Chapter 16: Chapter 16
Sunny
"Seriously? He really did that?" he asked, still not believing what I shared with him.
Nodding my head furiously, and said, "I am not lying. Steven really did that. He stood up for our section as well as the other sections that were also victims of Mr. Prile." I added.
"He does not care about the others, so why now?" Mavin asked. "He is not the type who will stand up for someone, especially when he is not close to them. Why?" He turned to me and asked.
I stopped wiping the table. "Why are you even asking me? You are his brother. You must know him better than I. And if he stood up for us, maybe it was because he could not stand the torture we have been experiencing. If you were in our situation, would you do what he did?" I asked him back.
"Of course! The second time I experience that, I will make sure to rebel. Who is he to make me suffer like that? I will make him pay for what he did to me." He replied.
"See? Even if you are not that type of person who would not stand up for someone, you won't help yourself but to do it." I explained.
Only Steven had the guts to do that. We never dared to say anything before, but because of him, we will have our PE next time properly. We are sorry for Mr. Prile, but this is his punishment for what he did. I hope this will be a lesson for him. That he should not do it and abuse his power.
"So, what happened next?" Mavin asked.
I continued wiping the table. "After confronting Mr. Prile, he asked him to show us his lesson plan. For us to know if it is in the lesson plan or if he just wants us to suffer." I shared, moving to the nearest sink to wash the cloth. "Mr. Prile said that he would get his lesson plan for a while. And you know what Steven asked Mr. Prile that time?" I asked.
"What?" he asked. "What's with this cliffhanging story time? Tell me without stopping, my curiosity is killing me here already." He added.
After washing the cloth and squeezing the cloth dry, I moved to the vases and started to wipe them. "He said, 'How many minutes do you need?' and then Mr. Prile said, 'I just need a few minutes. Why?' and Steven was like, 'I need to know exactly how many minutes you need. I won't let you make a lesson plan.'"
"Oooh. I admit that it was cool to hear." Mavin complimented.
"I told you! He was so cool at that time. I was wondering if he was really Steven at that time. After hearing him say that, I feel like we do not need to be scared at all. We put all our trust in him." I said.
"So, what happened next? Does that Prile guy have his own lesson plan or none?" he asked.
I shook my head. "Doc. Abalino asked for Mr. Prile's lesson plan. We got scared that time. He was smiling as he handed his lesson plan to Doc. Abalino that time. And when she browsed the lesson plan, she handed it back to our professor afterward. Mr. Prile's lesson plan...it's blank. As in blank. His arrogant face turned shocked and he even tried to browse through his lesson plan a few times." I continued.
"Seriously?" he asked again.
I nodded. "I am not lying. Why would I lie about it? I am just sharing with you what happened that day. He should have told you about this, not me. You even knew the story in me, not from your own brother. You guys need to bond sometimes. It looks like you are not living in this house together." I replied.
"We all know he is not that kind of person to do that. I need to learn things from the others rather than from him. If he did that out of the blue, that would be weird." Mavin said. "Did he go somewhere before that big confrontation happened?" he asked.
"He went out to the bathroom. He even asked me to count how many minutes it would take for Mr. Prile to get his lesson plan." I answered. "Did he get scared that time? You know, we are in a hard situation. If I am in his shoes, I will not just pee, I will make sure to poop as well, out of nervousness." I added.
"He did not go to the bathroom that time." Mavin said that made me look at him.
"What do you mean? So, where will you go at that point? Do not tell me that he was about to ditch us that time?!" I exclaimed.
Mavin shakes his hands. "No. I did not mean that. I won't accept that move as his brother, you know?" he explained. "Instead of going to the bathroom, maybe he went to the other section about their situation with that Prile guy. After collecting information, he went to the office of your Dean." He reasoned it out.
Well, he is right. It took him more than two minutes before he went back to the court with Doc. Abalino.
How did he manage to think and do that in that span of time? If I was him, I am sure that I am panicking already, or I would not be able to think of that. I tend to overthink rather than think of better ways to save us. I need to practice that kind of habit and lessen mine.
"I think so too. How awesome he is. What did your mom or dad do so that he ended up being too smart? I envy him." I said.
I envy people who are smart. I badly want to be like them. Smart to the point that I won't have to think about the answer to anything. So that I will be able to finish my schoolwork in a short span of time. It would be awesome if that happened, but no. I am not and won't be in the next year or future.
"Mom is pretty intelligent. Dad shared that mom loves to study. He even shared that books before boys, according to my mom." Mavin shared.
