Chapter 14: Chapter 14

Steven

"How is your school, Steven?"

"Have you gained friends?"

"How about your future partner?"

"Mom, it is too early for that," I answered, one of their never-ending questions. "I went there to study, not to find my future mate." I added. "It is not a university for finding your mate, Mom. I just want to remind you." I reminded my mom.

"But Mom, do not worry too much. He made new pretty friends. They smelled nice too." Mavin commented, spilling the things he should not have to in the first place. What a nosy brother.

We are currently in our parents' house. Since it is the weekend, we decided to visit our parents, or else we would get visited by our parents in our home. It is better to visit them rather than have them visit us.

"Really? How is your health?" Dad asked after sipping his morning coffee.

"I am doing well. The scratches that Beta made... I think he never intended to kill me in one shot. The poison is not that lethal. I guess we need to be sure about the human safety at night." I replied.

"Yes, mom and dad, he is right. That is why, since that night, we have implemented level three security. When that event happened, his friend happened to be there. There is a big possibility that they might try to harm humans too." Mavin explained seriously.

Yes.

I am a werewolf.

My family are werewolves too.

We are hiding our identity from those humans who do not know about our existence. We must.

"Luckily, he was diagnosed by their nurse as a human who had a cold and his friends did not ask anymore because it was normal for them." Mavin laughed as he sat in his chair.

"At least I never let them know about us. Unlike you, who is really showing himself." I replied.

"Mavin, are you really showing off about us? It may be dangerous for the both of you if they find your true identity." Mom asked worriedly. "That is why I told you that separating from us is really a bad thing." she added.

Our mom does not want us to live on our own. She is scared that we might not be safe and might be in danger.

My mom is a human who became a werewolf in the process. My dad made her into one with my mom's consent.

"They are old enough to do what they want to do, Hun. Let them feel their freedom. We should not keep them at all. They need to learn. They are alpha. They can protect themselves from the others. Let's just believe in them." Dad added, convincing my mom.

"Yes, mom. Dad is right." I replied. "We are safe there. And it was the first time I encountered it after living there for months. I can manage myself. I just don't know about him." I answered, pertaining to Mavin.

"Do not say things like that. You never saw me fight with one. You know what my work is and what I do every day? I won't be working there if I am weak. You keep on downgrading me. I am stronger than you." Mavin commented back.

"You guys still can't stop bickering, huh. I wonder how you guys live there with only two of you." Dad commented. "Remember that we are living in this country legally. Their government is helping us, and we are doing it for them as well. "They help us keep our identities hidden from the other werewolves, and we help them stay safe from the wild werewolves." he added.

Human and werewolf governments. It sounds ridiculous, but somehow, the government knows about our existence. My father said that our great-great grandfather managed to be civil with the humans. Help each other and maintain peace and a good relationship with them.

We, the werewolves, have our own government too, and my parents are the ones who are handling it. It was passed from generation to generation. When our grandfather died, dad followed and started to manage until now.

They keep the humans safe from those wild werewolves and any other creatures that do not want to cooperate and want to harm the humans.

"Right, Dad. There are still bad werewolves in our city. I also read the papers about it, and we were not able to find him. He is an alpha. We are not able to trace him at all." Mavin commented.

Mavin is working under our parents.

In every city, we have different office headquarters. Acting like a human who is working diligently to help the country progress. Although we help the country progress, we still need to keep our identity secret.

Well, whoever a human individual might find out about us will faint at this rate. Who knows if the stories they are watching on television or reading from books are true?

"How about the beta who attacked Steven?" Mom asked.

"He is in jail already." Mavin replied.

We have our own jail too. We all have things and such, like what the people have.

"He is not saying any words to us. I think he belongs to the clan that is opposed to us." Mavin added. "Based on the information from the other wolves that we caught under them." he added.

Even though we help humans out. There are still wolves who do not like the idea. They do not want to cooperate with us and with humans. Dad said they wanted to govern everyone under their control and that is why they opposed us.

"What about the human who saw him?" Dad asked.

"Oh, her? Do not worry, Dad. She did not know anything. Actually, she is Steven's classmate and our friend too. She is kind. She meant no harm to us." Mavin answered.

"What do you mean by she meant no harm? How can you say that the woman we are talking about is safe and she won't surely kill the both of you?" Mom asked, with her eyebrow raised. "This is the first time we will talk after you moved from that place. You need to be suspicious of everything." she reminded us.

