Chapter 11: Chapter 11

Unexpectedly, I ended up staying two nights at Adrian's place. I was confused as to why my father hadn't called me to question me all this time. He didn't even know where I was. Then how come he can be so calm and not contact me at all?

I fell silent when I remembered Ashton and Rainy already knew. They might had told him.

If yesterday morning I didn't find Adrian at home, it was different for this morning. He was still at home and only wore a plain black t-shirt paired with blue jeans. His hair wasn't completely dry yet, so I supposed he had just finished taking a shower and then headed straight into the dining room.

From the time I entered the dining room to sit across from him, Adrian was still busy staring at his phone screen. His fingers were busy typing. He was texting someone.

I could only tap lightly on the dining table with my fingers. Last night Adrian really helped me to sleep peacefully.

"So when do you want to go home? Your father has called me to ask about you," said Adrian without turning away from his phone.

I deliberately didn't answer him, waiting for him to look at me first.

"Mabel?" Adrian finally turned his gaze at me. "I'm asking you,"

"I know, but you didn't look at me when you talk." I stretched my arms while still returning his piercing gaze. "Tell my dad that I'm going home today," I added.

Adrian immediately went back to typing, telling my father.

"Are you busy today?" I asked, trying not to sound hopeful he wasn't busy.

"I have no schedule for today,"

"Really?" I looked at him with enthusiasm.

"Yeah, but I've made my own schedule after you asked." Adrian put down his phone, and gave me his most annoying grin.

I folded my arms across my chest and gave him a murderous look.

Our breakfast dish was ready. The servants were busy preparing it for us. I kept my gaze on the only person besides me at the dining table. But Adrian really didn't care, he ate deliciously without feeling the least bit guilty for making my morning cloudy.

"Since you said you're going home today, after breakfast I'll take you home."

"I didn't say I'd be home after breakfast. I meant any time today,"

Adrian stared at me in mute silence, his expression sour.

I stared back, challenging him. "I want to be with you all day,"

Adrian remained silent at my words. Does he even seriously want to marry me? Why do I feel like the only one trying to be with him and trying to like him?

"No. You must go home. This is the final decision,"

Annoyed, I got up from my seat in a huff. I looked at him one more time with irritation, before finally leaving the room. He wants me go home, right? I'm going home even without him giving me a ride!

I went to my room and took my phone.

I went straight to the main door, and I almost fell. I was shocked to see Adrian was waiting for me in front of his car. His eyes had already pierced my figure. He then got into his car.

I wouldn't just give up on my words too. I didn't want to listen to his orders or his words anymore. On purpose, I walked out past his car. I continued walking towards the exit which was already open. Strange, because I didn't hear Adrian's car following me. Even his bodyguards let me go. They really didn't do anything.

I walked out the gate, wondering why they didn't stop me from leaving? But I kept walking without looking back. After a few meters from Adrian's mansion, I started to feel tired. Stupid Adrian! He let me walk by myself? Or was I the fool for turning down his offer to give me a ride? I sighed, thinking the distance to my father's mansion was a bit far!

I stopped as I needed to catch my breath. I should have listened to my father to join gym class. Walking with sore foot and relying on a walking stick was really never on my list!

A familiar car stopped right next to me. The window was down, so I could see who the driver was. Adrian sat quietly wearing sunglasses. He turned his head towards me with the corner of his lips lifted. "This is the last time I'm offering you a ride. Get in my car," Adrian tapped the steering wheel in a rhythm. "Or do you want to continue your gym session?"

I ignored him, and kept walking.

Adrian continued to follow me, from the sound of his car next to me. "Stop being stubborn!"

"Watch your words. Don't call me that!" I didn't accept being called stubborn, even though I knew he was right about me.

I tried to quicken my pace, away from him. But which human can run faster than a car engine? And unfortunately, I tripped my own foot. "Ouch!" I screamed as my ass hit the ground.

Adrian immediately got out of his car. He reached me and checked my feet. "It's because you didn't listen to me,"

"Help me and stop talking!" I shouted, annoyed at his rambling.

Adrian picked me up and opened his car door. I sat up and breathed a sigh of relief when I finally sat down comfortably. And yeah, my butt hurts...

Adrian went inside and immediately started the car.

"I just want to be with you to know what you're going to do all day. I'm curious about what guys like you do every day," I said honestly.

Adrian's face softened. He sighed and took off his sunglasses. "You have to go home. Your family is worried about you,"

I closed my eyes letting my back head rest on the car seat and felt comfortable.

"Ashton too. Don't you miss him?"

I opened my eyes, giving all my attention to Adrian who was so easy to ask that question. Do I miss Ashton? Of course, I do. But after what happened, is he still willing to forgive me?