Nodding my head off. "That is why. I guess they are both pretty and handsome. Look at both of you. You guys are handsome. Total definition of tall, white, and handsome." I complimented.
"We know that. But you are pretty too. I met a lot of girls outside, not totally met because we never talked or anything. They are more into make up and such to make their faces more pretty. And you are just with your simple look." He said. "Simple but elegant. Like our mom." He added that made me hide my face out of shy.
"What?" he said. "I will show you my mom. Wait a minute." He added and fished his phone out. After a few seconds, he showed me his phone and I saw a beautiful woman smiling, holding a flower and wearing some casual clothes. She stands out more because of her simplicity. No wonder Mavin and Steven look good. "And this is our father." He added, and swipe to the next photo. Showing a handsome man sitting on a chair while sipping―I think it is wine. He is just...handsome in all aspects. He is only wearing simple plaid pants and a white shirt.
It does not look simple at all. They both look cool.
And just a few minutes ago, Mavin compared me to his mom. His mom, who is pretty?
"How dare you compare me with your beautiful mom?" I asked Mavin. "Do not belittle your mom. She is so gorgeous!" I added.
I am offended by what he did. Her mom is pretty, and no one should dare compare me to her.
"You are funny. I can see what you are thinking already. Okay, so I won't compare you to my mom. I just want to say that you are pretty too." He complimented. "You don't just smell good, but pretty too."
"You are flattering me too much." I told him. "But do not include the smelling good thingy. You are still creeping me out with that line of yours." I followed up with some facts.
He laughed. "Anyway, ask Grandma to cook something new but still delicious, alright? I want a new dish today." He said.
"I will tell her." I replied.
"Meat, okay? I love meat." He reminded.
"I will tell her again. You have no work for today?" I asked.
He was already in the sala watching movies when we arrived. Even when I started cleaning, he was not doing anything. After finishing the movie he was watching, he went to me while I was cleaning the third floor. While we were sharing some stories, I was able to finish both floors. And now I just finished wiping the tables and vases while we are talking.
"Night shift." He answered. "I am on my night duty now." He added, without explaining much.
"Why aren't you resting? You should take these hours to rest so that you can work well later. Why do you keep on talking to me as if you do not have work later?" I asked him continuously.
"I am the boss. I can just sleep later. Why are you so worried?" he asked back.
"Even if you are the boss, you should not do that in front of your employees. You must be one of the good influences. How will they work with passion when one of them is not doing well at all? You will burn their passion to work, you know?" I explained.
As a person who has a higher position, I will make sure to work hard so that I can make my employees work well too. They will know that I work diligently, and it will help them to work, burning with passion.
"I will work hard from now on, Ma'am." He replied, with his right hand on his temple, acting like he was saluting me.
"How about Steven? He has never gone out of his room since this morning." I asked.
I never saw him go out of his room. Or did he just not want to go out because he did not feel like it?
"Oh him? Now you ask him, I think he still feels sick." He replied.
"Why? Does he still have colds? He was okay the last time I saw him." I asked.
Why is his fever going back?
"Do you remember the accident where you thought that he was a cannibal or something?" he asked back.
I nodded. "Why? How is it connected to his condition?" I replied.
"It has an after effect. The bite of that dog was stronger than we expected." He reasoned out.
"Let's check him out at the nearest hospital. They will know what to do with him, and we will get the right prescription for him." I told him, panicking.
Is it because of rabies? That dog did not get any anti-rabies at all?
That is not good at all.
"Calm down." Mavin said. "We had him checked by our doctor. He is taking some pills for the pain and such. He will be okay soon. Do not worry too much." He added.
We went down to see what my grandma was doing. She is already cooking something in the kitchen. Fortunately, grandma is cooking something with meat that Mavin requested.
"Ready the table and call the two to come down for them to eat already." Grandma said. "Have you finished cleaning the two floors?" she asked.
I nodded back. "Yes, grandma. I am done cleaning them and finished wiping the tables and vases too." I replied. "How about you? Do you need help or are you done?"
Grandma nodded. "I am okay. I am done cleaning my floor too. After this, let's rest before going home." She said.
"I am okay, grandma. We also do not have any assignments to be done. Let's rest for an hour before going home. We do not need to rush ourselves, okay?" I told her.
"Mavin―oh okay? I will go and call him out. You guys will eat it in a few minutes." I said and headed up to go to Steven's room.
Mavin was talking to someone on his phone.
"Steven?" I called after knocking on his door. "The lunch is ready." I added.
"I will be out in a second. Thank you." he replied.
"Okay!"
He does not sound sick. It's a good thing he's fine now.
