Chapter 41: Chapter 41

Muhsin ran his hand through his close cropped hair three times in a quick succession and fixed Amira in a stare that could have frozen the panic. He snarled more than spoke. “Did you or did you not do it? Answer me right now because I won't repeat myself. The next thing you’ll feel is a painful smack on your face, just test me and see.”

“I did it, so what? You can't do anything about it. You really believe that I will allow that two timing idiot have your first child? So what if I aborted her child? What’s the worse you can do?” She sneered at him then laughed only adding fuel to his wrath.

He glared at her then spat out, “HOW DARE YOU?” He clamoured, almost strangling her.

“You started it! Who asked you to marry her at the first place? After I have warned you not you, you still went ahead and did it! I advice you, drop this bull crap and let things go back to the way it used to be.”

“So it’s all true what your friend told me? You did it?” Amira shrugged her shoulders off, not caring because she knew he can't do anything. “I did it! Do your worse, let me see....”

Their heated quarrel continues. It was definitely a war of words and who can hurt the other one worse. Both of them at each others throats like savage hungry dogs fighting over dominance. “Okay that’s it!” He thundered, making her to go mute. “Pack your things and leave my house, I have divorced you.” With that only, he stormed out of the house.

Her mind went blank and her eyes wide as she stared at him leave her there standing. Her legs shook, failing her. She quickly plop on the bed as she registered what had happened just to her. She got divorced. He has really divorced her. He really did that to her.

She looked around her room, unable to move her legs let alone to start packing. She felt powerless. She let out a loud cry, startling the baby but she didn't care. She had more things to worry than just Adila.

Amira cried as if her brain was being shredded from the inside. Emotional pain flowed out of her every pore. She cried like it was her last day alive. She grabbed onto the bed sheets so that her silent shaking would not cause her to fall. From her eyes came thicker of tears than she had ever cried.

She scrambled up and started walking about as she thought of many ways to revenge on Karima, she wasn't going to let her go that easy. She picked up adila, together with her car keys and left to karima’s apartment.

She found herself standing in front of the gate, knocking as hard as she could. The gateman hurriedly opened as he wondered who it might be. “Get out of my way,” she thundered, pushing him aside. “If you're looking for madam, she has already packed her things and left the house an hour ago.” Amira halted, slowly turning to look at the gateman.

“Please, I don’t want any trouble, since the person you’re looking for is not here, kindly go and look else where.” He turned his head away to avoid her dead looks.

Placing her arms on her head, she blustered at the top of her voice as she cursed karima. She hurriedly went back to her car and picked up her phone to call her but the number never went through. Another big quandary for amira.

He looked around the neighborhood as he nervously waited for her to come out. His heart twisted and sunk with nerves when she sauntered out of the house. He felt more anxious when she shot him a hateful glare. His breaths came in sharp pants and he tried to gain control, but nothing was working. It hurts. It hurt him a lot to see her that way; devastated and pale. And now, he vowed to make things right between them, no matter what it takes. He would make any effort to make things right with her.

Slowly, the panic and anxiety attack flowed away, and yet he still shook. His eyes closed and aimed towards her irked face, slowly opened. Trepidation swelled through him as he slowly took a deep breath. “Dalia...”

“What? What do you want from me? Why are you here?” She cuts him off before he could start. “Dalia, please just listen...”

“Listen to what? What do you have to say to me other than divorce me?”

“You know I can never do that because I love you... please just listen...”

“Don’t you ever say that to me because you’re lying. You’re a liar.” She clamoured at him but he wasn't ready to give up. “Dalia, my wife, I am really sorry is what I want to say to you. Without you nothing is pleasant, everything is so blue. I don’t know what happened that day. But, trust me I really don’t have any excuse for how I accused you and how I treated you afterwards. It is highly unacceptable. Because of me, you had to take so much pain. Believe me, for me this isn't any gain. This happened because it was destiny. But, I want to ask for forgiveness from you. Without you I really can't do anything. Without you I feel hassled all the time. I was so proud to call you mine. So, please forgive me and come home with me!”

Dalia laughed heartily. The audacity he has after what he has done to her. After treating her like a slave and shattering her fragile heart. “Oh so now you have found out the truth and you decided to crawl back here and lure me into falling into your dead trap again? No, that will not happen again. Kindly go back to your precious wife, the love of your life. And get this in your head; I don’t want you anymore because I don’t see anything worth living with you since you don’t trust me and you don’t know what I am capable of doing.”

