Chapter 231: Chapter 231
Six people, three men and three women, make up three pairs. Seeing this, Lawrence Winters happily sat beside Kenneth Osborne.
The meals had been ordered earlier and were served as soon as everyone arrived.
Lawrence noticed there were dishes she liked and said to Kenneth, "You should order something you like, too!"
Kenneth glanced at her and chuckled, "All the dishes here are good. I like them all." Updates are released by 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡•𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙚⚫𝙣𝙚𝙩
"Suit yourself." Lawrence just wanted to reciprocate the kindness, and left it at that.
Everyone started eating, chatting and laughing, in a cheerful mood.
After a while, Blake Leaf toasted Kenneth, laughing and saying, "I’ll rely on the boss’s guidance in the future!"
They all knew that Blake had signed with Kenneth’s startup, and now they were both boss and subordinate, as well as colleagues.
Kenneth took a sip, smiling as he said, "The company doesn’t have extra hands yet, besides writing programs, you’ll have to pitch in with other things too."
"No problem, no problem!" Blake agreed quickly and said to Lawrence and the others, "Don’t underestimate Kenneth’s startup; it has great prospects! Just the other day, I visited the office renovations and met several investors eager to collaborate, ready to throw money at Kenneth!"
"It’s not that exaggerated..." Kenneth laughed, "Our company is applying for the first round of venture capital, so there have been a few investors inquiring."
Joyce Shaw chimed in, "Currently, domestic artificial intelligence is just starting, and even abroad, it’s not particularly advanced, so catching up isn’t that hard."
He didn’t join Kenneth’s company but accepted Spencer Group’s offer; Kenneth’s previous position as a technical director was given to him.
Of course, Joyce’s other benefits weren’t as good as the offers Kenneth had gotten in the past, but Kenneth has many patents, which Joyce lacks, so he didn’t try to compare himself with Kenneth.
Lawrence looked around at everyone—under the bright crystal lights of the private room, the soon-to-be graduates were full of spirit, with Kenneth’s presence particularly powerful, overshadowing others.
She recalled seeing the fortune of Crazy Girl in the dormitory earlier and felt there might be some trouble between her and Joyce, but looking now, everything was smooth sailing.
Crazy Girl and Joyce’s life was harmonious, their relationship smooth, everything going well—of course, their career prospects weren’t as promising as Kenneth and Blake’s.
Which is understandable.
Joyce and Crazy Girl were office workers, with a focus on a stable career, even if they get promoted, their potential can’t compare to those who are entrepreneurs.
But entrepreneurs are different; they’re high-risk, high-reward.
Moreover, everyone’s fortune is constantly shifting, never constant.
Lawrence delightedly poured Kenneth a glass of red wine and said, "Kenneth, you’re staying in Capital City from now on, where will you live? Found a place to rent yet?"
Kenneth didn’t want to discuss this in front of so many people and simply shook his head, "I just got the office sorted and it’s being renovated. I don’t plan to rent; I’ll just find a temporary place to stay."
He actually wanted to buy a place and was currently working with a realtor but hadn’t found anything satisfying yet.
Lawrence blinked, "Huh? Are you saying you have nowhere to stay? Where will you settle temporarily?"
As she knew, graduates couldn’t continue living at school, and staying there would be too inconvenient for someone like him.
"Anywhere is fine, like short-term rentals, renewing month by month." Kenneth laughed, "After all, I’m just going back to sleep. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll stay at the office; it’s just Blake and me anyway."
Blake exclaimed, "Kenneth! You won’t let me live at the company, but you’ll stay there yourself! That’s unfair! I want to save on rent too!"
"The company’s in its early stages; we need to save money. I’m the boss—are you comparing to me?" Kenneth smiled undisturbed, picking up a celery salted peanut with his chopsticks.
"I was wrong! I was wrong! I won’t dare compare again!" Blake laughed, raising his hands in a mock ’surrender’ gesture.
Lawrence, lost in thought, took out her phone and messaged Kenneth: Kenneth, do you want to stay at my place temporarily? It’s better than randomly finding a short-term rental. My uncle says those rentals are unsafe, unhygienic, and have a mixed crowd.
Kenneth saw the message and it was just what he wanted, but he replied reservedly: Is this okay? With Auntie Wen and Uncle Zhang there, and you staying at home too, would it be too crowded for everyone?
