainy was silent for a while before finally rebutting Anthonio's words. "I dared to do that because I thought you could protect me! But apparently I trusted a loser instead,"
"Well, you should have used your brain when you thought that!"
Wow, that was harsh.
"Son of a gun!" cursed Rainy, about to leave her place when Anthonio pulled her arm. "What else? You're still not satisfied with hurting me with your words just now?"
"We haven't finished talking. We still need a plan,"
Rainy sighed, calming her emotions. She nodded then answered. "Alright, what's on your mind?"
"You should apologize to Mabel. She's not going to let you be punished in court because I'm sure she will forgive you," Anthonio suggested. I nodded at that. It sounded wise. I was sure Mabel would forgive her.
"Are you out of your mind? Who would do that? Me? You think I'd be willing to apologize to her? Of course not. This is just the beginning of ruining her life, not destroying my self-esteem. You should be supporting me, not embarrassing me." Rainy refused flatly. "Besides, that can't be called a plan."
"There is no other choice, other than that as the best way." Antonio insisted on his plan.
"No!" Rainy refused for the umpteenth time. "I would never do that,"
"Stop being stubborn, Rainy. Our situation will get worse if this continues. My family doesn't even want to help me anymore. Please think carefully," Anthonio once again explained.
"I will use my own plan, Anthonio. Watch me," Rainy smiled widely.
"Just tell me what your plan is," Anthonio became curious. "I hope it won't worsen our situation,"
Rainy still just smiled, but then she took a step closer to Anthonio's body. Slowly her hand touched his arm and then down to his pants pocket. Instantly my breath stopped when I saw that there was a gun grip in it.
"What-" Anthonio didn't continue his question when Rainy took the gun from him. Then, as if understanding Rainy's thoughts, he blinked twice. "What the hell, Rainy? What were you thinking? You want to try to kill Mabel again?"
"What do you think?" Rainy grinned as she kissed the butt of the gun.
Rainy had really crossed the line. I couldn't just stay silent if it was true that she wanted to do the same thing. This time no sorry.
Anthonio shook his head, clearly disapproving. "I'm telling you there is a better way to solve this problem, and you are here thinking that killing Mabel is the way to go? I don't know what to do with you anymore, Rainy."
"All right, Anthonio! All right! You don't want to help me anymore? Okay! I know you don't love me anymore and you would rather see me suffer with all of this. Now I do everything according to my will. If you don't want to help, then fine. I will finish this all alone," Rainy replied as she pushed Anthonio's shoulder. "But don't regret it if I die because you weren't there for me!"
I stared at Anthonio's reaction who turned pale after Rainy's words. He was like the lovesick boy in high school.
"Rainy, come on. Don't say that. You know I still love you very much. In fact, I'm willing to continue to be with you to this day,"
It sounded corny coming out of Anthonio's mouth.
"Then help me," Rainy said. She actually used Anthonio's love for her own benefit. "Prove it, Anthonio. I promise this is the last time I bother you, and after? I will sincerely love you. We can live happily together. You can take me with you wherever you want,"
What kind of bullshit was that? My ears had been uncomfortable hearing the nonsense of their love. God, I wanted to leave this room as soon as possible.
Anthonio could only be silent, and a few seconds later nodded. Rainy could easily make him submit to her words.
"So, I'm going back to Mr. Castello's residence."
"When?" asked Anthonio.
"Two days after today," Rainy answered, explaining her plan. It made my fists clench with how eagerly she wanted to kill my innocent Mabel. "And there, I will act as if I'm sorry to them."
"And that's when you want to put your bullet in Mabel's skull?" asked Anthonio. He stared intensely at Rainy who smiled sweetly at him.
"You are right,"
"You're courting your own death if you do that in their presence!" Anthonio rubbed his face, probably tired of his ex's stupid thoughts.
"Whatever. I don't care anymore," Rainy replied casually, unlike Anthonio.
After that I couldn't bear to hear any more. I was so angry to hear it all. They really had no humanity. I was fed up and would end it all.
I walked out taking out my phone. I got all my men ready for that day and to keep a close eye on Mabel and her surroundings. I wouldn't let my guard down this time. After that I called Daniel and explained everything. He had another solution for that. I couldn't believe the solution he provided, but after I considered it, it couldn't hurt to give it a try. He advised me to come to Mabel myself and explain everything. Somehow I felt it was also my last chance to meet her, talk to her, and most of all, look her in the eye.
A moment later I was back riding my motorbike through the silence of the city. My thoughts kept going to Mabel. I really really missed her. I knew I would meet her the next day at the orphanage as Andre, but I couldn't survive that night not to go see her. So immediately, I directed my motorbike to her mansion.
A few blocks from Mabel's mansion, I got off my motorbike. My footsteps stopped when from a distance I found Ashton with her. The two of them hugged so tightly. I just stood staring at the painful sight. It was sad that I couldn't do anything to overcome my jealousy. But somehow I couldn't take my eyes off them. I just kept staring blankly.
Mabel looked happy with Ashton. Finally the man she wanted was back in her arms. I was happy for that, but on the other hand my heart hurt. I wished I could fix all the mistakes in the past, or even start over. But that's what is called regret; it comes at the end of a story.
The two finally let go of their embrace. Mabel walked into her mansion and Ashton was about to head into his when his eyes accidentally found mine.
