Chapter 4: Chapter 4

I had a peaceful sleep believe it or not only to wake up to the low chatter of people outside the bedroom door. I lazily sat up yawning with my arms outstretched, why were they making so much noise? I was having such a good nap. I dragged my lazy ass to the door, opening it only to be surprised to see my sister arguing with Cole, what the hell was she doing here? After Haley moved out our relationship became strained and every call would end in some sort of argument mainly involving why I'm such an idiot for taking care of someone who loathes my existence.

"The walking dead finally decided to greet us with her presence," Haley said sarcastically, she looked tired like she hadn't slept in days. Looking at Haley would be like looking in a mirror after all these years we still looked identical except her hair was longer than mine, her dark brown eyes scanned me up and down in disapproval as always.

"And I wasn't expecting a visit from the evil queen herself," I said, narrowing my eyes at her.

"Let's save the catfight for later we have bigger issues to solve," Cole said, getting in between us before we could start something.

"And what would be the issue?" I asked him, he looked anywhere but my eyes like he did something wrong. "Cole!" I impatiently said

"Ok I told her," he hurriedly said, my mouth practically hang all the way to the floor.

"What the hell is wrong with you?"I angrily asked smacking him on the arm

"Don't get your thong in a twist I don't really care that you killed someone as long as you don't bring the cops anywhere near my house or child got it," Haley angrily said

"I don't know whether you have a screw loose or were you just born that stupid," I asked

"I don't know not like I'm the one who started a multimillion-dollar company that's putting food on your table," She shrugged nonchalantly

"I don't know what crazy world you're living in but as you should know I have this thing called a job that pays me to buy my own food,"

"And how did you get that job?"

"With my own blood sweat and tears," I proudly said

"No hun that's not how you got here, I'm the one who had to practically bribe that stupid manager to accept your job application without my push you would still be looking for a job left and right," I was actually shocked to hear that, I should've never told her about my job application why do I tell her so much about my life.

"I would've gotten that job without your help," I said through gritted teeth

"No love you wouldn't have because we live in a world that's fucked up and that manager was a racist bigot who was ready to chew you out every single day if I didn't continue paying him to this day," I was speechless honestly I was, what was with Haley coming to my rescue when I didn't need nor want it. No, I was actually angry at my boss, I knew that no good for nothing waste of air had something on me with the way he kept a close eye on me and whenever I made one mistake hell would freeze over.

"Why?" I groaned just why couldn't I have something honest in my life besides Cole, wow I complained too much.

"That's what family does for each other even though I may not like the one I was born in doesn't mean I don't care what happens to you," She explained with a gentle tone,

"Awe I love family reconciliation," Cole happily said

"You're not out of the woods yet for what you did," I angrily said

"Calm down and please tell me you have her phone," Haley begged

"I do, what do you take me for an amateur?" I said rolling my eyes at her

"Do you guys just have murdering jeans built into your genes?" Cole asked us

"Probably," Haley answered

"You all need to see a psychologist,"

"Says the junkie," Haley rolled her eyes at him

"Leave me be this isn't about me, it's about the fact that Harley here killed someone and doesn't feel an ounce of remorse I mean how could anyone sleep knowing that," He seemed really stressed about this as sweat gathered on his forehead.

"Ok I felt like that was a personal attack but you can't blame me for this she fell down the stairs it's not like I pushed her,"

"Wait a minute you didn't push her?" Haley asked

"No,"

"Then why the fuck didn't you go to the police, now you've just made a crime scene for no reason and you definitely will be charged for her murder you imbecile," She said in disbelief

"How could I, all the evidence was against me," I tried to defend myself

"You're an idiot," she blankly said

"And you're a bitch,"

"Ladies come on let's focus on the real issue, we burned a body in the forest how is no one else apart from me freaking out about this,"

"Because you're an imbecile," Haley said clearly annoyed by his presence

"Leave him alone he did nothing wrong this is all my fault," I sighed

"Damn straight it is," Cole said

"You know what you're not helping yourself why don't you be useful and go make us some tea," Haley suggested

"Fine," Cole grumbled and left us alone, she finally let her guard down once he was out of earshot.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" She angrily said, slapping me hard across the face.