“Please, dalia, my wife, I am on knees. I’m sorry I let you down. It hurts that I did. I am really sorry, I know you are angry with me. Trust me; I did not do this intentionally. The situations were such that it all happened, its all my fault so please forgive me and bring back the lost cheer.”

“You did not do it intentionally....” She paused and sniffed, blinking back the tears. “No.... I can't...” She cast her gaze onto the ground and her eyes darkened. She glanced back up at muhsin. “Leave... please.” Her voice sounded more pained than anything. She slowly turned and left him there on his knees before her tears could give her away.

And so they continued that way. He went there everyday not caring how far it was. Days passed without any achievement, things got worse for him. His father urging him to take amira back as Dalia demanded to be free from him.

He wished, the regret would fade. And all the mistakes he has made would drain away. Like the rain, it will go away. he stood on the brick of something he couldn't describe. The weight of everything seemed to press down on his shoulders and he struggled to take even a step forward. It was too much. All of it. He couldn't do it without dalia but somehow, he kept moving. But every step cost him. The darkness grew darker; the pain grew sharper; all of it seemed to only grow in strength and all he began to wonder if things could ever get better.

Sometimes he wondered if that smile- the horribly fake smile- is ever seen through. If someone ever notices that sad, broken look in his eyes that he sees in the mirror.

Yusuf knocks before he sauntered into the room he knew muhsin has been lying in. He sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose when he found him at the same spot the last time he checked up on him. “Look, lying around won't solve your problems. Aunty has been calling looking for you and to be honest I am tired of lying to her. You have to face reality, muhsin. You aren't handling any of this the right way. You didn't bother to tell our parents what’s going on and you refuse to do the right thing.”

Muhsin stared at him as he continued to rant. He sighed, closing his eyes as he turned his back on Yusuf. “Close the door when you're done.” He heard muhsin utter. Yusuf peered at him in awe before shaking his head and leaving the room. For the past few weeks, muhsin has been hiding at Yusuf’s place, doing nothing but lie down all day and think of Dalia.

Yusuf steps out of the house as he thought of the best way to convince dalia to come back. He really felt sorry for his brother. He has been in his shoes once, to love something, to want something but you can't get it.

A while later, Yusuf stood in front of the house daddy’s driver directed him to. He looked around before walking towards the door and knocked on it. He knocked again before finally, the door sways open and she appeared. Standing before him. Eyes directly in his.

Her eyes spoke to him; the deadliest story, a burden of trust in true loves mourning. When two hearts meet, a beating vessel would rhyme. A chime for two at loves first time. A pump that quickens, a panic arise. How cruel can love be when at first sight?

“Can I help you?” Amrah broke the tense silence and staring contest. He blinked and cleared his throat, feeling embarrassed. He scratched the back of his head, smiling sheepishly. “Yes, please is this dalia’s house, right? I'm her husband’s cousin, Yusuf.” Amrah nodded her head as she scanned him from head to toe. “I’ll tell her you’re here.” She closed the door.

He let out a sigh of relief feeling his heart beat racing. Was that how love at first sight feels like?

A short moment later, dalia came out. Giving him a puzzled look, she stood inches away from him, waiting to hear what he has to say. “Good evening,” she muttered, staring at him sternly. “How have you been? It’s been long..”

“Please, if he was the one that sent you, tell him I said that I am still waiting for my divorce letter.” Yusuf exhaled after she has spoken. He observed, dalia was really stubborn. “No, he didn't send me here. He doesn't even know I am here. I know what he did was unacceptable. He hurt you, a lot but he has realized that and learned his lesson. Please forgive him. You have punished him enough.”

“I didn't expect you to be an airhead like him. I respect you a lot and I don’t want that to change. It’s high time he realizes that I don’t love him anymore....”

“You really think I would believe you don’t love him? And don't forget; be merciful to others and you will receive mercy. Forgive others and Allah will forgive you.”

Dalia opened her mouth to speak but she couldn't argue anymore. She couldn't go against that. And what he said was right. She stared at him for a long time before taking a deep breath. Even if she was really going back, which she wasn't, at least he has to feel the pain he put her through. He has to suffer the same way she did. She cleared her throat as she folded her arms across her chest.

“I tell him I'm pregnant, with his child.” And she breezed away, leaving him in awe.
