Chapter 39: Chapter 39
When we arrive back at the Hotel we quickly make our way up to our suite and wrap all the presents up piling them into a big box. We take a step back and stare at the large box.
“I think we may have gone a little crazy today.” Chrissy laughs.
“Tell me about it.” I laugh with her.
“How are we meant to get this to Robert?” Chrissy sobers from her laugh and looks at me.
“I have no idea… do you think we can call someone up to help us?”
“It’s worth a try.” She says as she walks to the phone sitting on the kitchen countertop.
“Hi, I’m just wondering if it’s possible to send a young, fit man up to our room to carry a box full of presents downstairs.” She stands there anxiously biting her fingernail.
“Great, thank you so much… Ummmm.. he couldn’t come up now by any chance? It’s just that we need to pass this onto someone special before they leave the building…Oh, you are too much, thank you!” She hangs up and sticks both thumbs up with a large satisfied grin on her face.
“He should be here shortly.” She says as she comes back over and stands next to me.
“So I heard. I think the whole floor heard too.” I raise a brow looking at her.
“You think only one guy is capable of carrying this box?”
“He should be fine, if not we can always take a few off the top and carry them ourselves.”
“Okay.” I shrug lazily.
I re-read Lucas text again from earlier. I'll call him tomorrow and agree to meet up with him when we return. I look back at the box and silently think...
Happy 6th Birthday Rosalia.
Knock, knock, knock…
“That was quick,” Chrissy says as she rushes to answer the door.
A young man with broad shoulders greets us and Chrissy ushers him in. She stands there feeling his biceps for approval as she leads him to the large box.
“I think you’ll manage.” She smiles at him, stepping away.
“I think so too.” He replies.
His voice is ultra-deep and husky as he looks at Chrissy. He plants a dazzling grin on his face. I'm thinking he's not on the same level as Chrissy. She's talking about the box and he's talking about managing her. I stand there laughing at the sucker...
“I’m Chrissy and she’s Nessa.” Chrissy introduces us.
“Jaxon, but you can call me Jax.” He says as he squats down wrapping his well-toned arms around the box getting a good grip.
“Well come on then.” She says to me as he lifts the box.
We let him walk out first after telling him we want it taken down to the restaurant area. That way it’s easier for us to just follow him and enjoy the view. We walk to the set of elevators and wait for the next available lift when it arrives and we step into the vacant car.
“It’s a bit early to be playing Santa at this time of the year is it not?” Jax asks curiously stretching his neck to look over the box.
“It sure is, that’s why that box there is for one lucky birthday girl today,” I answer him with a smile.
“Lucky girl alright.” He says before he lets out a low whistle.
“You know it’s my birthday in a few days if you’re interested to know.” He smiles as he wags his eyebrows.
“Nice try, but you will have to do better than that Jax. Surely.” Chrissy laughs at him.
The car doors open and we walk out into an open area just out front of the restaurant.
“You can gently put the box down on the wooden park seat over there.”
I point to the seat that’s against the wall below a large painting. Jax walks over and puts the box down with extra care.
“Thank you,” I say to him.
“No biggie.” He grins. “
"I will see you, ladies, around… I hope.” He slowly walks back towards the elevators keeping his eyes on us.
“If you’re in luck.” Chrissy laughs folding her arms and starts tapping her foot.
“But I wouldn’t hold my breath.”
I wink at him and walk to the hostess that’s standing at the small booth in front of the restaurant.
“Hi, I’m looking for Robert. He said I could find him here before his shift ends.”
“Sure, one moment.” The lady quietly speaks into her Walkie Talkie wristwatch telling Robert to come to the front.
“He should be out shortly from the back.”
She kindly tells me before showing a group of people behind me to a table inside. I walk back over to Chrissy and wait patiently for Robert to make an appearance.
“Nessa.” He calls out to me in his small and fragile voice.
“Robert, hi!”
I can’t help but smile as I walk over to him and hug him gently. I loop my arm into his and lead him over to Chrissy.
“Robert, this is Chrissy and Chrissy this is Robert.” I let go of his arm as Chrissy leans in to hug him.
“I hope you don’t mind but I also wanted to buy little Ms Aroha a birthday gift today too,” Chrissy says as she shows him the box.