"Ow," I painfully said rubbing my aching cheek, that sure did the trick to wake me up

"Do you know how many problems this could bring for our family and my company? The company I worked so hard to build so Kyle can have a relaxed life, huh and that could fly out the window in only a matter of days," She angrily said through gritted teeth, kyle was her five-year-old son and one of the cutest kids I'd ever had the pleasure of knowing. I loved kyle I did with all my being and I would never wish any harm to come to him I'd sooner cut my own limbs off. She was right this could bring a lot of problems for us all and that made me feel even worse than I already did.

"I've got it sorted no one's going to find out," I said through gritted teeth

"Noone, you say? are you fucking insane it only took one look for that pig to squeal," she shouted outraged

"He was only trying to help me,"

"Don't give me that bullshit, there's only one way you can fix this?"

"What?"I asked

"Either you make sure that he doesn't tell anyone or I'll end him the same way you ended that bitch," She firmly said like that threat was supposed to rattle my feathers.

"I'd like to see you try, harm one strand of hair on him and I'll make sure you never see the day of light again" I warned

"Like you have any violent bone in you," she scoffed

"You don't know what I'm capable of sister, "We had a hot stare off before Cole came back getting our attention,

"Am I interrupting something?" he asked

"Not in the slightest," Haley said and stormed off

"I'm sorry I told her but you know I don't like being put under pressure it's just not my thing," he was right, being put on the spot wasn't his thing and that kind of ambush can send him over the edge.

"It's fine it's not your fault you were only looking out for me and that's more than I can ask of you," I said with a warm smile

"Good cause I do feel shitty about snitching on you but water under the bridge right?"

"Depends on who you're going to tell next"

"No one I promise she had the right to know and she threatened my life too," he was all over the place fidgeting with his hands like a mad man, a sure sign he wanted to smoke but was holding off.

"If you want to smoke or whatever go ahead just do it outside the house and make sure Kyle doesn't see you,"

"Thank the lord I was about to piss my pants here," he sighed in relief

"What?"

"Doesn't matter inside joke see ya," and off he went to get high under some tree and won't be seen for the next couple of hours. Great, now I was stuck with my least favourite people except Kyle. I loved him to death.

"Lucky me, what did I do to get the whole family here," Ma asked sarcastically with Kyle on her lap who was playing with a toy,

"I'm not even sure why she's here, but I only came here cause I got nowhere else to go," I said sitting on the couch

"Wait, did you finally break up with that Lion fella?" ma asked

"It's Liam and yes I did, found out the guy was cheating on me," I grumbled

"Serves you right," ma said with a scoff, she truly didn't want to see me happy and I could never understand why.

"Seriously what is wrong with you, were you raised in a barn?" Haley angrily said, here we go again they could never be in the same room for more than five minutes without being at each other's throats.

"Watch your tone you cow you're in my house and if you don't like the way I am then fuck off no one asked you to be here," Ma yelled frightening Kyle or jumped off her lap and ran to me, I picked him up and left the room to get some fresh air.

"It's alright love they're just having some disagreement," I said rubbing circles on his back, disagreement that might lead to a full-on brawl though.

"Why?" he asked, looking up at me with those adorable eyes of his.

"Well, family don't always get along,"

"Really?"He asked his doe brown eyes wide in curiosity

"Really but that doesn't mean we don't love each other any less,"

"Oh," he really seemed intent on paying close attention to everything I was saying, Kyle was a very fast learner. His intelligence is usually underestimated by his short figure making him look younger than he was, he had short black curly hair with tan kissed complexion. He was so cute it was impossible not to stare when you saw him in public.

"But I will forever love you," I cooed, tickling his side, he laughed so carefreely it made my heart swell. Seeing Kyle with Haley always made me jealous that she managed to do everything I wanted to achieve before the age of thirty, I wanted a family of my own but every guy I dated wasn't interested in settling down with me specifically because I wasn't an ideal mother figure or so my ex-boyfriend Liam told me before he dumped me.