"Sunny saw me. She really did. I told one of our workers about it and let her guard her at their house," I explained. "She didn't say anything, didn't tell her parents, and didn't even go to the police station to report it. She just thought that I was a cannibal for eating the dog alive." I added.

They all laughed at me, especially Mavin, who heard the story twice and kept on laughing as if he had heard it the first time.

"Well, we can consider that night cannibalism. You are biting the same specie of you." Dad commented, smiling as he sipped his drink.

That night, I was walking on my way home from our school. I felt the presence of that beta. To avoid making a scene, I led him to a place where it was dark. We started fighting, and unfortunately, Sunny went to the scene, where the other beta changed his form quickly, seeing me eating a dog.

"Are you sure that she is safe? Is she not aware of your identity and won't kill you behind your backs?" Mom asked worriedly again.

"No, Mom. Trust me. She and her grandmother were kind," Mavin replied. "We observed their family for a week. They do not have the signs of those people who knew about us and wanted to eliminate us. Coincidentally, her grandmother applied for the housekeeping position in our house, which we learned after taking her grandmother's work because she was sick at the time."

"The worker who observed her that night said that she kept on walking back and forth in her room. saying that eating the dog alive is bad. She even tried to avoid Steven."

"Grandmother Felicia asked me that day if she wouldn't be able to attend her work, but her granddaughter would. I said yes and I saw Sunny, Steven's classmate, cleaning our house and learned that they were a family," Mavin shared. "Although Sunny finds me creepy every time I tell her she smells great, they are treating us well, especially her grandma. We always have delicious food because Grandma Felicia will leave us food for days until she comes back."

"It is a good thing that they are one of those good humans." Mom exclaimed joyfully.

"Yes, Mom. That is why you do not have to worry about us. Sunny even took care of Steven at their school when he got sick. She is kind and good at cooking, like her grandmother. We can trust her and her grandma." Mavin added, almost spilling everything that happened.

"I am happy that you gained kind friends, Son. I thought you would be having a hard time socializing with them since you are not comfortable around them." Mom said.

Yes, I am not comfortable with humans for some reason. But Sunny and our classmates seem to be kind and approachable. I don't find them harmful or anything. I guess I can open up a bit with them. I can also hear what they are talking about us, Sunny and me. I really need to move somehow.

I will try to talk to them. I should. I must.

"They are kind, as long as it is not about assignments." I replied.

"Why?" The three asked me in return.

"They are kind of wild about it." I answered.

"Wild? Why?" Mavin asked.

"Their school has this kind of ritual. If you are new, you will have to introduce yourself in a different way. They made me shout and copy what they did," I shared. "As to assignments or anything, my assignment is their assignment too. If we have an assignment, it is like a big war inside our room. The paper I lent to Sunny went to our classmates, and it came back untidy."

"They have this rule to help each other and not let the other classmates fall back alone. They shared their notes, assignments, ideas, and even recitations, as long as they didn't get caught by our professors. They want to graduate altogether." I shared.

"Oh my gosh, son! You are with the right people!" Mom exclaimed with glee.

"Am I?" I asked back. "I do not think so." I added.

"That is one of the qualities of good people. I am really happy and thankful that you are with the right people. Just go with the flow and help each other, okay?" Mom said.

I nodded back.

"So, that means that Sunny is kind and not harmful?" Dad asked Mom.

Mom nodded. "Yes, Hon. Sunny is okay, and so are their classmates. Steven is safe," Mom replied. "When I was still studying, me and my friends were doing that. We want to pass every subject together. That is why we are doing our best to help each other. It would be a nice memory." Mom shared.

"Good thing Mom has experience," said Mavin. "We do not have to worry about it."

Yes, I do not have to worry about my classmates and stuff.

I am just worried about how to approach them since Sunny is telling me to do it.

I have no idea what to say because this is my first time in this type of situation.

Although I want to try it, I never thought I had many things to consider before going out. Like I need to make friends and do things they usually do. I just want to study and graduate―alone, but not anymore.

"Do you treat them good?" Dad asked me.

Mavin, beside me, shaking his hands. "No, dad. Sunny said that he does not talk too much. She also said that he always forced her to go to the library with him when she did not want to in the first place." he shared, replying on behalf of me.

"I need her to accompany me or else the other students will try to talk to me and ask for my number, which I do not have any plan to do."
