Chapter 29: Chapter 29

While we waited for Adam's team to arrive I sat in my car looking through my phone of old photos of Randall and me making myself even sadder. He was dead and I had to come to terms with that but I didn't want to somehow I still thought I was dreaming and he would suddenly call me and everything would be ok that's why my phone was on loud just anxiously waiting for his call any call for that matter I just needed a distraction before I went loco.

After an agonizing five minutes of staring at my phone, Adam's crew arrived and I had the pleasure of Haley joining me in my car(Note sarcasm).

"Look I'm sorry about earlier I should've been more sensitive towards your situation," she sighed turning in her seat to face me.

"So what you want a trophy for good behaviour or something," I bitterly said, not taking my eyes off my phone.

"An apology on your part is also due," she sassily said

"I'm not one bit sorry for hitting you, you deserved it," I answered, refreshing my WhatsApp page once more but no new messages or missed calls.

"Alright that was fair but the mean words were uncalled for," she said

"Look who's talking," I muttered, nearly smashing my phone on the windshield out of frustration.

"Wow, calm down, the phone did nothing to you," she said, grabbing my phone away from me before I broke the damn thing.

"Dammit," I cursed burying my face in my hands in frustration

"I'm so sorry sis," Haley sympathetically said rubbing my back soothingly

"Why?" I asked my voice breaking as I sobbed praying with all my might this might just be just another horrible dream and I would wake up any moment to find Randall laying next to me with Lido at our feet.

"It's life, bad things happen and we can either move on or dwell in the past and let it consume you but I know you're stronger than that," she gently said pulling me into a side hug, was she right was I stronger than that? I wasn't sure of myself at the moment. I just wanted to crawl into bed and never get back up again.

"Now get up I'm driving," Haley ordered

"You're pregnant," I reminded her

"Don't mean I'm disabled," she argued pushing me out the door

"Fine," I sighed, switching positions with her. We didn't want to be questioned at the time so we left without their knowledge. If they needed us, Adam had my number and I'm sure they could just look up where we live.' Airplanes' was playing when Haley turned the radio on, fitting how the song matches my mood. If only I had a genie it would make life so much simpler but then again something else tragic would happen because that was life it sucked, it was unfair and complicated when it didn't need to be.

"Don't go down that rabbit hole trust me it'll get you nowhere but six feet under," Haley said on the way, noticing my brooding mood.

"So what?" I questioned with a sniff

"Oh don't do that whole pity party thing you can do that when you're home alone," she grunted

"Great therapist you are," I grumbled

"I know right and to think I do this for free," she joked trying to lighten my mood

I merely shook my head and looked out the window at the passing buildings, I wondered what could've happened to Randall, how did he end up like that and how did no one come to check up on him earlier. I know his sister is always nagging him twenty-four seven so why she wasn't the first to come to check on him puzzled me and quite frankly how did no one complain about the smell and if they did why did no one do anything about it people puzzled me.

I knew if he was here he wouldn't want me to wallow too much In my misery but that was just how misery was like my Lois Lane I needed it to know I'm alive. When things got bad I just tended to crumble down making things worse for myself that's the reason Cole always kept a close eye on me making sure I don't self destruct like he was my therapist or something. I mean no ill feelings but lately, he's been way too buddy with me constantly always on my tail I figured maybe he was just trying to annoy me but now it's been going on for days.

By the time we got to my place, I walked at a snail's pace to my bedroom feeling like I had a mountain on my shoulders.

"What the hell happened to the tv?" Haley asked, shocked at what she was seeing.

"Lila," I said before I stepped on one of Lido's squeaky toys, the thought of my furry little friend brought an overwhelming urge to cry my heart out. I crawled into bed pulling the covers over my head as I curled into a ball crying my heart out.

"Hay Hay," Haley sadly said rubbing my shoulder over the blanket, it didn't make me feel better it made it worse I tried so hard to stay silent but I couldn't as I was choking on my saliva.

"I'm so sorry this happened to you, truly I am," she softly said laying down next to me, she laid her head over my shoulder gently just letting me know she's there for me. We stayed like that for god knows how long before I cried myself to sleep, I wish I didn't fall asleep because once I did the horrifying image of a dead Randall greeted me in my dreams.