"Wanna go for a walk?" I asked Kyle as I put him down

"Yes please," He excitedly said, I smiled down at him and held his hand walking down the pedestrian sidewalk. It was a beautiful day out with the sun shining high above us with a light breeze to make it an even more beautiful day. Kyle was telling me a story they told him in his class while happily swinging our hands. It was something about a hyena learning a lesson about eating other animals' food. Children I absolutely adored them with all my heart, they were just so innocent and pure and I couldn't wait to have my own even if I had to wait a couple more agonising years for that then so be it.

We each sat in a swing lightly rocking ourselves, I took a moment to breathe in some fresh air appreciating what a beautiful world we live in.

"Auntie?" Kyle said bringing me back from my daydream

"Yes?"

"Can you push me?" He asked hopefully his puppy dog eyes stole my heart

"Of course love," I said getting up to lightly push him

"Higher," he demanded

"Ok," And I pushed a little bit higher

"Even higher," He asked with a wide smile

"Hold it there champ you wanna go to the moon?" I chuckled careful to not push him too high

"To infinity and beyond, "He yelled, jumping off the swing after I pushed him a bit higher.

"Kyle!" I cried rushing to his side to see if he injured himself

"I'm fine Auntie, I'm a big boy now," He proudly said with a wide smile showing his missing front tooth.

"That you are," I chuckled, hugging him tightly with my racing heart.

"Can we go on the seesaw?" he asked excitedly, his eyes wide.

"How can I say no to you?" I ruffled his hair and he ran to the seesaw, getting on one side and waiting impatiently for me.

"Hurry up Auntie I wanna play," he wined impatiently

"I'm coming," I laughed sitting on the other end and pushing up not letting my feet leave the ground since Kyle was too short to push properly so I did all the work while he laughed in glee yelling 'Higher' every now and then.

"Ok I'm beat, I think it's time for you auntie to rest," I said, getting off the seesaw gently and sat on the grass.

"Awe one more minute please, "He whined

"We played for long Kyle now it's time to rest I'm sure you'll have plenty of time to play in the park when you get home,"

"No fair mom never wants to play with me," He grumbled, coming to sit on my lap.

"Your moms just a busy lady love I'm sure she wants to spend every waking second with you," I said pinching his adorable cheeks

"When are you coming to visit cause I got this cool new lego puzzle I want us to build,"

"How about I come over this weekend for a sleepover and we can stay up building the lego puzzle," I offered

"Yes" He excitedly fist-bumped the air

"Time to go I'm sure your mom is wondering where I took you,"

"Can I get a piggyback?" He asked hopefully

"Of course, up you get," I said once I was kneeling down, he got on my back wrapping his arms around my neck and legs around my waist.

"Giddy up Bessie," He lightly kicked my hip making me chuckle as I lightly jogged out the park.

"Heehaw," He said while laughing

We met Cole halfway back to my ma's place, he reeked of axe spray which he used to cover up whatever he smoked.

"Uncle Cole," Kyle said excitedly once he spotted him

"Hey buddy, long time no see," Cole beamed, I placed Kyle down and he ran into Cole's open arms. Cole lifted him in the air making him giggle, one would be surprised to see such a side of Cole but he was just a naturally caring guy who just seemed cold from the outside but once you got to know him you'd know he's just a diamond in the rough.

"Put him down before you make him sick," I told him with a light chuckle enjoying the view of a very happy Kyle.

Kyle didn't have the best upbringing because of his deadbeat dad who showed up whenever he wanted, drunk off his ass until Haley filed a restraining order on him and got full custody of Kyle. Norman Blansky was a piece of work alright and he didn't know when to quick, after the fallout with Haley he began constantly contacting me to beg Haley to see reason but I got sick and tired of playing referee so I blocked him and I haven't heard anything from him ever since. I'm glad he's out of their lives because they're better off without him, this family sure did have terrible luck when it came to men.
