Chapter 20: Chapter 20

Olivia's pov:

I spent almost the entire day asleep in my room as it was a lazy day. The entire trip left me drained out of energy so that nap was much needed. And the comforts of my room really helped too! I felt so peaceful for once since a very long time.

As soon as the clock struck two in the morning, my phone started vibrating and blasting the ringtone right in my face as it was kept on the nightstand right next to my bed. I covered my ears from the loud sound and sat myself on the edge of the bed, still feeling a bit sleepy.

"Ugh, who is calling me at this time?" I thought to myself as if I did not know time zones existed.

I woke up finally with a heavy head and started reaching out for my phone with my eyes still shut. After attempts at grabbing the air and not the phone, I finally opened my eyes and retrieved my phone from the stand.

"Hello. Who is this?" I greeted and asked in a very sleepy voice. It sounded as if I have not slept in ages. Well, it really did feel like that though.

I waited for a couple of seconds, but I did not get a response from the other end of the line. All I could hear was some heavy breathing.

I got alarmed and scared at the thought that some creep might have called me. Being alone in my room at two am further contributed to my fear. Who was this creep? What was going on? I was not in the mood to deal with any more problems.

"I'm hanging up!" I declared, trying to get away from the weird creepy call! I wanted to hang up so bad.

However, before I would press the red button on my phone, almost immediately I heard "No, wait!" in a very odd but familiar voice.

"Olivia!" I heard the unknown caller say thereafter. How did this person know my name? It felt even more strange than before.

Once I was able to recollect whose voice was this, it then struck me that this voice belonged to none other than Inspector Gaikwad! Why did he call me? I wondered.

I jumped out of my seat which was technically my bed, but you get my point!

I pushed the phone close to my ears to get a hold of every single information that Inspector Gaikwad had to give to me.

"I've....be-been sh-sh-shot!" I heard him stutter and that was when my soul left my body! My heart began pounding.

Someone had shot him. I could not believe what I just heard from my own ears. I must be in some kind of nightmare. Violence was something I could absolutely not digest. It affected me a lot.

Tears dripped down my face as Inspector Gaikwad was like family and if I lose him, I will lose not only him but also any lead to finding my family's murderer! I could not let that happen! It should not happen!

"Wait! No! Nothing will happen to you! Let me call for help! You just tell me where you are." I panickily said in attempts to help him.

"Don't worry! I-l cal-called the emergency s-services!" I heard him struggle to say!

I got a bit relieved to hear that, but it was not enough to make me feel great. The biggest question that I had was who on earth shot him! And why?

This guy has helped me so much and it's because of me that he is in this situation. I could not bear to lose another loved one. I just could not!

"LA Jewellers," he mentioned with a struggle which left me in utter confusion.

LA Jewellers? This isn't the time to buy jewellery! Why is he talking about? Is he hallucinating?

"Inspector! This is no time to joke around! What are you talking about?" I hastily asked to try and understand what message he is trying to convey.

"T-t-the ring i-i-is from LA Je-jewellers! I-I also t—think that someone in your YouTube gro-group might know something about this!"

After hearing this shocking statement, the line suddenly went silent. It was dead! No one talking or breathing! Just empty silence.

I screamed "Hello" trying to get the inspector to say something but to no avail.

After not hearing anything from the inspector's side, sweat started dropping out from my scalp. I could no longer breathe properly. It felt as if I was having a panic attack. Everything around me looked so blurry and I could not stand on my two feet.

I held my aching chest before falling flat on my bed alone in my room, unconscious.

A few hours later, I felt the harsh sun rays shining bright on my face, focusing on my eyes. It stung my eyes a bit, destroying some of the tiredness within me.

I woke to find myself lying flat on the stone-cold ground of my room instead of the huge queen size bed next to me.

I scratched my head to find out why I was laying in such an awkward position on the ground. Why did I not sleep on the comfortable bed that was provided to me?

With that being said after some time of thinking, everything that happened a few hours ago struck me like a lightning bolt! I remembered all that Inspector Gaikwad told me! I remembered him being shot.

I was taken aback while remembering that he had not said anything towards the end of the call. I was super concerned about him.

I picked up my phone to call him and enquire about his health. And before I could even call him, I was delighted to see that I had received a message from him hours ago that he is doing well and has been admitted in a hospital.

Well, that took a huge burden off my chest. I finally felt my tensed body loosening up. I was finally able to relax myself for the time being. I just hoped that he would be fine soon.

My stomach let out a loud growl and I instantly held it to subside it. I realized that I had not eaten anything for hours as yesterday I had slept for the entire day. The journey really made me forget to eat despite the fact that I was a foodie.

I looked up at the wooden-framed clock that was hung on the wall above the entryway and saw that the timing for breakfast at the buffet was almost ending. My eyes popped. I felt frustrated.

Just thinking of starving for a couple of minutes more drove me crazy and starving until lunch was not something I ever wanted to do. I would probably faint again if I had to do the latter.

So, I immediately got ready by brushing my teeth and my hair and headed to the door to rush out of my room with my nightclothes still on.

My hunger compelled me to do so but honestly, it was a resort so no one would even care about me running around in my night suit.

I dashed out my door and ran as fast as I could in attempt to reach the buffet before it would close down in preparation for lunch services.

I ran past a lot of people who were playing in the pool area and the looks they gave me, portrayed me as some sort of crazy person. I mean I would agree with them as I did look weird with the way I was running.

But my hunger did not allow me to be bothered by those looks. My main objective was just reaching the buffet.

After a few minutes of running, I was finally able to see the buffet area from a small distance.

Without wasting even, a quarter of a second, I ran towards the area, trying to lower my running speed so that I would not bump into people. That particular area had a few staff members walking around.

As I was about to reach the buffet, that was the time I was reminded that luck was never on my side, as usual.

The unfortunate thing that happened was that I ignored the 'wet floor' warning signs in the area, and I slipped and fell due to the wet floor into the arms of a random guy.

We collided and the guy fell flat on his back, while my face was on his stomach.

I felt a sharp pain on my ankle, but I was so embarrassed by the situation that I did not pay any attention to it.

I groaned in pain as I moved my leg to try to get up. It felt as if my ankle was dislocated. The pain was sharp!

As I attempted to get up, I got a good look of the guy's face who fell down with me.

Jack? Oh no...