"Ah!" I ended up screaming myself awake, with my heart pounding through the roof as I woke up sweating profoundly.

"Hey, take a deep breath," Haley ran to me holding my shaking hands. I took her advice and took a deep breath to calm my racing heart. She looked deeply troubled by what just happened because she used to do the same thing when she lost her first child.

"What's with the screaming?" Lila waltzed into the room with a wide smile holding a glass of water she gave me.

"She had a nightmare you moron," Haley angrily said tightening her grip on my hands

"Ow," I grunted removing my hands from hers

"Sorry," she apologized before glaring daggers at Lila who sighed before joining us on the bed. I could tell this was very awkward for Lila since grief wasn't her thing nor was sadness she was a chirpy person who didn't deal well with discomfort.

"Say it like you mean it dumbass," Haley said flicking Lila on the head

"Ow you cow," Lila grumbled glaring at Haley

"You did not just call me a cow, do I look like a fucking cow?" She asked angrily, Lila and I looked blankly at her like did she want us to answer that, "Rot in hell both of you," she stormed out of the room leaving Lila and I smile at her.

"See I told her I was good medicine," Lila said referring to my smile which dropped when I remembered why she was here," Spoke too soon then," she sighed before surprising the life out of me as she smack dub kissed me on the lips, my eyes practically bulged out of their sockets as I pulled away getting some distance from her while covering my mouth with my hand.

"Was it that bad?" She pouted, crawling towards me slowly, I jumped off the bed not wanting the same thing to happen again.

"Calm yourself," I told her

"Awe come on don't you want one more," she said puckering her lips as she got off the bed and chased me

"No get lost," I yelled running into the kitchen feeling less like I was drowning and more like I was running for my life from a crazy chick.

"Let go of me," Haley grunted, shoving me when I pushed her in front of me as a human shield against Lila who was trying to get to me.

"Come on you're going to use a pregnant woman to be your shield," Lila asked with a raised brow

"Excuse me I'm not fucking disabled you bunch of monkeys," she said angrily heading to the couch, I tried following her but she stopped me in her tracks.

"As much as I love you getting up and about I'm not a damn shield got it," she said with narrowed eyes

"Got it," I said

"Good now make me something I'm starving," she ordered

"Excuse me I'm not your maid," I said

"You heard the lady make us food peasant," Lila agreed, sneaking up on me with a quick peck on the cheek. I jumped away from her like she was on fire.

"Down girl," Haley ordered Lila who pouted and sat next to her. I wasn't sure what they were going to do with no tv to watch and when they realised that they looked at me.

"I'm not a millionaire you know," I said heading to the kitchen, I decided to just make some grilled cheese since I wasn't really hungry or in the mood to make a big meal.

"You could've asked me for help you know," Haley said

"I don't need any charity, I can take care of myself, I just need to save up is all," I said, turning the sandwich toaster on.

"Or you could accept some help and we would have a tv to watch right about now," Lila pouted

"Why are you even here?" I asked

"Rude," she grumbled

"I invited her over for a girls night," Haley answered

"Where's Sarah then?" I asked

"Oh you didn't hear she moved out back into her old boyfriend's place," Lila said, at the words 'Didn't you hear' my heart skipped a beat remembering those were the words Haley said when she called me about Randall, the knife I was holding fell out of my hand clattering on the kitchen counter as I envisioned myself back in that flat staring at his decaying body with my throat clogging up.

"You alright?" Haley asked looking up from her phone

"Ya," no I wasn't but that didn't matter. It was better if I focused on one thing only so my mind didn't wander into unwanted territory.

"Great then hurry up I got places to be," she said

"You are bossy you know that right?" Lila told Haley

"Good," Haley replied not even batting an eye in Lila's direction

"Where are you going?" I asked her

"Home don't be surprised but I do have an actual life you know," she said

"Wow and here I thought you did nothing all day," I sarcastically said

"I wish," she replied shaking her head

"Wouldn't it be amazing to just have everything you want to be handed to you on a silver platter," Lila sighed imaging a world like that

"Then we'd all be millionaires," Haley said thinking the same thing as Lila

"It would be hell on earth, you know how people here just want more and more without giving back," I said, getting some glasses out for us, "Wine anyone?" I asked

"Isn't it a little too early for that I'm not complaining or anything?" Lila asked

"It's never too early for wine, now do you want some or not?" I asked

"Ya," she answered with a grin

"What about me don't be so rude pour me some," Haley complained

"Not a chance in hell," I said pouring some juice for her

"You'll regret that later," she threatened

"Ya ya, whatever," I said, taking the sandwiches to the table with Lila taking the drinks.