“Oh, my lord.” That is all he manages to say and places his shaking hand over his mouth.
“We kind of went a bit crazy.” I apologize to him.
“Yes, I can see that dear.” He blinks rapidly taking in the view of the box.
“We just came down to give you this and to wish you a good evening with your Moko and Whanau.” I smile helplessly at him.
Moko (Mokopuna) is Maori for grandchild and Whanau for Family.
“Thank you, thank you so much. You will never know how much this means to me, my child.” He thanks us with tears threatening to escape down his face.
“I feel the same, Robert. No thanks are required. This has helped me in more ways than I can ever explain. So really I should be thanking you for letting me… A stranger, buy your Moko a birthday gift.” I wipe the run-away tear from my eye and take in a deep breath and try not to let my emotions get the best of me.
“Have a great night Robert.” Chrissy leans in and kisses him gently on the cheek.
“I think I'll be able to do that tonight.” He nods smiling.
I lean in and kiss him on the cheek too and tell him to enjoy the rest of his week. Chrissy and I leave the Hotel walking across the road to order us some gourmet pizza and pick up a few bottles of wine. After the pizza is ready we take it back to our room and get changed into some yoga pants and a loose top ready to stuff our face.
I grab two glasses out of the cupboard in the kitchen. There are no wine glasses. I take them into the living and take a seat on the floor flipping the pizza box open. The smell hits you like a heatwave nearly knocking you off balance. It smells so fricking amazing I can’t wait to dig.
“Let’s catch up on some Suits.” Chrissy sits beside me with the T.V remote in her hand.
“Yes, please… I need Some Harvey Spector in my life right now.
"I wish I was the female version of him. Not a care in the world, so… much confidence that naturally oozes from my pores making me untouchable.” I open a bottle of wine and pour us a glass.
“And alone.” Chrissy titters as she takes the glass from my hand.
“At least I’d be feared and successful where it all counts.” I take a sip of my wine, enjoying the fruity fizz as it slides down my throat.
“And I’d be your Donna. Because we both know I'm just as amazing as she is.”
“I was thinking more along the lines of Mike Ross for you.” I burst out laughing when a look of disgust washes over her face.
“No way! I am not your sidekick. Besides you would never catch me riding a pushbike to work in cheap attire.”
“But he’s a genius.” I contest.
“Genius or not. I am no Mike Ross, I am either Donna or Jessica.” She says taking a large bite out of her pizza slice.
“You're Donna, Jessica is too much of a Bitch to be you. She may be a powerful woman but she is no Donna.” I raise my glass. “To Harvey and Donna,” I say.
“Harvey and Donna.” Chrissy chimes as we clink our glasses and take a sip.
“Just the one glass for you.” She sternly says to me.
“Yes, I know.” I take another sip savouring the flavour.
We watch season three to season five, hours have passed with intense anticipation and tears of joy. There’s nothing more pleasing than watching two men take on the world using the power of the justice system to its full potential. Even if they had to act shady to get the job done.
Meh... No one is perfect.
I slowly remove myself from the carpeted floor to stand up regretting that I hadn’t moved to the sofa. It definitely would have been easier on my body getting up than it is now. I stand and slowly stretch my aching limbs, twisting my back left to right and reaching for the stars with my arms.
I slowly bend down and pick up the empty pizza box, packets of MnM’s and the two empty bottles of wine that Chrissy had managed to polish off on her own. I take them to the kitchen and dispose of them. Chrissy walks in after switching the t.v off and places the two glasses in the sink. We both lazily stroll to the bathroom and wash up, brushing our teeth and combing our hair.
“What time do you wanna leave for Auckland?” Chrissy asks me.
“As soon as we finish packing up and checking out. It’s what..” I look into the room at the clock on the wall. “Three in the damn morning.” I groan out.
“I don’t regret this night whatsoever. Harvey has me all like...” She shimmies her body as her hands slide down her stomach.
“I need to find me a lawyer like that.”
She says and we both break out into a fit of laughter. We walk out of the bathroom and slide into bed groaning with appreciation, the mattress feels like heaven against our backs. I guess money can buy you a bit of happiness. I think to myself. We switch our bedside lights off and say good-night to each other before we fall into a deep slumber.
