Chapter 14: Chapter 14

/Lukas POV/

"Thanks again Lukas" She smiled, her eyes twinkling. For a flash second, they seemed familiar. Too familiar but I shook my head. I must be imagining things again. She seemed out of place and I had never seen her in the club before so there is no way for us to have met.

"It is alright" I grind my teeth together, my eyes into slits as I tried to find that creep. How dare he try to do something like that? Humans are not aware that the actions like these are the reason they wind up in hell. And then they cry and regret while being tortured. Silly creatures really. They commit sin and expect not to be punished for that.

"I am so sorry for the boyfriend thing. I just thought that he would back off after hearing that"

There were much worse ways to handle the situation. I could have easily him and take him down but that's something I was avoiding to do in the club full of people. Not like I would lose my control but it did not seem like the risk worth taking.

"You don't have to be..."

"Glad to know?" I grinned, my lips stretched in a wide smile. Most of the girls fall for that. It's actually sad how they don't realise that I'm some demon who would leave the very next day. They don't seem to mind that as they look for the exact same thing. Not having to commit to someone.

Shakespeare would roll in his grave if he thought that this was the condition of the modern people. No one cares about love anymore. It was just a quick fulfilment of desires. The guy was in heaven though or we would be having conversations by now.

Talia moved her eyes around as if she was searching for someone. But she said she came with only two friends and according to her they were dancing on the floor. Like typical horny couples.

"Are you trying to find someone?" I questioned, moving closer as she did not hear my question. As I repeated the question she shook her head, her cheeks flushed.

"I'm sorry..."

Her voice was so soft. Almost angelic. I grimaced at the word. It held another meaning to me. As she shifted in her seat I cleared my throat, "I can leave if you want"

Please say no. Please say no. I thought while staring at her. There was just something about her that I could not pinpoint. Another weird thing was I could not find out what she was thinking. It was very unusual for someone who can read minds.

There was a possibility that she may be a creature and not a human. Maybe that's why I could not read anything that going on in her mind. Usually, I have a good grip on reading the supernaturals because most of them have greed and hunger on their minds. They are very predictable like that. When it comes to humans, all they think about are four things, money, sex, lust and food.

Talia, however, did not have anything on her mind which was strange. I doubted myself that maybe it was me. Somehow I might have lost the ability to read others minds on the way down from hell.

She made a noise, "No...no. Please don't leave"

I smirked, pulling the barstool closer to her and slumping down. My eyes automatically shifted towards her drink and noticed that she had barely drunk it.

"Are you with someone?" She squeaked, her voice loud and flustered.

"Do you see me with someone?"

She shook her head, eyes narrowing around me like she was trying to figure out. Her nose scrunched adorably. There was seriously something wrong with me if I was using adorable to describe her. I don't find humans adorable. Never. They are a waste of spaces we are designed to punish.

"Oh"

"Actually I am here for some business"

She raised her eyebrows, "Meeting?"

Well not meeting per se because it was more of threatening and less of meeting. I could not reveal that to though so I nodded my head, shrugging.

"Kind of. Don't worry it won't start for a while"

She blushed, messing around with her drink again. Somehow I got a feeling that she was not really enjoying her drink.

"Do you want to try something new?"

"Huh?"

I motioned towards her glass, "I can see that you don't like your drink so maybe you can try something new"

She giggled, raising her glass towards me, "I don't like this. Mira ordered it for me"

With my two fingers, I called the bartender towards us. He had seen me several times in the club to easily inch towards me. I could easily read his thoughts and desires. Money. That's what we wanted. It meant that I was not the problem but Talia was.

My eyes wandered at the menu of drinks and I sighed. They were seriously underpriced. What was he doing with the business? I thought bitterly.

"Keep the shots coming"

Talia's eyes widened, "S-Shots?"

"You never tried before?" I snorted, my tone high. She looked like a college girl and for someone her age, she should know this by now. At least that's what I thought most of the college girls do. Party all night. The ones I've met did that and worse. Besides taking shots are like the basic learning to drinking.

Her cheeks tinted at that and she looked at her heels. I clenched my eyes tightly, feeling angry at myself for making her feel doubt and embarrassment. She didn't deserve that.

"Sorry" I mumbled

She shook her head, "Don't be. I am just more of a wine girl"

"Really?"

"Yeah. You have to blame Mira's mother for that. She has this incredible collection of wine in her cellar downstairs. We broke into it when we were in high school. That's the first time I had wine and it was Chateau Bourgneuf, not very expensive fortunately but we got grounded for sneaking into the cellar"

There was a fond smile on her face as if she was recalling the incident.

"Wow, you two were really handful, huh?"

She laughed, staring at the dancefloor. Mira must be the same friend then.

"We were. Everyone was surprised at how well we fit together and got away with everything" She giggled.

The bartender placed two shots on the table. Talia looked hesitant at them, rolling her lips in between her teeth. It was not some poison. I thought rolling my eyes.

"It's fine. You'll feel the burn in your throat and stomach. Drinking water after that helps."

She was still staring at the glasses.

"I can go first if that's what you want"

She shook her head, "Can we do it together?"

"Sure" I raised the glass and waited for her to follow my lead. We clinked the glasses together and she took a deep breath.

I licked my lips before downing the entire shot of liquid. My eyes rolled back as it hit my throat and burning sensation thrummed through my body. It vanished before I could savour it though. That's the downfall of being a demon. You can never be intoxicated or feel the rush of alcohol in your blood.

I turned to peek at Talia and noticed that she had her face scrunched, still gripping the glass. Only that it was empty. It meant that she downed the liquid.

"So what do you think?"

She laughed, pushing the glass on the table, "I feel like doing one more"

"That's my girl!" I yelled while asking for another round to the bartender.

"My King?" A voice pulled me out of the thoughts and I jolted, staring at the person on the door. Blinking my eyes I realised that I was in the red room. The books were strewn on the table in front of me. I must have fallen asleep while reading them. Most of them were in Hebrew so that should explain it.

Rubbing my eyes I blinked at the help, standing at the entrance. My jaw clenched because she pulled me out of the memory I was reliving. Talia and I had shared an incredible night, something no matter what I always replayed it in my mind. I just couldn't stop thinking about it for some reason. There has to be a reasonable explanation for that, right? That's why I was trying to read the ancient myths about memory and what triggers them and how they work. It didn't prove to be of much help.

"What is it?" I grunted, sitting up in my seat, leaning my head back.

"The fairies are here"

I sat right up and blinked at her, several times, "What?"

They cannot be here. Talia had enough shocks for the day.

"Yes my lord. They have requested your presence in the hall"

I gulped, standing up and tightening my hands around the lapels of my coat, "Did you ask them what they want?"

"The fairies said that they are here to talk with Miss Talia"