"Cole has been calling me nonstop," Haley said once we sat down to eat

"Why?"I asked with a mouth full of food

"Well cause he wants to comfort you for crying out loud," she said

"What for?"I asked narrowing my eyes at her

"Because you know I told him what happened and he wants to come over but I held him off for some time but now he's on his way," she said making me lose my appetite

"Of course you told him," I sighed annoyed at her

"Why wouldn't I, you two are practically siblings," she said, outraged only if she knew what we did she wouldn't be calling us that.

"Ya we're not siblings," I corrected her

"Then married couple but he's almost here and I for one don't want to be here when he goes mother mode it just gets creepy real fast," she said

"You haven't even finished your meal," I said

"I'll finish on the way, my cabs going to be here in less than five minutes so we'll talk later and try not to kill someone," she said before taking her sandwich and heading out.

"Bye," I waved back slowly wondering why she was in such a hurry

"She's probably heading to the clinic," Lila answered my unasked question

"Oh right but it would've been nice if I could've tagged along," I sighed

"She didn't think you were ready for that," she said which was true I wasn't. I didn't even want to think about it at this very moment because not even two weeks ago did I just bury my mother. Now I had to bury my boyfriend. I was having a stroke of very shitty luck.

"She doesn't think I can handle anything, it's just her way of thinking but whatever," I grunted, stuffing my face with my food.

"You got a little something here," Lila pointed to the side of her cheek, I tried to wipe it away, "Let me," she said leaning forward to remove a crumb of bread from my cheek with her thumb,

"Thanks," I said as she sat down, I assumed she was going to flick it off her thumb to the plate but she surprised me when she licked it off her thumb slowly maintaining heavy eye contact with me, not going to lie it was a little bit arousing.

"Mh yum," she hummed licking her lip

"Right," I awkwardly said looking down at my plate

"Awe don't be so shy," she teased laughing at my flustered form

"Shut up," I yelled, flicking a piece of bread at her but she skillfully dodged it and continued to laugh at me.

"Where is she?" Cole barged into the house slamming the door open in a frenzy as he quickly glanced around the room searching for me.

"Right here nutcase," I grumbled hoping the force of the door handle didn't chip the paint on the wall.

"Bambi," he cried rushing to me pulling me into a massive hug

"Ok, I'm fine as you can see now let go of me before you suffocate me," I grunted trying to wiggle out of his hold.

"You heard the mistress let her go, "Lila warned Cole pointing her knife at him

"Mistress?" I asked with a scowl getting out of Cole's hold since he was a bit occupied with having a knife pointed at him.

"Ok what's your problem Lila I thought we had something," he sadly said

"Awe yes we do just not when you trying to take my girl," she said

"Fair point but all is fair game here," Cole proudly said, slinging his arm over my shoulder casually. I didn't know what those two crazies were talking about but I wasn't interested in getting between them because once I chose a side, there's bound to be a stupid war between them.

"You can fight outside just don't break anything, got it," I told them heading to the kitchen with the dirty plates.

"Where's my plate?" Cole pouted

"You're about ten minutes too late buddy," Lila smirked

"I'm very tempted to throw you out the balcony right about now," he admitted

"Glad we feel the same way," Lila said

"Ok I don't know what's with you two but take it down a notch and be useful and figure out a way to get me a new tv cause it sucks here without it," I said missing my tv

"Already covered babe," Cole proudly said

"Babe?" Lila and I questioned at the same time

"Ya trying something out," He shyly said

"Please don't," I cringed

"Ya what she said only I can call her that, right babe," she batted her eyelashes at me

"In your wildest dream," I scoffed, Cole laughed at her failed attempt, she made him pay by kicking him in the shin. Those two acted more like siblings than Haley and I ever did.
