Chapter 30: Chapter 30

KIARA’S POV

Warmth flowed through me as a hand was placed on my shoulder. I didn’t have to look up to figure out that it was Kevin.

I jumped to my feet and turned around so that I was facing him. My lips pursed into a thin line as I took his hand in mine. “I am so sorry, Kevin. We were a bit late… those b******s gave father the vile potion…”

He rubbed the pad of his thumb against my chin and said, “Hey! Don’t worry love. Vally can help us with that…”

Then he went and sat beside his father. Squeezing his hands, Kevin said in a shaking voice, “You scared me today… I don’t know what I would have done if anything had happened to you…”

Kevin’s father massaged his head and said, “ You should probably move away from me… For some reason, I have this intense urge to bite someone…”

“Hell No, this can’t be happening.” Valence exclaimed as she rushed forward to check his eyes.

“Ariana said that she had modified the potion in such a way that she would never have to force the werewolves to attack someone… I think she used it on your father, Kevin.” She ranted as she continued to take his pulse.

Kevin’s face turned paler than a ghost and he staggered. Shaking his head, he whispered, “What will we do now?”

My heart ached to see him in pain. I pulled him into a hug and said, “You go and get the doctor. We will find a way to save him…”

“Yes… Of course… the doctor… I will go and fetch him…,” He said pulling away.

Valence went along with him while Nivaan and Adrian went to make preparations to keep Father restrained in case he got out of control.

I opened the drawer to take out the anti silver but I was grabbed from behind. Father’s dangerously low voice sounded near my ears, “You know all I can think about is sinking my teeth in your neck. So, unless you want to die start talking…”

I could feel his breath on my neck and sense that his teeth were just inches from my skin. I had to stop him from doing this at all costs. If something happened to me, it would destroy Kevin.

“I know what you are going through but believe me you don’t want to do that… the terrified look of the boy I first killed haunts me to date…”

“You couldn’t possibly KNOW what is happening to me right now... YOU were never forced to drink that damned potion!”

Exhaling deeply, I whispered, “I was…”

His hold on my neck loosened. Taking advantage of this opportunity, I grabbed a syringe of diluted wolfsbane and stabbed him with it.

The hazy look in his eyes cleared and he released me. Shaking his head he said, “Don’t tell me I was going to bite you…”

He staggered slightly and grabbed the edge of the bed to stabilize himself. I made him sit down and said with a weak smile, “You were but you didn’t…”

He grabbed his head in both his hands and said in an urgent voice, “You must kill me, Kiara… You must kill me before I hurt anyone…”

I sat beside him and took his hands in mine. Looking right into his eyes, I said, “We won’t let you hurt anyone…”

His eyes teared up as he said, “Promise me one thing, Kiara… you will kill me if I become out of control.”

“That won’t be necessary Alpha Gilkins. With these silver chains and Vally’s magic, we will keep you in check,” Nivaan said as he walked in with valence. He was wearing a special suit and a pair of gloves to protect himself from the silver.

My eyes darted to the entrance and I asked, “Where is Kevin?”

“Umm… the doctor is not being cooperative. He is trying to persuade him…”

“I will go and check…” I said, jumping to my feet and went outside.

I found them standing in front of the car. The doctor was gasping for air while Kevin held him in an iron grip.

I let out a long deep sigh and called out, “Kevin! Let him go at once…”

He looked at me sheepishly before finally releasing him. Dr. Grimson bent over his knees and gasped as he tried to get air into his lungs.

“I will take it from here, Kevin,” I said in a stern voice. He opened his mouth to protest but I said firmly, “You should go inside…”

Displeasure was evident on his face as his eyes darted from me to the doctor. He looked at me one last time before storming inside.

“Is it your turn to torture me now?” Dr. Grimson said eyeing me warily.

My lips pursed into a thin line as I shook my head, “I intend to persuade you…”

He let out a dry laugh and said, “For the love of Jove. I am not helping those monsters.”

He seemed very bitter. Even if I explained everything to him, he wouldn’t help us. I had to find a way to break through his defenses.

“Let us sit in the car… you take the driver’s seat…”

He looked at me with a bewildered expression and said, “Is this a new game you are trying to play with me?”

“I would never do that… Remember you saved my life…”

He chuckled as he got into the driver’s seat. “Do what you want Kiara. I will never agree to help them…”

“I will make a deal, doctor. Listen to my story with an open mind. If you still feel that you don’t want to help us, I will let you drive away…”

“Fine… I am listening…” He said turning to face me…

I held back nothing. I told him everything right from the time my parents were burned in the fire. How I was turned into a poisonous werewolf, how he had cured me of the poison and why we needed him to cure others…

He looked at me with disbelief and said, “Couldn’t you have come up with a better story?”

I was taken aback by his response. I had really expected him to help us. I licked my lips and tried to explain, “I wasn’t lying, doctor…” but the doctor interrupted, “I listened to your story as agreed Kiara. Now, it is your turn to let me go… Or are you planning to go back on your words…”

The way he looked at me was too much for me to bear. I got down from the car and let him drive away. I knew that Kevin would be furious but I just couldn’t bear to force him to come with me…