"I take your silence as a yes,"

I smiled briefly then looked out the window. There were two black sedans behind us based on what I saw in the rearview mirror.

"Ummm, Adrian? Aren't you taking me home alone?"

Adrian seemed to immediately understand my question. He cursed underneath. "Put on your seatbelt, Mabel!"

I obeyed what he was told, moreover his face stiffened and his ear turned red.

"They're not your men," I made a statement to myself. I started to panic.

I felt like I was on a rollercoaster ride. Adrian drove his car at super fast speed. My head even hit the window next to me as his car turned into a road with a sharp turn. My ears buzzed right after. I thought I was going to die soon because of it.

"Why are they after you?" I asked him, tightly gripping my seatbelt.

"You know who my family is, Mabel!" Adrian replied in a bitter tone.

Oh right.

My blood seemed to rise up to my face. My fear had reached its maximum limit. I had never been this scared. But looking ahead, and knowing how Adrian's car nearly hit another driver made my heart really stop beating.

My palms were getting cold, and I knew it wasn't a good sign.

"Mabel, get my phone in my pants pocket!"

"What?" I glanced at his pants.

"Take it and open my contact!"

I complied, took the phone. Adrian didn't use a password on his phone, so I could easily gain access to it. I opened his contacts and called the name he told me to call.

Adrian was now talking to the guy on the other line and I wasn't really listening. I chose to close my eyes, even though several times I screamed in surprise.

"Can you drive a car?"

I immediately nodded. "Of course, I can!"

"Take over my steering wheel,"

"What?" I shouted loudly. "Then where are you going? Jump out of the car?" I was really scared and trying to look calm. Even my energy was drained.

"Don't ask too many questions, Mabel. Just do what I say! I'll count from one to three. One..."

"Wait!" I was not ready yet, and Adrian didn't say he would count right away.

"Two..."

"Three!" I immediately jumped to grab the steering wheel when Adrian immediately moved to the back seat of the car. The sunroof of his car was already open, so he immediately climbed there and I started to hear gunshots. I almost jumped for sure.

I tried to concentrate, but even so I still trembled every time I heard the gunshots. The sound of car windows breaking was unavoidable.

Finally Adrian got off and took back control of his car. He somehow smirked in satisfaction. I was confused as to why he was satisfied, but after hearing a huge explosion sound from behind, I knew why.

"We did it, Mabel!"

I couldn't move my lips to reply to Adrian's words. My body felt weak and helpless.

"Mabel?" Adrian shouted my name. "Mabel, hang on!"

My vision started to blur. I slowly couldn't hear his voice anymore, and lost my consciousness completely.

I didn't know how long I was unconscious. I felt pain in my head, and nausea in my stomach. I tried to open my eyes, but they were so heavy. My forehead felt warm, somebody was compressing it with a warm cloth.

"It hurts, my head hurts." I grimaced. I could hear Sarah screaming, asking the doctor to come back to examine me. I didn't know what happened next. But I knew the doctor had come and checked me.

The darkness I saw slowly turned into a glimmer of light. I was surrounded by many flowers in the garden. The chirping of birds made a perfect melody. I saw the sky was so clear, and the cool breeze hit my skin. I was happy with what I saw, but I couldn't accept the fact that I was alone.

Where's everybody?

Again, my head hurt. I remembered what happened earlier. Adrian! Is he okay?

"Adrian!" I moved from my place around the place. It was silent, there was only the sound of water flowing from a clear river. I was almost frustrated that I couldn't find people anywhere. My fear was getting real. Everyone would go away from me. First my mother, and then all of a sudden, they left me too.

I fell to the ground and sobbed. Why did everyone leave me? I hated crowds, but I didn't want to be alone either.

"How does it feel to be alone, Mabel?"

I looked up, and found Rainy standing in a black dress. She looked at me with disgust, and all the bad stuff in her eyes.

"R-rainy..." I stuttered.

"You deserve this, Mabel. You deserve to be abandoned and forgotten,"

Those were the worst words I had ever heard from Rainy's lips.

"I'll take your father, and Ashton too. There will be nothing left for you. They will soon be completely mine," Rainy laughed, seeing me suffer. She then approached me and looked down at my face. I looked up as she roughly lifted my chin up with her index finger. "What if I just end your suffering now?"

I was too helpless to just push her hand away from my face. From her pocket, Rainy took a medium sized knife. I was focused by the knife so I didn't dare to move.

"Do you have a last message to say, Mabel? You look really scared right now," Rainy smiled viciously.

I closed my eyes right after Rainy prepared to draw the knife at me. "So? No message? Well then..."

I pressed my eyes shut, but I didn't feel the pain as I expected.

"Who said Mabel is alone? She still has me,"

Adrian!
