Chapter 21: Chapter 21

Leo was waiting in the red room. I was actually surprised that he remembered he had other duties than to wander on earth for his love, Anna. Sometimes I felt utter pity for him because he truly deserved to be happy. After he told me about his life story I was overwhelmed with sadness. He lost his life on the day of his marriage which left everyone around him with grief and sorrow.

Even after he became a demon with immense powers it was clear that he was not satisfied. There was no way he could go back to his life because everything was changed. His family was up in heaven along with his bride. He had no chance of meeting them again.

But ever since he saw Anna, the woman he has been in love with his entire existence changed. He started to be his cheerful self again and so I never asked him to stop visiting earth. That was the source of his happiness and being his friend I had to make him happy.

He was obliged to visit Hell at least four times in a month. As he was a senior demon I could not say anything to that condition. He wanted no responsibility from the hell but it was not possible. I had to pull some strange but I was finally able to grant him that wish. The only thing he had to do was look after the beginners on earth and make sure they don't cause any trouble. It is difficult than it sounds.

"Hello, my dear friend!" I pushed the door of the red room. Leo was already helping himself to drink. He looked over his shoulder as I closed the door behind me.

The entire day had been a little mulish. Talia was upset with me as always so she was hiding with Lauren. As if she could hide without me finding out about it. Kira took her meals to the room and it made me feel like we were back to square one. Why did she have to be so difficult? It's like she cannot understand the concept of letting go. Her friends were better off without knowing anything. Including them or letting them know about her would cause even more trouble than we could handle.

In spite of that, I asked Dean to get a brand new phone from Earth. The latest one so that she think about forgiving me.

Leo grumbled, "Hello"

"What's with that tone?" I asked perching on the chair. My body instantly felt at ease.

He handed me my drink and slumped on the couch in front of her. It was very unusual of him to show up without notice. His notice being spamming me with WhatsApp messages. Ridiculous.

Yes, demons used phones. It's not as shocking as it should be. The good thing about being a demon was learning. As there are no needs to satisfy the body, the power of learning is intensified. Most of the demons were familiar with technology because the angels used them as well. In the beginning, it was found in heaven according to the rumours but they learned to use it as to keep up with the trends.

The thought made us all laugh and sometimes we recall it and laugh in the group chat. Group chat of all the Demons from various religions. We mostly bond over the punishments and stupidity of humans. The length humans go to commit crimes and escape from punishment makes a good Sunday chat.

"It's nothing"

"Doesn't look like nothing" I eyed him carefully. He had dark circles under his eyes and his cheeks looked hollowed.

"Leo?"

He sighed, "Anna...she's divorcing her husband"

"What?" I narrowed my eyes together. Leo has been her husband as far as I knew because he was always playing that part and also possessed her husband's body. It still amazes me that he did not take full control of the body. Leo sometimes slips away, mostly to visit Hell and let her husband's soul come back to life.

Leo rubbed his face, leaning back on the couch, "She said that he is a different person most of the times and it's confusing her. I don't know what to do"

I sighed. How did he think that it was going to end well for him? Not to say that I told him so but I exactly told him that it won't work out in his way. Anyone would be suspicious if he keeps on leaving and returning.

"What are you going to do now?"

He raised his head, down the entire content of the whiskey before wiping his mouth, "I don't want to confuse her anymore or cause any kind of fight so I think it's better if I stay away for few days"

I hummed, "Alright that may work. You can stay here for a few days. I'm sure you miss Hell"

Leo chuckled, shaking his head, "Yeah right! You don't have to make jokes to cheer me up"

I gave him a flat look, "That was not a joke"

He blinked, "Too bad cause it was funny"

I shook my head and took a sip of my drink. It was useless arguing with him. At least when he was in one of those moods.

"What about those twinkies?"

My teeth gritted at the mention of those fairies. They were cruel and downright vindictive when they wanted to be. It was annoying that somehow they had the upper hand in this situation and are the only one we can rely for help.

"Don't even remind me of those"

Leo wriggled his eyebrows, "Looks like they got under your skin again"

Leo did not know the entire story. I told him that the girl I slept with was pregnant to which his reaction was sending me shocking gifs for an entire hour. That's why omitted half of the story because my phone could not take any more buzzing.

"They do that every time" I grind my teeth together. Based on the limited interactions I had with those twinkies I could say they were truly annoying.

"Godly creatures huh?!"

He stepped up to refill his glass and I laid back. It was not like he could get drunk on the alcohol so I had no reason to stop him.

"Yeah, you can't avoid them" I sighed.

They are everywhere. Literally. Few of the angels are on earth in the disguise of normal people so that they could sense a demonic activity and try to stop it. They are not as fond of humans as demons are so they often switch their duties. Can't stand being in the company of humans for a long time.

"True that" Leo exclaimed while stumbling towards the couch again. This time however he had a bottle in his hand and I was sure that he was actually drinking to forget his misery.

"Leo maybe you should stop"

He scoffed, "Oh come on! It's not like I am going to be drunk. This is barely gonna do anything"

I stayed quiet and leaned back. There was a buzzing outside the red room and I could hear Dean's footsteps approaching the room. Leo sat up straight. After all, reputation was everything.

At the sound of the knock, I stared at Leo who was now well settled in the couch. I signalled Dean to enter inside.

"My King" He bowed down before turning to nod at Leo. They were kind of friends which was strange to me since they did not have anything in common.

"What is it?"

He handed me a letter. I stared at the golden envelope and flicked it on the table. My hands were clammy from holding the glass and also I had no desire to read anything.

"Who sent it?"

"Lord Yama"

I inhaled sharply at that. Lord Yama was the demon of Hindu mythology. According to their religion, he was the guardian of naarak (known as hell). During one of the Balls, we hit it off and managed to know each other. Sometimes he had the reputation of being overdramatic and annoy people around him.

Leo chuckled quickly covering it up with a laugh. He knew about the love-hate relationship I shared with Yama.

"What did he want?"

Dean cleared his throat, "My lord he wants to visit Hell"

I blinked a few times hoping that Dean would laugh and call it a joke. Dean never did that but I was hoping he would do it this time. There was no way I was ready to have some guest when I was already dealing with my own problems and Talia.

"How many days until he visits?" I asked, running a hand down my face.

"Four days from today"

That's so close! I sighed, eyes wide. Dean retreated back and I stared at the door for a few seconds.

"You're dead, Lukas." Leo chuckled.

"But, my dear..." I purred, a cynical smirk on my face to which Leo looked alarmed.

"You're going to stay here for a few days so good luck with looking after our guest"
