Chapter 24: Chapter 24
As I was trying to forget about the dream, the knock on the door startled me. It was Myra. One of the demon. She was the one who arranged my wardrobe and had good knowledge about the clothes to fit. Calling her a fashion designer would be a bit of a stretch. Like Kira, she was also not scared of me. But also not very talkative.
Sometimes I think that should resent me for being a human. It wouldn't be surprising because their own King has a grudge against humans.
As she entered the room I stood up from the bed. My eyes automatically shifted towards the clock and I sighed. Only an hour till the dinner. No wonder Lukas sent Kira to invite me.
I dragged my feet towards the closet and pulled open the door. Myra was already rushing towards the gowns, browsing each one and feeling them in between her fingers. The surprising thing about her was she did not stay in the mansion.
According to Kira most of them prefer to stay alone than in the close confined mansion. But they had to be on the other side of the bridge, closer to the Hall. I can never understand why anyone would want that. The screams alone were so deafening but they must be used to it by now.
Just like humans, demons loved to be a show-off. They had a class divide between them, the upper, middle and lower. It was no different than the human system, only that upper demons could also be punished. Only if humans had that decency.
Myra cleared her throat as if to get my attention, "What piece have you decided on Miss Talia?"
I nervously shook my head, "Actually I didn't decide on anything"
It was a shame that I could not decide on anything. They were so many of them and I did not want to pick. Besides my mind was still occupied with those thoughts from the dream. It felt so real that I had to check my neck for hickeys.
Myra pressed her lips tight and glanced back at the closet. I felt bad for her because she had to deal with me.
"So which one do you like better? This is lace one, the other is silk"
I blinked my eyes at her hands. How was holding two of the heavy gowns just like that? My eyes narrowed at both of the gowns. They looked pretty that it was confusing to choose between them.
I sighed, "I can't choose. Please can you just decide for me?"
Myra nodded her head. She stared at both of the clothing pieces, holding them for a while and inspecting them by smoothening her fingers over them. I thought that she was going to cast some sort of spell on them to automatically make a decision.
"The pink satin would look great on you Miss Talia. It's darker so there won't be any stain"
I made a humming sound, staring at the clothing before pulling it from her hand.
"Thank you. I'll go get ready now"

By the time I stepped down, I could hear the faint sound of music. I could recognise that sound. It was Bach. With a giddy smile on my face, I hurried down the stairs with Myra in tow.
Lukas was standing at the edge of the stairs as if he was waiting for me. When he forwarded his hand towards me I blushed, suddenly remembering the dream I had. My cheeks felt hot as he clasped my hand in his and walked me towards the table.
I looked over my shoulder towards the grand piano at the corner of the dining room. A person clad in a tuxedo was playing it. He must be a skilled demon to play something so powerful.
I glanced back towards the table. Lauren waved at me childishly while Dean rolled his eyes at her. My eyes fell on the stranger in front of Lauren. He must be Leo. When we stepped closer they all stood, waiting for Lukas to address them.
"Thank you, everyone, for joining me and my mate for this dinner" Lukas cleared his throat and my eyes widened in surprise. Did he call me his mate? What does that mean? I need to talk to him because Kira said the same thing while we wear in Lauren's room.
He pulled the seat for me and I narrowed my eyes in a suspicious manner. Since when did he become a gentleman? I thanked him as I sat on the chair beside him.
The table was huge for five of them. My head felt dizzy just staring at all the different kinds of salad on the table. A wine glass was placed beside every plate which was squeaky clean. You can see your reflection in that kind of clean. I was too scared to touch anything because everything looked expensive.
How did they manage to arrange everything in such a short span of time? They must have been working non-stop to put something so elegant like this. I thought.
"Leo..." Lukas started as he stared back at his friend. I lifted my head up, staring at the stranger. He was attractive not like Lukas but still had a charm. and here I was thinking that demons were supposed to be ugly.
"This is my mate and mother of my child, Talia." Leo smiled in my direction. Wow. Demons can smile. Judging from the faces of Dean and Lukas it was difficult to predict anything about demons. They both carried themself with a stoic expression on their faces.
"And Talia..." His eyes dug into my skin. A shiver ran down my spine at the way my name rolled out of his lips.
"This is my best friend, Leo. He will be staying in this mansion for a few days"
Oh. I had no idea that Lukas had a best friend.
"You are saying that as if you don't like it, Lukas!" Leo chuckled, picking up his napkin. She followed suit, noticing that everyone had already tucked the napkin.
Lukas shrugged, "Glad you understand me"
Leo shook his head, staring at me, "I'm sorry you have to deal with this daily"
I bit back my smile. I already liked Leo. He was honest about Lukas and unlike others didn't purr at everything Demon King said.
"Fate" I shrugged, resting back as the chicken was served on the plate. My mouth watered at the smell.
Leo laughed, agreeing with me while Lukas grumbled.
"You both know that I can hear you, right?"
"And what about it?" Leo challenged, digging into his steak. He was the only one who skipped appetisers. Then again demons don't actually need food.
Lukas gritted his teeth, "Oh nothing just reminding you"
The server bought back the bottle of wine. I stared hesitantly at the glass because I had no idea if I should drink. My lips rolled in between my teeth as the server inched towards me.
"Don't" Lukas voice jerked me back to reality.
I blinked his eyes at him as he glared at the server, a glint in his eyes.
"She's pregnant so bring her sparkling cider or something else. No alcoholic drinks are allowed"
My breath hitched in my throat because I was not expecting him to pay attention or know anything about pregnancy. After all, I thought that this was just an heir to his throne and not someone he cared about.
Lauren nudged at me and pointed at the chicken, "Is it good?"
I noticed that she did not touch anything on her plate. My eyes shifted towards Lukas who was saying something to Leo.
"You don't like chicken?"
Lauren shook her head, "I do but I don't like coriander"
I stared at the green chicken pieces. She should have said something earlier while they were serving.
"Don't eat it then" I shrugged
Leo exhaled as he stared behind me, his eyes narrowed, "Who is this guy? You should have at least put something with lyrics. It's boring"
"It's art" Lukas mumbled softly, wiping his mouth with the napkin. He surely had the manners of royals for someone who is supposed to be the devil. I did not know anything about his previous life but maybe he was somehow connected to the family of royals.
"That shit?!"
Lukas scoffed, "It's Bach. Too sophisticated for people like you to understand"
"Yeah sure. I think you are just making things up"
Lukas shook his head, "I am not. This is one of Bach's famous composition, a collab with Lang or something. I can't remember the name"
I cleared my throat, "Lang Lang. It's called The Well-Tempered Clavier."
Lukas stared at me, his mouth parted in shock. When I was younger I had a dream of making it big in the music industry. It was silly but my mother entertained the thought and made me join piano classes.
"You know Bach?!" Lukas exclaimed.
I shyly smiled, "Yeah...I learned a few of his compositions when I was young"
Leo whistled lowly, staring at Lukas, "No wonder she is your mate"
